We can only speculate on how much of a contribution our head of recruitment makes- but just going by how we are struggling to sign a striker whilst other clubs have got it all sorted I would say that there is a problem in the system somewhere. It may not be with the head of recruitment, it may be the budget or whatever but either way if there is a problem somewhere it doesn't help the head of recruitment do their job and naturally lessens the value they bring to the club. It's quite clear where the problem is with the lack of training ground progress and DC saying he will have to "over achieve" and "pull rabbits out of the hat." Nothing to do with training ground, it the size of the pay packet that is more important

DC suggested in EP transcript that Reilly came in to fill Telford gap and suggested Telford only became available after he signed Reilly

I thought he said Telford didn't fit into our system? Reilly sounds a similar type of player to Gaffney, according to the St Mirren fans. Does not sounds anything like Telford.

According to DC: “We are in advanced talks with a potential number nine - I don’t really want to say too much more.” “We are hoping to get the deal done before the weekend but that can hit the buffers. “Then we will see what is left of the pot of gold to see if I can get another one in which will probably be a loan after that. “The transfer window shuts on the ninth of August and then you have got the loan window after that so like I said we will get this bit of business done and I would certainly like two nines but we will see what is left in the budget. “If we get the deal done for the number nine before the weekend he will certainly be in the squad on Saturday.” Regarding adding to other areas of the squad he says: “Maybe I will have to go to loans, I did want to come away from them. But if there is the right potential one, I’d be open to it” Sounds promising to me. Buffers it is then.

About Telford - DC said : 'He is not my player, he was never my player. He is certainly a player I will keep an eye on and obviously he has got abilities but when I brought Gavin Reilly in that ruled that one out.' www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/full-transcript-bristol-rovers-manager-1855367

If Reilly's replaced Gaffers why is DC talking about signing two No 9's as Gaffers was rarely played as a No 10? DC's said earlier today that barring late injuries etc he's picked his team for Saturday, so even if we sign a new No 9 before 5pm(?) tomorrow it looks like Reilly (fingers crossed) or Nichols (most likely?) will start upfront on Saturday.

There fans said he runs all day, is always running into channels. Holds it up well, but has never been a great goal scorer. Telford is a good finisher etc, but hardly runs, which is why DC didn't play him much. Gaffney used to run all day, link up play, but wasn't the best goalscorer.

I don't know the reasons for Telford's lack of playing time last season, but I've seen him in the u23s "run", chase and harrass defenders into mistakes.

If Nichols does start, I hope he is up for it as he will get a rough ride from his ex team mates and abuse from the home fans too. I hope he is in the mood to not only prove us wrong but his old club wrong too.

I guess Tom and not Gavin will be starting. I saw Gavin training this afternoon in a North Bristol gym with players coming back from injury SS JP RM. Alex Rodman also training with them.
So probably Tom starts perhaps with BM, I guess Gavin hasn't got enough pre season game time, maybe he makes the bench. If the new guy arrives in time I guess he will also be on the bench

"Then we will see what is left of the pot of gold..."
Sounds a bit sarcastic about his budget to me, but perhaps I'm just being negative.
