In the three cases quoted the staff and wage costs are the total costs not just those relating to the playing side so it's likely that the portion relating to the playing budget is below £2.8 million (60% of £4.7 million). But I think the comparisons are fair and in his annual report the chairman of Scunthorpe specifically said he purchased an additional £3.78 million share capital for "strengthening our squad to work towards fulfilling our aim of achieving Championship football" . Cash put in as as share capital (equity), or by donation, counts towards turnover for the purposes of SCMP but loans do not. If Dwane Sports have a policy of loaning cash, which puts Rovers at a disadvantage compared to other clubs where owners put money in as share capital, then I think it's better to get this fact out into the open. In his last interview Wael brought up FFP (he should have said SCMP) and implied this was the limiting factor for our playing budget when in fact the limiting factor is the way in which Dwane Sports have chosen to put cash into Rovers. You can't blame the Al Qadi's for not putting in the money to improve our salary cap, they didn't become wealthy by giving wealth away, they are businessmen and won't do something that offers them no short term financial gain and dubious long term gain. The whole "evolution not revolution" tag was really a way of explaining this. As Trew at Notts County showed, this approach is not always the best.
As long as they show some intent and lay the foundations for organic growth for the club by ensuring that the colony and Stadium redevelopment commence, I am happy with this. If not, little progress will ever be made and you would have to question why they are here. I just hope our owners are not out of their depth and remain sufficiently committed to the club's long term future.
Except most wealthy owners at most clubs have done just that, gave money away without any sure way of getting it back, virtually every club in the championship is spending more than 100% of their entire turnover on players wages.

Even a mere mortal like myself knows that when you take over a football club you have to put in the ££'s, none of this lick of paint, new clock, cleaner shitters, evolution not revolution, low hanging fruit BS. At this point revolution sounds Dam excellent; without checking their forum i'm pretty sure Bournemouth fans aren't wishing they were back to bottom tier footy and shaking collection buckets to survive?

I don't think it is a done deal but there are probably conversations going on with clubs behind the scenes. Apparently Preston manager Alex Neil and Peter Ridsdale were there watching him today and they were linked back in the summer. Neil has said he wants business done early so there is a chance we won't see Billy again after the Pompey game.

If I were him I would be on the phone to my agent asking him to get me to the Championship asap. Its clear the only interesting thing we could hope for is a relegation battle. The only thing that could keep him here is the thought of a tidy signing on fee in the summer, but would this tight-ass club let him walk for free?

The stadium collapse, the evolution not revolution and crazy gang talk is hardly going to help matters. He's too good for us now unfortunately and deserves a crack at a higher level, the sad thing is we will get peanuts for him when it should really be millions in today's market. Look at Peterborough, they managed to convince Maddison to sign a new deal and he could potentially go for anything up to £5 million!

Absolutely, we never seem to be able to tie our better players down, even allowing our inbred neighbours to steal our top scorer 11 months ago. Peterborough seem to work on the law of averages, eventually one will hit the jackpot and will make up for any losses, and the failures will just be picked up by us for a small fortune

The latter is now being linked with multi million pound moves to the Championship.

God knows how he even got 10 last season. I wonder if anyone actually watched him or we just relied on Marcus' judgement?

I'm hoping Nichols will come good, he does look decent enough in possession at times, but at this rate we will be lucky to recoup half the fee we paid for him.

Alex Neil and Peter Ridsdale were there today watching Bodin. £££ and Pringle then please. You'd be welcome to him. Not been injured but so out of favour that he hasn't kicked a ball for us in 2017. Will be off in Jan.

There is talk that his 'illness' that kept him out of the Oldham team today is actually a blood clot and he could be "out for months rather than weeks" according to the Manchester Evening News. We were looking for a sale but that may be delayed now until the summer. Not been determined yet how long he's out for.

Especially with players whose deals are close to running out, lots of shuffling/manoeuvring goes on before January.

Doyle has scored 10 in 11 games for Oldham, many PNE fans willing to drive him to any other club. Maybe PNE have forgotten how bad L1 is?

Don't want to be over-critical on Smith but he pushed it directly back to Davies. Defenders no chance.
You're dead right about Smith, he had a sh** game. Should definately have held onto the ball from the pen. It was straight at him and not at speed. Very slow in distribution . Almost did the same as the pen in the first half too

After nearly 5 years away from lower leagues most fans here can’t even remember leagues 1 and 2. Now with 11,000 gates only 4-5k saw them in those leagues anyway. Over half fans now are new fans. We don’t even get the half time scores from lower leagues given out now. They have truly forgotten where they came from.(except the people sat around me who continually love to take the P***, good naturedly, out of me!). Still as I remind them karma is a wonderful thing! UTG forever!
