What a great business model for a football league club.
Don't charge fans to get in when you lose a few games!
What could possibly go wrong?
How about this one, which certainly seems to have worked better in general.
Turn up, get behind the lads, support your club - simple.

If we suddenly get cheaper tickets when we’re on a bad run in league 1 then what happens if we get relegated in the future ? Get in for free ? So obviously the club should have paid us to turn up and support the club in its darkest hours then , like the conference season?

This season is a pretty unique situation to be fair. In the last 20 years when has there been a situation before where a new manager has won 1 in 16 but had zero pressure on him from above? Whether we like to admit it or not the club made the decision not to pursue promotion by hiring Ben Garner and allowing him to oversee a total revolution of the playing style and squad personnel. It may well turn out to be an ingenious move down the line.
But what that means is, in the short term, all the evidence suggests that we’re going to get smashed most weeks because the lads are figuring out his system and he’s figuring out who can adapt and be here longer term.I genuinely don’t think the board care where we finish just as long as we’re not relegated. Fair enough, I don’t like that but that’s the way it is. But surely it makes sense to address all those fans who are likely to now stay away until August. Once the weather changes, I can’t see some of our lot dropping 20 odd notes just to go along and watch Garner practice transitions and turnovers, and definitely not if they’re paying full whack for kids.

I wouldn't say it was decided not to get promoted, it was a higher than usual short term risk yes but a points return higher than what we've got would have been expected. To address the fans that are likely to stay away, I think you've made a great point - when the weather changes! We can all go round and round about why crowds haven't been big for a while and why the atmosphere has generally been damp. There's going to be multiple reasons for this that a cheaper ticket won't solve. Until the weather changes or some other act of god and those people come back. I do see where you're coming from though. Without my ST I perhaps would miss a couple games without feeling guilty before the end of the season - although would this happen at this time of year in any mid table season? I do think throwing deals at people who don't want to come at the moment is akin to chasing losses and is short termist. I like the cheap kids ticket idea as that fits with the building for the future philosophy we seem to have been indoctrinated into.

Wouldn't be fair on ST holders. We've already paid for one game (Bury) which we haven't Seen.

One win in 15 games would see most managers sacked, certainly saw DC sacked. As for next season, I cannot see anything other than mid table, even if we play Garners "kids"

I am a season ticket holder, and last season I struggled to think why I should buy another one, but the relegation fight showed me how together the team was with Coughlin, and for the first half of the season I was happy that at last we had a tough hard to beat team that won more than it lost. All that has been lost by Garner who has had NO experience of being a manager, and NO experience of Division One. If this "project" is to succeed then I think we are looking at another 2 or 3 seasons, so for me next season will be yet another when we wont achieve much. So I wont be bothering with a season ticket for next season, instead I might visit some of the few remaining grounds I haven't been to.

I have missed 6 home and away That’s not bad I’ve only missed 4 episodes of neighbours. And that’s from living in Shrewsbury as well so I have only had 1 home game this season, so will be coming down on the Shrewsbury coaches on Saturday they do a great deal £15.00 for the coach from my local pub

A number of seasons ago Cardiff had a set cost for home games and depending on their position in the table the Saturday before they altered the cost of tickets so if they were in a play off position they went up a bit , if in automatic promotion they w3nt up a bit further , if they were in a relegation spot they went down

Where has it been announced that “ results don’t matter” ? GasChat. :so it’s true: It's been announced by one man in the Bristol Post and everyone thinks it's true. Most on Gaschat have fallen for it hook line and sinker. UTG One man's printed opinion and everyone stops going and spews out their frustration on Gaschat. Doesn't anyone think for themselves anymore? For me Sercombe and Clarke both played well, set up assists and scored goals under D Clarke but disappeared under Coughlan. Will they return under Garner, well lets see! Ogogo after a slow start became my man of the match in most recent games just like the Beard before him. Football is about entertainment, not pies, tents and santa's grotto.. This board have provided (twice) the best playing surface the Gas have ever played on at great expense. DC increased crowds by playing entertaining attacking football which finally failed as his one and only striker left and wasn't replaced, it cost him his job. GC played dull defensive football with his one and only striker and took us to the top but with falling crowds. GC has arrived and added to the falling crowds but will that change if his professed method is attacking football works out. Whilst his results are dismal his style of football is more entertaining and should have been rewarded with a few more points than those achieved! Do Gas fans prefer winning but dull boring "Leeds" of old tactics falling gates under GC seem to suggest otherwise www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/return-bristol-rovers-liam-sercombe-3882582

I get your sentiment, but what about season ticket holders who have effectively paid up front at those prices? Albeit you get one game free I believe in coatings saved. While not a lot can be done for season ticket holders, it does put me off renewing after having our season thrown away half way through. Bulldozing a well drilled setup for something that clearly doesn't work and then persevering with it feels like a let down all round to be honest. I don't understand how everyone from the manager to the owners and a fair proportion of the fan base seem to accept this in hope that a miracle can happen in the summer. I was hoping our win would take the edge off this and it did for the short term, nothing apart from the odd 10 minutes here and there convinces me that we can go any further forward than we are now with the current manager. Season thrown away? No, GC wanted out. It's his fault why the season has gone from us. And I bet majority of managers who take over a new club will want to put their own stamp on things and not continue with how the club was run previously, regardless of how successful the club were doing.
I don't blame BG at all. There was a lot of circumstances behind why it was a tough start for BG which is why he continues to get support from the owners, staff, players and majority of the fans.
Let's say BG continued with GC's system, even though it's not what he wants to do but he was willing to keep it going until the end of the season and then do his own thing in the summer. Soon after joining us, he had a transfer window available to strengthen. He would basically be signing players who he probably wouldn't want come the summer as they wouldn't fit in his new system. What a waste of funds that would have been. Whe he could have used those funds to build the set up exactly how he wants now without delay and if it works immediately then great, if not then at least the squad will be truly ready for next season. In all honesty, do you think we would have won promotion under GC anyway? I don't. It was ready to go tits up under him which is why he jumped ship.
