Embarrassing reading those comments from West Ham's Academy Director. A total disgrace and farce that a club with our history is made to face a YTS team in competitive fixture.
Amazing that 1500 are actively supporting the inclusion of U21 teams in lower league competition. BRFC supporters maybe but either ignorant or not bothered enough to try and prevent this farce continuing.

Personally I, in the strongest possible sense, disagree with this competition and the idea of pitting Premier League "B" teams against senior lower league clubs. Of course its a free country, and I'm not going to go and castigate those that decide to attend, despite disagreeing with it. One thing I do find a bit strange however, is that do some people really have such a compulsion to watch every single Rovers match at all costs? I mean, the atmosphere at these games alone must be dire, the result of little or no consequence. Do you really have nothing better to do than watch these matches that even the club only give half a s**t about? Apologies if this causes any offence, and massive respect to any Gashead who supports the club week in and week out come rain or shine, I do just think that this competition should be an exception, where non-attendance would hopefully have a more profound benefit to the future of the club than any short term "entertainment". My opinion of course, and I know this debate will rage on and on. Well ive been to watch 3 development matches and i was interested to see how the 4 lads from that group faired tonight against good quality opponents. Regarding attendances, footballs not just about that is it? I mean man utd or even derby county fans would say why bother watching a rovers league game with such a crap crowd wouldnt they following your rules. I also watch shirehampton and very much enjoy it thanks. Are you genuinely not bothered about U23 teams entering lower league competition? Incredible that people are getting behind this trial.

It was a near-faultless team performance according to Academy Director, Terry Westley, after West Ham United’s under-21s beat Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday evening. Despite conceding after just 25 seconds at the Memorial Stadium, West Ham dominated proceedings on a chilly evening in the West-country and fully deserved their 3-1 win. A brace from Toni Martinez – his tenth and eleventh of the season already - either side of a Martin Samuelsen goal secured the points and guaranteed the Hammers’ qualification into the knockout rounds of the competition. To take on League One outfit and win so convincingly was especially pleasing for Westley: “The manner in which we won is extremely satisfying” he said. “We’ve had a hard October, playing Manchester United, Chelsea away, then Manchester City at the weekend and now to finish it off against a League One side, who had a very strong team out today, we took it to them. “After a disastrous start, it just shows the character of this group led by a tremendous captain in Declan Rice and beside him Josh Pask, as centre-halves they really got to grips with what Bristol Rovers threw at us. It was hard at times, having to keep heading balls and clearing it out but when we got it down, we passed them off the pitch. 3-1 could have easily been more than that."
The equaliser came from the penalty spot on 43 minutes after Ben Johnson was brought down inside the box. It was Martinez who stepped forward and confidently drove the ball into the bottom corner to level things up. After the break, West Ham dominated. Pace down the right, left and through the middle from Haksabanovic, Holland and Samuelsen and Martinez respectively put the Pirates’ defence under extreme pressure and it wasn’t long before they cracked: Martin Samuelsen capitalising on some space in the box to fire home from close range. Sometimes you have 'it’s a Martinez show’ or 'it’s a Holland show’, tonight was a really good team performance by everybody. “His second goal was sublime.” Westley exclaimed. “The way he got in between people and he saw the keeper and instantly knew he had to take it in one touch, it was a magnificent finish.” Toni Martinez’s two goals may grab the headlines and Westley was delighted with the Spaniard’s contribution, but was quick to place praise on the whole team effort on this particular night. “Sometimes you have 'it’s a Martinez show’ or 'it’s a Holland show’, tonight was a really good team performance by everybody.” “The challenge for tonight was: ‘you want to go and show you can play in League One or the Championship so you’ve got to show you’re as good if not better than these players’ and we’ll get back on the bus knowing that a lot of our players can play at this level.”The win caps of a fantastic October for the Development Squad, who have faced U23 opposition in Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City before the Checkatrade Trophy battle with League One, Bristol Rovers, on Tuesday. From a possible twelve points, they have taken ten – only a draw against Chelsea, away, in between three hugely impressive victories. “Without a doubt [we’d have taken ten points]” the Academy Director explained. “That’s what this group needs, those type of challenges against the very best players. Saturday, we had four under-18s in the starting line-up, today we had three in Ben Johnson, Conor Coventry and Domingos Quina so we’re young, we’re a very young team in this league and we outplayed them tonight.” This is exactly the trouble with this competition. They beat what was effectively our reserves and now he thinks those players are good enough for league one/championship based on that! I don't think so. Do what the likes of Kane/Alli have done etc and come on loan in proper competitive games if you think you are good enough. Also to say it was hard having to head balls out etc is ridicilous. We had probably about as small and lightweight team as we could have had in midfield and going forward lol! Some test! but would you take their excellent centre forward on loan (Martinez) ? I would have him like a shot to replace a very poor Telford. He made Ryan Sweeney look like a complete novice at times, i do wonder whats happened to Stanley from last year ? Maybe he is starting to show his true level now

