Surprised nobody has commented before.
I'm not sure which is more concerning, the fact it happened or that the one suspect has been so brazen knowing there is little we can do about it.

If the Russians want to go round bumping off their own people, then that's fine by me to be honest. However, it's the way it is done that is causing concern. Last time it was Polonium. Something that only a State could supply. The use of Polonium was a clear message. The Russians were brazenly saying, "it's us, and there is nothing you will ever do to stop us!". Now, it's a Nerve Agent. Both methods are highly toxic and could cause casualties amongst innocent people, as in the case of the Police Officer this time. Once again, by the use of this particular NA, something only the Russian State could supply, they Russians are openly saying, "it's us and there is nothing you can do about it!".
I think it's time the British Government did something remarkable. Break off diplomatic relations with Russian, kick out all Embassy staff, freeze all Russian government assets held in the UK, and deny visas to any Russians.
Next time, a lot of innocent people could be caught up in this internal Russian conflict, and many could die. The first job of ANY British Government is protection of the Realm. It's time a British Government were held to account on this.

It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence does it ! The NA probably entered the UK via a 'Diplomatic Bag'. The NA mentioned is banned by the UN.

Unfortunately the Opposition is part led by a Chancellor who is more of a Marxist than Putin who is an out an out Dictator ala Stalin. May is a ditherer and there is in the background a number of significant Russian donors to the Tory party which may muddy the waters. I fear for our Country and Europe when we have such weak leaders and the Russian Bear sharpening it's claws!! As an aside the names Clive but I live in Trevor.

There are two separate security reviews going on at the moment. I suspect an increase in the defence and cyber security budgets will be forthcoming.
In terms of options, we are limited. Hopefully we can get allies on board for some further sanctions, maybe expel certain Embassy staff and restrict visas, plus seize assets in London.
May looked very serious today and her language was as close to the diplomatic niceties as she could, short of saying it was an act of war.
Can't say I would like to go to the World Cup, though.
Things could get quite serious if we are not careful.

Just seen the bit of the statement with JC responding. Think he may have misjudged the mood. Valid questions perhaps, but not at this time.
Watch Emily Thornbury jockeying for position over the next 12 months or so. Between her and Yvette Cooper.

"Dear Russia,
In future if you want to poison someone in the UK and get away with it, pay a child grooming gang from Rotherham or Telford to do it for you. That way the media won’t report on it, and it’ll take 20 years before the authorities will be interested in it."
