I have my concerns on and off the pitch at the minute. I really hope the board show some ambition with these 2 number 9s or I will not be happy.

As I have said many times before it is all one persons fault What on earth have they been doing on the training ground it seems the trip to Holland was a waste of time and money Goodness me it seams already that we are in for one sh**e season ahead so much for progression Dont remember your post after the midweek 'friendly' victory ?? Personally I don't read anything into friendly results good or bad. I didn't go today for this very reason but to my mind if you're going to defend terribly & concede 4 best do it a week before the season starts.

I just hope that in post match interview he says he isn't worried about the result and is looking at the fitness of the players that will be the ultimate insult

His post match interview is already up so why don't ya go have a listen and then come have a moan before the moment passes

Thankfully I didn't go today as friendlies don't matter to DC so why should they worry me. I will stand by what I have said all along we still need a tall, commanding centre half, two strikers and another winger and DC has confirmed after the game that there will be no marque signings as we do not have the money ( the only margues will be in the seating area) Our saviours (the owners) are not willing to provide funds so I hope Wael isn't going to come out and tell us any more BS. The fact is we have a Manager who has got the team achieving above themselves and at best we are a just below midtable League 1 side that will do well to finish anywhere above that given that we are moving from the dinosaur age to the early apes in our evolution. Some will say I overeact but I just wish the owners would over react a bit-but they really do need a bomb up their backsides!

I thought we played some good football in the 2nd half especially today with matthews, upson and rodman all looking decent. Encouraged also by bernard mensah and gavin reilly looking lively when they came on. Stockley bullied broadbent off the pitch and made him look stupid though of course the other defenders didnt play well either.
Where is partington, lines and sinclair? Obviously tariq-holmes isnt ready yet which certainly makes the signing seem like a bit of a gamble. James clarke will play at left back next week imo.

Losing 4-0 against a League Two side has to be a concern, even if it was just a friendly. I've been saying we need a big dominant centre back for a while now and I think we missed a trick not getting in 6ft 4in Ben Heneghan from Sheffield United. The same old defensive frailties that we've had for two seasons now still appear to be there...hopefully Coughlan can help over the season, although he's not a miracle worker. Craig is not my cup of tea at left back as he doesn't have the pace or mobility I like in that position, so hopefully Holmes-Dennis can get himself ready and available soon. One week to go and in my opinion we still lack another winger option, a left back to compete with Holmes-Dennis, a centre back and 2 strikers. What I've been saying for weeks.

It's worrying that Nichols seems to be incapable of scoring goals for us. It's strange because at Exeter he was a real prospect, and he even scored 14 goals for Posh the season before he joined us. I still have hopes that he'll come good, but it's looking less and less likely as time goes on. He only scored 13 goals and 10 in the league. Peterborough must have been laughing all the way to the bank when we offered to sign him. His record at this level is very poor (13 goals from 97 games) and the sooner we sign a couple of quality strikers the better for me. But if you ignore last season's stats it's 50 goals in a 147 games, plus he played 50 games for P'borough the season before he signed for us and they are not typically a team who struggles for strikers, so they must of thought he was worthy of a first team place. I can't honestly see us signing two strikers who will start every game but two who'll share the no 9 duties, meaning Nichols or Reilly will still have to play alongside him.

DC has over achieved every single season. His budget last season was bottom half of the table. This season he doesn't know what his budget is. You really don't have a clue what you are talking about. And we finished in the bottom half of the table.... Bit confused what you mean by he doesn't know his budget as we've already signed 5 players who generally look good quality, at most a couple of strikers and a LB to come so most of our business is done. That said I do agree with your sentiments, just being a bit pedantic. π± DC has indicated in interview he does not know how much he can spend of the transfer monies received on replacements

I know itβs only a pre-season friendly but losing 4-0 at home when playing your first team, to a team in the league below is very worrying (embarrassing).

I still don't get why we need so many backroom staff and people in suits for that matter, strikes me we are hoping to uncover a gem in the development squad to make the club alot of money by selling them! DC has done a lot for this club but I fear this season will be his hardest yet to get results but I hope everyone gets behind him and the players because I know they will all give 100%

For what is worth here we go :-
Both Goalies - both looked nervous
Leds - Ok first half, looked tired 2nd half - Not fit
Locs - as per last year hot and cold
Broadbent - should have stayed in the Army
TC - Not a left back, better in the centre against Stockley
Matthews - Best player on the pitch by a very long country mile
Sercs - dreadful, why did he bother today
Upson - very steady eddy - had a good game
Rodders.... - slow start but got into the game
The little man Bennett - full of tricks but no end product
Tom "The Hit Man" Nichols......... just as bad as the rest
Subs
Mensiah - poor first touch, worked hard but know end product
The Jock - runs a lot......
Ollie - Their no 25 captain was a bully to him, guess there must be previous between them.... but Ollie came the closest to score with a 2 yard miss
James Clarke - best of a bad back 4
Kelly ( I think) looked good for the short time he was on
Positives - It can only get better
Negatives - the ground looked sh** from the west stand

To add some balance to the mini meltdown, I thought that was a really strange game in that the better side got stuffed 4-0! Two defensive shockers and a worldy from Boateng (no hint of that when he was here!) did for us in what was a decent performance but with no cutting edge.
We need to remember that in the same way that beating WBA last pre-season didn't make us a promotion team, losing to Exeter doesn't make us a relegation team either.
That said, there are some concerns. We played some good stuff on the deck but with Nichols on his own up front, it all unravelled as soon as it reached him. To be fair, he's not a lone striker but I'm beginning to lose patience with him. Accepting we don't yet know his weaknesses and therefore are likely only to see the good, I thought Reilly showed more movement and intent in his 30 minutes than Nichols had in the previous hour. Reilly and Mensah would look the best partnership from what we currently have and without a new striker by next week, I'd have no problem playing Mensah on his own up there.
Upson and Matthews both impressed too (although I wonder if Matthews may be a tad predictable cutting inside all the time), but if there's one thing we learned today it's that we have to play Tony Craig at centre half. I like Broadbent and do feel he has potential, but at the moment he is miles behind Craig. Broadbent was bullied by Stockley (strong but possibly not mobile enough for a potential signing) and didn't win a header against him. Craig, despite being smaller, won everything in the air or used all the tricks in the book to force an error from the striker. We don't need a dominating centre half, we just have to play our best two together: Lockyer and Craig.
So to Peterborough. Assuming no new signings or returns from injury I'd go with the following in a 4-5-1: Slocombe; Leadbitter, Lockyer, Craig, J Clarke; Upson, O Clarke, Sercombe, Bennett, Rodman; Mensah. I'd like to see more of Reilly but suspect a start might be too much so soon after injury and would exercise some caution at Peterborough anyway.

He has built this team over the last few seasons they are almost all his players and he admits we are not good enough which includes himself not being good enough how much longer are you happy to put up with this crap I bet Peterborough can't wait to play us on Saturday.
