I have been told by club owner that the player will sign tomorrow and is above 6ft my prediction is chuks aneke. As when I said his name he said ‘close’. He tends to do this type stuff with new players. Did it with Reilly also! Chuks Aneke isnt really even an out and out striker though, more of an attacking midfielder/second striker/number 10 type. He can play up front, but has always been most effective coming from a deeper role. During Aneke's time at Arsenal Wenger even compared him to Yaya Toure and thought long term he might play even deeper in midfield. Wenger: “Chuks is a bit like Yaya Toure – he has body power and good technique. We had Yaya here [on trial] and for me Chuks is a bit similar because he can play behind the striker or in a deeper role as well. We will have to see where he will develop, it is not excluded that in the future he will play deeper in midfield.” gaschat.co.uk/post/388757

Still think it could be Stockley. I'm probably way off though!

It’s always possible that the board have caved into the public pressure put on them and given just that little bit extra that DC wants to go sign one of the players on his list. Encouraging that we are seemingly bring in a number nine on a permanent transfer, they don’t come cheap. You could sense that DC was a little bit happier today from his interview.
My guess would be Devante Cole. Darrell has already confirmed our interest in him and Wigan our quite happy to let him go so won’t place ridiculous demands for him. DC is friendly with Paul Cook and Sunderland, Coventry and Bradford are all out the race for a new striker.

That would be a fantastic signing in my opinion, so please let it be him! (Or Ivan Toney)

Fair points and I would agree if it wasn't for seeing so many other clubs quickly replace outgoing players. We do seem to be in a minority in terms of how long it takes to replace players. It's like pulling teeth. Do we not have any contingency plans in case our best players get sold? Ideas in mind of replacements and how much they would cost? For all this supposed professionalism there seems a real lack of conviction when it comes to trying to retain our top assets and replacing them if necessary and it doesn't instil confidence that the various departments are singing from the same hymn sheet. DC has made it clear enough that it is to do with budgets. I'm sure he has been desperate to bring in two strikers before now and probably had a list of targets, but for whatever reason (Al Qadi) he hasn't been been able to agree terms, either on transfer fees and/or wages. He said at the BBC fans forum, or words to that effect, that other clubs owners are willing to put additional money in and he doesn't have the benefit of that here. I feel that's a bit harsh on the owners as they are already putting in £2/3m each season to meet the annual losses, where does DC think that money comes from? Plus if he's spending the maximum he can under SCMP rules then he must have a decent budget, given thst our turnover is now top 10 or even higher.

I remember a few short years ago when we used to get all our business sorted early in the window. We had no trouble getting Garry Kenneth, Matt Gill, Craig Stanley, Adam Virgo all signed up before the end of July. For f**ks sake why can’t we go back to those days again?? Pull your finger out DC!!

Most of the better ones have been signed by other clubs. And with respect that highlights the point I'm trying to make. We are so bogged down by inertia with regards to transfer activity that any head of recruitment we might have has got their work cut out trying to make a difference. Do other clubs at our level or below have a full time head of scouting/recruitment? I would have thought they may have contacts that they use on a consultancy basis as and when they need to make a signing rather than commit to a salary for a 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year role. I might just be being very naive there... Coventry had a head of recruitment called Tommy Widdrington, I wonder where he is now!

Gotta be a loan or someone out-of-favour, but its very poor to be in a situation where we still have no replacement for Ellis on the eve of our first game.
Maybe we should sign someone who lives somewhere on the route from Bristol to Peterborough so we can pick them up on the way?

I’m convinced that it’s Rhys Healey from Cardiff on a permanent deal for a small fee that might not be so bad though not ideal

Chris tweeted Rhys' brother saying "I see your brother Rhys is off to Rovers" and then stated it was a loan when asked by someone whether it was a loan or permanent.
