By the same token, I do get that if we're trying to sign a player and several clubs are coming in for him, the offer of the security of a 3 year deal blows the opposition out of the water and gets us our man. No doubt engineered by agents and I appreciate that is what happened with the journeyman midfielders I've mentioned. The only way to get rid of them is to transfer list them, send them to train with the kids, tell them they are free to leave for free if they find another club and make them feel as unwelcome as possible in the hope that they find another club.. This usually works but if you've got a player like Kyle Bennett who digs his heels in and wants to stay because he knows he's on to a good thing by earning the wage he does , doesn't care that he's costing the club money, knows he's as welcome at the club as a fart in a lift but his thick skin means he's able to brush that off, then there's naf all the club can do about it.. That's the frustration. Jesus Wept

Then again as a club we should have thought about whether it was wise to offer a 3.5 yr contract at £4.5K a week to a bang average L1 winger who was already a bit of a journey man.

Spot on, best part of £1m in wages and compensation fees for a player who made about 5 meaningful appearances before being reduced to a squad/reserves player. People wonder why we’re in so much debt.

Good way to tank the morale in the dressing room.

Good way to tank the morale in the dressing room. We 'managed' stefan Payne out of the club last season and I don't remember too many complaints. Sometimes you've just got to do what you can to cut adrift deadwood like kyle bennett. Football is a business after all.. I'm sure that 'Team morale' would be more hindered by having a player on such a reportedly inflated wage, sat in the stands while his team mates on far less scrap it out on the pitch next season. That would really cause resentment.. Imagine this comparison then.. Where you work, one of your colleagues who is on double what you are on, spends all day chatting on the phone, leaves half an hour early all of the time and goes sick at the drop of a hat. Management take sanctions against that individual including suspending them and giving them mundane tasks to do in the Hooe they will find another job and be a financial dead Weight on someone else. As a colleague, would that unnerve and upset you? I doubt it.. Morale would be more affected if they stayed.. Never underestimate the discontent that a player who is paid a huge wage and gives little back, can have on a dressing room.

Good way to tank the morale in the dressing room. Exactly. Also the wider message going out that we treat players poorly which could be a barrier to future signings? From what I’ve read KB is very popular amongst the other players and trains well. It’s not his fault he was given a nice contract. On the plus side at least we’ve not been hit as badly as Leeds with Seth Johnson or Sunderland with Jack Rodwell !!!

So how are you going to force a player out who knows if he leaves voluntary then he'd lose around £2.5K a week even pre CV19?

Disappointedbwith Craig going. Although he is getting on a bit I think we will miss the spirit he brought to the team. I was hoping that they would have taken him on as defensive coach.

What happened to Mensa, did we get rid of him before and I missed it?

Of the permanent players released, I feel Craig and Sercombe are probably the only ones we might miss whenever next season starts. I would guess Craig will find a club nearer London where he can be with his family all week and Sercombe maybe Swindon, Exeter or Cheltenham. Both of them should get a warm welcome if they play against us at the Mem. If THD can stay free of injury, he will be a good signing for another club. Of the loanees, it would be great to see Josh and Jayden return for a further loan spell.
It will be interesting to see any new signings over the next few weeks.

Ollie Clarke will be relieved i would imagine, pending agreement of deal of course. We should try and renegotiate season loans for Blackman, Ginnelly and ML i think. Didnt see enough of Timmy.
