Maybe not, but doesnt make today right. Why didnt people pull it down 6 months ago? 12 months? 5 years? Or didnt enough people care or couldnt be bothered to organise themselves to do it. Today was an excuse to do it and to 'hide' behind something and has now robbed the significance of its removal whenever that may have been People have petitioned to have it taken down for years. they have and it's still been standing. As I say why did no one taking it upon themselves to drag it down before if they were so offended by it after years of council inaction? It was opportunistic and the wrong way to do it IMO. But what's done is done now and has been said by Marvin Rees and others, it needs to be recovered and put in a museum (most likely MShed) I am not against it being down because of what it means to some people, even if it wasn't my preferred choice for it to remain but accompanied by an opposing piece. Of course now there are the calls for it to be replaced an no doubt there will be arguments over that. Should it be local Black Civil rights campaigners? DJ derek. Perhaps it shouldn't be replaced at all?

What were the reasons given why it wasn’t, out of interest? It was decided to put up another plaque to clarify things instead. The council couldn't agree wordings. AHH...yes that puts it into perspective.

The last time I checked, this country was still a democracy. What gives black, white or polka dot louts the right to commit acts of vandalism? This lot need to be very careful. They may regret what they've done (if they have more than a few brain cells to be able to reason) There are thousands of people who disagree strongly with their actions, and there may be a backlash A backlash that would involve what do you think?

Bloody good read that and it’s interesting how the Merchant Venturers tried to obfuscate the truth- are they going to be in the line of fire next? Very disappointing the suggested wording of the scathing plaque did not get through, hard to imagine anyone would argue against that, despite what good deeds he may have done.

Every time I go past the bust of Alfred Fagon at the corner of Ashley Road, I feel sick.
This statue is a personal affront to my heritage.
I'm thinking of throwing a rope around it, pulling it down and chucking it in the harbour.
Will the police be ok with this?
Explain how this is a personal affront.

Step forward Jaggas. 1 other came close and was eventually banned for altering their user pic to something offensive but obviously that was seen in all areas of the forum. We have always let this area have freedom, but there are obvious limits as there are in all aspects of life. Free speech is a myth.

No one learns history from a statue. Should have been pulled down ages ago. Do not need a statue glorifying a slave trader in 2020. Maybe not, but doesnt make today right. Why didnt people pull it down 6 months ago? 12 months? 5 years? Or didnt enough people care or couldnt be bothered to organise themselves to do it. Today was an excuse to do it and to 'hide' behind something and has now robbed the significance of its removal whenever that may have been Probably because of the lock down

Some of the worst surely were between Gassy and Nobby so what did Jaggas do to get banned?
