Wtf is that? 4-4-2? with 4 CMs? 4 CBs? Craig left back? Oh dear. 4-4-2 (diamond) DC must know who his best keeper is by now! Both have been at the club for a year. I don't mind Smith but am a bit worried they might lump balls into our box and he isn't great at crosses. At least Broadbent is back in though so hopefully he can head plenty away!

Looking at that lineup we’re in real trouble.
Hopefully DC pulls this one off but I don’t have much hope

I feel indifferent to them tbh. Some small irrelevant club that try to fabricate a rivalry with us on the basis of events that happened 4-5 years ago because they have no local rivals to speak of. They play proper ugly football mind. They’ll be the weakest of the newly promoted teams this year I reckon so a real chance to get our season up and running today. Bit more to it than that. They seem to be intrinsically linked to bad things that have happened to this club. Right back in the 90s when we were in the second tier, Martyn O'neill was lined up to come here and he chose to go to them a non league team at the time. The infamous lightning farce that was the beginning of the end for McGhee and possibly the start of our slide into the conference. Then of course the events of 2014 where they sent us down by winning at Torquay, though in fairness we pretty much sent ourselves down that day. Then if that was not devastating enough our then Chairman decided to launch a ridiculous legal challenge to get us reinstated at their expence. So really as I see it, it would have been better for us if they had never existed. I thought O’Neil was already their manager when he turned us down having been recommended by GF. I think he went on to Forest not long after.

Thought Mathews was class on Tuesday so glad he’s starting again. Would have like to see leadbitter behind him again tho.

Well this prediction has to be correct one of these days I suppose.... Does it, though? Good point, I might have been a bit optimistic....

Has DC got confused and thinks this is a Checkatrade Trophy game as we're playing Wycombe, as that looks like our reserve side? Why would anybody drop Bennett for Nichols?

I don’t think either keeper is a world beater but Slocombe is a lot better than Smith. The defence always looks much more assured with him in goal and he does the simple stuff well. Smith is the kind of keeper who will pull of a blinder of a save but 10 minutes later drop the ball in his own net from a corner.

That line up does not fill me with confidence, but I am happy to be proved wrong. In DC we trust.

Smith was dreadful on Tuesday. I hope he proves me wrong but imo he's no where near as good as Slocombe who himself is only an average L1 goalie. At least Slocs passes it out from the back and keeps the game flowing. I really hope Craig isn't at LB either, I would rather see Broadbent go LB and Craig as CB tbh.

I'm glad we're playing 2 up top. It's the lack of width that confuses me. Leads was brilliant on Tuesday, not sure why he's been dropped?

You only want to play a diamond if you have fullbacks that are capable of getting forward, there’s no chance that Craig and Clarke will be able to do that effectively.
Last week it was almost as if the midfielders that we had in the midfield, didn’t know how to play with each other or know there own roles. Now that we’ve added another midfielder in Matthews to that, I worry that this may repeat. At least Payne should not be so isolated now he’s got a striker to support him.

Shocking selection! First time I’ve thought DC has lost the plot! Hope I’m wrong!

They were also the club that beat us to send us down to the bottom tier for the first time in our history in 2001 by beating us at the mem when we had to play 4 games in the last week of that season. Yes it's all their fault. The b###ards.

A team selected to lose the game..... 4 centre backs AGAIN who failed to impress last week, lets leave our 1 real full back on the bench.... Smith in goal, poor on Tuesday, weak shots rebounding off his chest and failure to keep the ball in play.... Goal threats from Sercombe difficult when stuck out on the left wing..... Finally lets swop the goal scoring threat of Bennett with a non scorer Nichols...….. DC has either had a brain fade or hes had enough and is looking for a way out....you only get paid off if you are sacked, nothing for a resignation ||||||||||||

I think DC has Tuesdays game in his head. I would be surprised if we score unless Nichols has to go off.

None of us see what goes on during training. Maybe there are players carrying knocks. Not sure about the team DC has picked but there are points up for grabs all the same. UTG
