The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jack Mesure as Assistant Manager ahead of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League One season.
Mesure made his first steps into professional football coaching with Crystal Palace, working alongside Ben Garner in the Eagles youth setup, where he spent the next 10 years. Mesure had an impressive rise all the way through the age groups eventually coaching the under 23 team.
Players to have come through the Crystal Palace academy set up throughout this time include Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Rovers striker, James Daly.
In October of 2018, Mesure made the move further into London to join the academy setup at Chelsea FC, after being headhunted for the post by the South-West London club. For the past 2 seasons, he has coached some of the most exciting young players in the country working with the under 15's to under 23's.
Mesure now reunites with Garner at Bristol Rovers, stepping into the role of assistant manager at the club, prior to the squad reporting back for pre-season training.
Speaking about the appointment, Manager Ben Garner said, "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to bring Jack to the club. He is someone I have known for a long time and worked very closely with previously. We share very similar beliefs and ideas about the game plus Jack also has the personal values and characteristics that will enhance the strong staff structure that we already have in place.
"Jack is an outstanding coach. He is passionate about what we are trying to build here at Rovers and his work ethic, dedication, and expertise will help us on that journey. I would like to thank Neil Bath and Chelsea Football Club for their cooperation in us being able to appoint Jack ahead of the 2020/2021 season."
On joining the Gas, Mesure said, "I'm so excited to get started at this great club. The manager has told me so many positive things about Rovers, the plans moving forwards, the people at the club and the fans. I hope everyone associated with the club is safe and well following this lockdown period and I cannot wait for the first game in front of the Gasheads. I look forward to seeing you all at the Memorial Stadium."

Not a good appointment in my opinion. Ben Garner is in his first proper job (academy doesn’t count Ben) and needs support from an experienced head.
This guy is basically in the same position. The lead two (manager and assistant) should at worst be a blend of experienced and inexperienced with one taking up the slack for the other. For instance, GC bought in Joe Dunne who had experience in management.
This can’t have been cheap either...

Key word here with Ben and this guy. Highly rated academy coaches.

He seems to be on the same page with Garner in terms of football philosophy and is someone who can help develop the younger players into the first team setup. The likes of Russe, Kilgour and Tomlinson should benefit.
A highly rated coach and like Garner will have good connections from working in Chelsea's academy. A very decent appointment. Welcome Jack.

Hoping this guy can add some bite on the sidelines, BG seems like he is too nice and not very vocal in dugout..need someone to be there to shout at the players too, get them moving around a bit. All the best and welcome to the Gas.

You’d guess so . One in .... one out. Personally I’ve no problem with another highly rated young coach coming in , if that’s the guy our manager feels he can work well and effectively with. There’s a theme building at the club , young hungry players led by highly rated modern thinking young coaches. Will it work ? Furk knows but I’d rather give this way a try than employ washed up dinosaurs who have failed elsewhere multiple times . Experience isn’t the be all and end all . We have to think differently and set out our own niche way of going about things. It might just work !

Seems a good appointment.
With the training ground and youth/development team set up, I'd say the medium to long term production line should be in good hands.
Questions over the short term remain though. Fingers crossed for a positive recruitment window and a thorough pre season to get us up and running when the season starts.

Not necessarily as Joe Dunne was never replaced, leaving us needing a assistant manager for a while. Kevin Maher will still perform his duties as first team coach and I think in a lot of ways we need his presence as an experienced coach, he knows a lot of the squad better than Garner too.

I wonder if this appointment was part of what convinced Grant to join us ahead of Plymouth providing that the reports of his signing are accurate.
