Today’s game was very typical I think of where we are right now psychologically. We started well pressing high up the pitch created lots of problems for Coventry then scored great. Then Coventry put a few moves together and the belief just drained from our players , we stopped pressing lost our confidence Coventry tore in to us. Half time 1-2 down. Half time team talk we’re all hoping we’ll come out second half firing but nothing. Motivation will start you off good but you’ve got to believe in what your doing or you’ll lose motivation as soon as something goes wrong. The players heads all dropped when the equaliser went in, nobody rallied the troops, they were all despondent, I don't think any of them believe, why would you, they were 4th in the league on a great run. How would your belief be if you went from: GC: DWDWWWDWWWWD BG: LDLDLLLLDDL (Even the draws under GC's approach were positive, the first was from 2 down with 5 mins left v pompey, the next two were in the fa cup and we won the replays and the last was against a very good Peterboro team). These players have gone from the highs to wondering if they've got any future under Garner's ideals.

I think the bigger issue is that he doesn’t change anything, but the opposition works out our tactics/formation What tactics or formation? Why was JCH up top on his own AGAIN! Why do managers not play a simple 4-4-2 and attack teams now a days? Whats with all this 3-2-2-2-1 bolloxs that we seemed to play today? This "great" first 30mins we had was not due to tactics,or our great play but rather just the game playing out as it did.I cant remember any great play by us during that time apart from Rodmans header. In fact it seemed very forced.Even JCH goal seemed to be at first glance a mistake from them. And the 2nd half was awlful.I felt sorry for JCH has he tried his best and was by far the our best player on the field but had no one around him and was helpless at times. We looked powerpuff, weak and clueless. It was only when Barrett came on that we had anyone able to pass the ball forward our looked like creating anything. I really doubt we will win more than another game or two this season if we play like this again. Terrible. Today was one of the first games I haven’t seen all season so I can’t comment too much on today’s performance. However I read it was 3-4-3 which is hardly revolutionary? Also whilst it’s fair people want to slate Bens tactics (I have been in recent weeks), you can’t have it both ways.. when we play well it isn’t due to his tactics but due to the “game playing out as it did”, but when we don’t play well it’s the tactics? Slate him all you want but you can’t have it both ways

I agree with all of that apart from the Barrett bit, his passing was woeful, he seems to be obsessed with spinning round on the ball, and if he didn't lose it then he generally passed it backwards! The few forward balls he played went to no one.

I still hope and think that there’s a chance that given time it will click . The Bolton game and again today there were times where it looked like the players were starting to get a grip of what it is Garner is trying to do. Small steps I know. Todays given me more questions than answers though , the biggest being why having pressed them so well in the first 25 mins did we suddenly stop ? Garner wouldn’t have been my choice and it’s been absolutely gutting to see us go from top six likelies to bottom half / relegation candidates in the space of 6 weeks but what can we do? It’s the hope that keeps us coming back for more and it’s the hope that kills us.

Ollie Clarke said something in his post match interview about Garner's style requiring more fitness and not suiting the players coming back from injury (and presumably the new boys who arent match fit) but that doesn't explain falling away after 25 minutes.

I refused to get on the Coughlan bandwagon because I knew it would go tits up. I finally started to believe after that Ipswich win and I was allowed 15 sodding minutes to bask in the rosy glow of our lofty position...and then it went tits up! Although not in the way that I thought it would. Perhaps that’s why I’ll always have more fondness for Darrell Clarke than anyone else associated with the club during my history with the club- whilst it all went tits up around him he managed two consecutive promotions without anything going wrong. Two seasons of success at the gas is the equivalent of building a 100 year empire in real world terms!

Well me and Mini gas set off from sunny Bournemouth full of optimism and hope, scarf hanging out the back window as is tradition.
'Lots of signings and no bid for JCH' I said, 'should see us pick up points again, I can see a 1-0 home win'
Mini gas said we would lose 3-0
Hit the Inn on The Green, parked up in the car park and went for the ritual pint with chips. Guys next to us playing 'guess the starting line up' and I took a look and said good luck In guessing that
He said I've only guessed it right 3 times in 2 seasons
A closer look and we agreed it looked like an odd formation and no Timmy as we hoped
Walk to the ground and took our spot, mini gas stood on his plastic bird seed tub behind the goal, and we looked ok for half an hour and took the lead through a clinical finish by our star man. Told you son.
Then it all started to unravel. They seemed to have more players, they had all the time in the world to receive the ball and our midfield looked lost. Upsons rash tackle in the 2nd minute didn't help.
To be fair we thought the lad from Derby looked lively and JCH was at least chasing things down, but it was, even by recent standards, a totally inept second half. We couldn't decide on whether to match Coventry with a passing game or revert to the old ways of hoofing it up to JCH and feeding off him. In the end we did both, but neither with any conviction. Even with a few minutes to go, with a throw near their box, no one came to the ball or wanted to chance something.
Football is a confidence game and we have none.
Mini gas said the ref won 2-1, I said 'don't make excuses'.
And we left it there
On the way out I stopped as 3 guys stood on an emptying terrace, and shook my shoulders. One looked at me and said 'give it time. Great things will happen again'
I hope he's right, but I do wander what the players must be making of this season? Doing well. Gaffer leaves. New top rated coach, new system, loads of new loans, new signings, and it is showing on the pitch
I don't expect us to be anywhere near the play offs and I hope we don't lose the next 6 or 7 to make it squeaky at the other end (no chance, is there?) so in a way Garner has time on his side. As one guy said to me at half time, Coventry are a damn good side, but it's taken years of stability to get there
I'm keeping the faith even if mini gas has a meltdown and says the drive is too long on the way home. Suffering never did Lord Buddha any harm.

