Nicholls is becoming a real worry. You could tell from the slumped angle of his shoulders when he came on that he wasn't going to do anything yesterday and he had a nailed on opportunity that Ellis had to to pick up and make the most of because TN bottled it. Apparently he's a confidence player and his confidence must be very low. He wanted out of the Posh because he felt bullied by the fans. So he seems like a sensitive soul. I think it'll take all of DC's best Jedi mind trick motivational psychology to get him going. Where is the information available to view that he "wanted out at posh because he felt bullied by the fans"? From Grant McCann at Peterborough: “It was a difficult one with Tom really,” McCann the club’s official website . “There was an approach for Tom on Friday and rightly, that bid was squashed by the chairman and Barry. Tom spoke with me and told me that he had no real desire to leave the club.” “During the game on Saturday, there were a few boos from the stand when his name was announced and it upset him and his partner. Everyone has an opinion, rightly or wrongly. He wanted to go and speak to Bristol Rovers and that was the last conversation I had with him. The deal now has been done and we move on.”

To be fair to Nichols, and no disrespect meant to anyone on the forum but he gets written off before he has even joined the game. The negativity around the ground when he is about to come on would surely affect the performance, indeed anyone's performance. Is it just coincidence that at Blackpool last weekend we had our best spell when he came on having replaced Harrison, certainly less of a hostile reaction to him when we are away, we get a good showing and a performance to confirm we have a good player who needs our encouragement He is wearing the blue and white quarters and should be encouraged, positively supported, applauded. we should be getting behind him and not getting on his back every time something he try's doesn't come off, surely we are better than that. Mensah joins the fray and there is a massive cheer, Nichols joins to groans, which player is likely to start in a positive frame of mind. true but ultimately it is just a game of football. You walk on the pitch, you try to get the ball, and you try to smack it in the goal. of course your home life, mental state, experience, age, crowd, pitch, rain, injuries, etc can make a difference, but the problem with Nichols is that, putting the amateur psychology to one side, he looks like he does not have the technical ability to score, whereas every time Sercs gets the ball it looks like he has the ability and skill set to score. 10 this season, and had several saved well yesterday. Nichols has a lot of Darryl Duffy & Luke james about him at the moment. Not strong enough or tall enough to be a target man or even to be a Billy Oceon style 'back to the goal'/hold up player, not fast enough to blitz people with pace, not skillful enough to bamboozle them, and not a poacher/goal hanger. Hopefully this of course will change. that's what good coaches do.

He's on a hiding to nothing. what I'm trying to get over in the post is we need to support our players not chastis them.

I can't say I've really noticed him getting a negative reception at games but as a professional footballer the noise of the crowd should be a blur behind you. All our players and staff should read How to Win by The Secret Footballer.

He has earned that reaction by being so water poor in almost every game he's played for us so far. It's like going down to ten men when he comes on.

Someone needs to be criticised, even if they played 20 minutes at the end of a 3-1 win.
The fans are always right, just look at the demands that Harrison was released in the summer.

Our laundry lady is Nichols biggest fan, never has to wash his kit! Let's be honest, any of us could have come on yesterday in place of Nichols and we would still have won. He probably touched the ball half a dozen times and and lost possession four of those times. I have been prepared to give him more time but that feeling is rapidly disappearing as I expect he will at the end of the season.

Some have already written him off and seem pleased when he does something wrong so they can shout their abuse.

One bloke who stood by me first half (luckily he moved at HT) was just constantly moaning and seemed to like the sound of his own voice. I wonder why some bother.

There is definitely a footballer in there somewhere with TN but the team need to play to his strengths. Which is 442 with an absolute bully of a target man alongside him to create the space for a run or 2 and opportunities from flick ons, nod downs and the like.
We don’t play that formation, we don’t really have that type of player for him to play off and any technical ability he does have is lost because of a lack of strength on the ball. So he doesn’t really fit in.
Never worth 300k either, or not worth it currently. I do hope we are able to find a place for him to thrive and shine.

Great performance by the entire team, good to see the heads didn't drop after going 1 down. Even better was the contribution from the crowd. It's still special to see the quarters playing like we know they can.
Loving my Sunday.

Gotta laugh at the indignation caused by Wyke cupping his ear.
If none of you can remember Ellis doing the same and Ollie, then never mind.
It's a bit like when we are losing and the opposition are time wasting. People start getting wound up. Why? We do exactly the same thing. The most memorable being Ellis against Dagenham in THAT game. If we don't want the opposition doing it, the answer is not to be behind. But we all know that we will be from time to time.
Chill folks.

When he was brought on yesterday people were moaning around me with comments like "that's it then, were down to 10 me "etc etc. I understand this, and he cost a lot of money (for us) but I really wanted him to well, as I always a do, but once again he didn't do much, and failed to make much of an mpression. I think he should be loaned out in the hope he picks up.
