Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback. The statement is now out from the club about what we can do to help www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2020/march/supporting-the-gas/
I have to say that it was good working with Tom and I appreciate he's doing his best. He sent me the club statement in advance last night and asked for any suggestions which shows a good willingness to work together with the fanbase!
When I asked for communication from Martyn/Wael at this time, he mentioned that Martyn has done an interview with the Guardian and will do an interview with BBC Radio Bristol, so I'd expect these to be out shortly.
Tom's feedback on the points I had raise are below and in red (Take note that Wael has said he will cover staff wages):
Postponed games tickets: Donation scheme? Put money towards it and get that money off the ticket when it’s replayed. If its cancelled, use it on another ticket. Get discounts in store too - this has been added.
Voucher scheme/gift cards: can be used on tickets, season tickets, club shop etc. - I am not going to include this as the shop is now closed but I have enquired about adding vouchers to the retail store.
Flexi tickets: 5 and 10 game flexi tickets for this and next season? (EG, for those who live outside of Bristol who don’t want or cant buy a season ticket. These will be available for next season
Virtual 50/50 draws - I did think about this the other day. I will contact the Supporters Club to see if they can help facilitate something
Development games at the Mem (probably on last night’s news this is a bad idea) There games are off to so this one wouldn’t be possible
Player sponsorship? On behalf of charities we can sponsor shirts etc for this/next season? Not sure what you mean by this one but shirt sponsorship for the remaining games of this season will be for Utilita, confirmation of next seasons sponsor will be announced in due course.
Donations: Needs to wait until after April to see what happens. There wasn’t a huge interest in this, most people want bonds or shares. If it was to happen the feedback was that people would want to see exactly where the money goes, rather than just into the void (EG, paying staff wages etc) Wael has personally agreed to cover staff wages so any donations wouldn’t go on that.
Donations 2.0: The idea that every £1 fans donate, the Al Qadi family also donate £1 loan free/interest free to the club. Fans would want to see exactly where/how the money is spent too Same as above
Signed shirt auctions: Either from the current squad of player and/or we can utilise Wael to send a Rovers shirt to Chelsea and have it signed by Chelsea players? Other prem teams too! We do this through the End of Season Awards
Club shop promotions: So you mentioned shift discounts today. That’s good, maybe a black Friday type offer? Really build it up for a week or 2 to build interest. I don’t know the validity of it, but having hand written easter/birthday cards from players? We do hand signed cards for YP members. We will have more things planned to drive traffic to the retail to continue to drive traffic over the coming weeks.
Webinars/online talks: Could we host a live Q&A with Martin, yourself & Ben? Could we also do some paid lecture talks? EG from yourself or Martin – “how to maximise revenue in football” or “an introduction into the commercial footballing world” or “how to get into football if you’re not a player”? Could be good engagement and inspire young fans. It also can be ‘sponsored’ to keep current sponsors happy for exposure? More than happy to look at this. I will discuss with our media team.
Director for a day: Years ago my dad and I did this when I was a kid. You’d bid on on ebay and get to sit in the directors box for the game. I remember we had Ron Craig, Geoff Dunford etc. After the game the manager comes up as does the man of the match & captain. This is one for us to look at for next season. I think probably as a competition prize.
Sponsor lead auction? Get sponsors together to buy/give something that can be auctioned. Money goes to charity but the sponsors get recognition and marketing Again, we will do this at the awards…once they take place
Legends match: Depending on when we’re allowed to be social again, the idea of organising ex-Rovers team Vs ex-Rovers team (One under Darrell Clarke and one under Paul Trollope)? Would definitely be in the summer when the peak is supposed to be over – but this would raise quite a lot of money I think We have a legends game lined up with a Rovers team against Swansea legends in memory of Kevin Austin and a testimonial for Steve Bissix. I think this will now have to be rearranged but it will take place at some stage.
Virtual tournaments: EG Fifa 20 – set something up, all teams have to be players as Bristol Rovers. Winner gets a free shirt or ticket or something. We are participating in the Leyton Orient Fifa comp and have a game that we have created launching later this week.
Supporters help scheme: Something to focus on elderly/ill fans in need? EG, those who need help shopping etc? Fans to help other fans, just the club is the middle man in setting this up? Or even better, the players could be the ones paying for the food? I really like this. We could have a scheme where supporters can email and effectively register a vulnerable supporter and where they are and we could see if we can help, if not we can put an email out to supporters who are close and they could then register to help.