Two seasons of success at the gas is the equivalent of building a 100 year empire in real world terms! Really it took you 12 months to get on the Coughlan bandwagon ? I was on it after the 3 games that he was caretaker , I loved the way he galvanised our team , got the players organised and working hard for each other and winning more often than not. He was a revelation for our club and gave it the strong leadership that our club so badly lacks from top to bottom. It’s absolutely no surprise to me whatsoever that since he’s left we’ve gone back to where we were before he was given the job. Wael should have found someone in a similar mould if the board aren’t prepared to lead from the top then they need a manager who is a strong personality who can lead from management level. Clearly Wael doesn’t realise this or he would have employed a more experienced director of football to work alongside Garner a similar way that Lennie did with Trollop. I’m not throwing my toys out of the pram about it, I’ll keep supporting our club and keep on supporting Garner I was there today and I’ll be there for the next game. We’ve just got to hope that in time Garner earns the respect from our players staff and support and then perhaps he can be successful.

I was a firm believer that hoofball is unsustainable long term and an overhaul is eventually needed. I wanted to see us move on from Coughlan to a Garner type manager in the close season, although one with more experience. Coughlan stayed and he consistently won games. I thought we would get found out by November and we didn’t so I probably got it wrong with him. Long term my view is still that the club would work best with a director of football and an identity with the manager being the conduit for that so that if we have any Coughlan situations there is still continuity throughout the club. Maybe that is what we have TW now? But the timing for this was terrible. It was too much to rip up what Coughlan had done. Save that for the close season.

Well at least I tell the truth and don’t paper over cracks, again you must be a crazy fan to applaud a manager who hasn’t won in 10 games but hey o he’s playing nice passing football and that’s all that matters not the results wake up before we are in real trouble I’m not applauding the results, they’ve been crap! But I can see the bigger picture, we ain’t going up and we certainly ain’t going down. The man will come good and when he does what are you going to moan about then, no doubt you will find something? That’s obviously just your nature Victor. Sorry but your as deluded as Daniel & co, there's not a shred of evidence things are improving, just because we gave Coventry a game for 30 minutes and drew with basket case Bolton doesn't mean things are improving. I've been here and seen it all before, the players bare simply not buying into Garner's vision and, just like Dodson and Penny, the sooner he's gone the better for all concerned. No Rovers manager has ever started this poorly, results wise.

Different team, apart from Ginnelly replacing Sercs it'll probably be the usual outfield players who start today? Anything but yet a defeat will be a good result in my view. Will be surprised if Ginnelly is playing today. Looked like he pulled his hamstring/calf when he came off in the week. Might be wrong though. Wrong

Am I right in thinking Harries is eligible to play today because he was signed before the cut off time but Daly isn’t? Neither can play. Right

Only from the usual suspects who can't help themselves. Sad really. Only the usual suspects jumping to the club's defence, most fans were looking forward today to seeing Abraham's debut but he doesn't even make the bench so it's back to Reilly as the only alternative to JCH if as an off day. Your usual negative slant without knowing the details.

What position does Mitchell-Lawson usually play? Winger but I can't recall him beating his FB once so far, surprised he starting ahead of Barrett who at least seems to be able to cope physically at L1 level. M-L Played well today.

For the first 25-30 minutes we were the better side pressed them well and linked very well as an attacking unit. After they scored the heads went and then they got another. Second half was scrappy subs for us didn’t help Coventry are one of the best sides in the division. We’ve got an average league 1 squad with rock bottom confidence right now but quality is permanent and confidence can be built and it can fall. It’s up to our new manager and his staff to instil some confidence and also it’s down to the players because once they get a win who knows how it will go from there maybe we’ll go on a run , maybe we won’t .

I cant see any progressive football. No style or creative play.We are not solid at the back anymore, and have no bite or creative player in midfield. The 2nd half was as punchless a show Ive seen at the Mem since our 2014 Relagation season.