Yet another boring attempt by people to criticise other supporters who choose to follow the team. The record is becoming bo9ring now. make up your own minds but don't try to criticise others with your futile reasoning. Crap game anyway which showed yet again what a poor system DC uses . Let players play and they will play. Would take any of West Hams midfield in preference to Sinclair, Broom or Moore. leadbitter was Ok but go9t caught out far too many times in defending technique. Burn is awful and God knows what has happened to Sweeney. The youngsters who appeared did OK but none are ready yet. Imagine my shock that a meaningless match that the club clearly doesn’t care about, where we played a midfield 4 containing Broom, Moore & Russe (no offence to them), was “crap”. Also, let’s hope DC sticks with his “poor system” if it means we continue to overachieve under him, as we have since he arrived.

Genuine question - would you support the inclusion of these U21 teams in the lower leagues? Nope Never If that is the case, then how are you going to play your part in preventing it? The most we can do as fans is avoid the games involving these U21 teams, yet you still chose to attend to "support the club"? If this does lead to U21 teams being brought into the lower leagues then surely you would be helping the club more by not attending?

What ever i do or say will F##k all influence on what the money grabbing Chairpersons of the EFL decide, so i will do the next best thing and support MY FOOTBALL TEAM. If DC/Chairperson/Owner asks us as supports to not attend then i will refrain from giving the club my hard earned Wonga... But you know they will never ever say that because they are at the end of the day not interested in us the supporters, only the amount of money they can screw out of the Premier league....

If this does lead to U21 teams being brought into the lower leagues then surely you would be helping the club more by not attending? I dont wish to be argumentative but here goes. I dont support the introduction of U21 teams into the lower leagues. I went to the game last night and enjoyed the match. Boycotting the game by supporters will have zero effect on whether u21 teams are included in the lower leagues. Its fact that the people in power will do whats the most lucrative for their interests and their interests alone. Boycotting the games only has one effect and thats the revenue of BRFC. Posters talk of democracy, there is no democracy in football, there is not even democracy in the UK. The UK is a republic, difference being that in a democratic state the people vote directly on the issues. In a republic the people elect representatives to vote on their behalf. In football its money that decides. By boycotting the games you may even be playing into their hands, it may generate the opinion ......." look how bad the attendances are, we must do something to change that" and that something will always benefit them, not the lower league clubs. One last point, if people are so adamant that they boycott the games, why were they not at the games handing out leaflets , making some sort of protest or having discussions with the supporters who are attending the game. Guess I already know the answer to that one, keyboards dont work very well on podiums. By all means carry on your boycott, its your right to do so, as its mine to attend the game without being harassed. Just be careful of what effect, if any, you think you may have, as it maybe not the one you are aiming for.

Until Corbyn gets elected it's a democracy, and you can go if you wish. Typical keyboard bullies slagging you off. I didn't go because I don't agree with pretend teams being in it, but I respect your right to choose Henbury.
In fact, over 1500 decided it was right to go, and about 20 keyboard bullies on here say don't. No probs Henbury. You know and I know that if these sh*t teams were ever to get in the league the people to blame are the CLUBS who voted to accept them into this competition. In reality, it won't happen.
Mind you, you probably went coz you 'thought it was the WH first team'. Just like those who voted for Brexit aren't as intelligent as those who voted remain.
Always stand up to bullies and make your choice. People died to give you the choice.
