We must be offering players sh*t loads in wages. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us a year or two down the line a la Derby County signing ravanelli, eranio and stimac back in the day BG has already come out and said that we're below what our budget was for last season.

We’ve let go Sercombe, Nichols, Craig, Reilly etc. this summer - all of whom were on very decent money. Ayunga & Grant wouldn’t have broken the bank. I suspect Ehmer & Westbrooke are on a decent wage for this level but they must fit into the new wage structure that Garner’s mentioned we have in place now. I’d be surprised if we end up spending much more on wages this season than we did last. We’ve just made our moves early and shown these players that we’re an ambitious club with a forward-thinking manager, and these players have obviously bought into that and welcomed the security of being offered a contract so early in the window.

Hope it doesn't come back to bite us a year or two down the line a la Derby County signing ravanelli, eranio and stimac back in the day According to BG just prior to announcing Westbrooke signing we were still within last season's budget and he's hoping to stay there. With Craig, Clarke, Reilly, Nichols, Sercombe and now Menayese leaving, we've shed circa £10k p/w (reasonable estimate) off the wage bill.

I’d love for us to get JML back on loan for a full season too, impressed in his brief spell at the club and I think he’d really benefit with someone like Westbrooke around him. As BG (I think it was his interview) has said that none of our loan signings from last season are coming back, I reckon it's unlikely. Not true. He was specifically asked about the prospect of getting previous loan players back, Mitchell-Lawson was mentioned and his answer was on the lines of “we’re open to all options and we’re hoping to bring in more players to get the squad we want” so we’ll see.

Officially maybe.. but our undisclosed purchase of Tom Nicholls was apparently more than that (according to the Posh chairman on Twitter some time ago) Think Nichols was 350k + add-ons (Posh paid 352k total for him and MacAnthony was claiming they'd pretty much recouped that) We'll never know how much those clauses added up to, but if they were goal-related then it is likely that it is still less than Tilson Yeah but GC fact turned that into £450k+ Keep up!

So another signing. Is that 5 or 6 now? So exactly what is Ben Garners objective this season? Is he planning to take us to the promised land of the Championship? Things are looking very promising. But the hard work will be really begin when the new season starts. I think we could be in for a very exciting season in league 1. And the Gas could be one of the favourites to at least get into the play-offs. Love a bit of optimism. Unfortunately, plenty of other clubs have probably been doing exactly the same. very few signings by other clubs, possibly Fleetwood have signed 3 or 4 but don't think anyone is near Gas with 6.

I think that last sentence is the key here. A lot of players won’t be in very strong negotiating positions given there’s so much financial insecurity for clubs in the lower leagues. The fact we’re just offering them some form of wage and immediate financial security will be enough for a lot of players at the present time, without us needing to break the bank for them. It puts us in a very strong position thanks to Wael.

Fair enough, didn't know that. Still have the Championship relegations to deal with.

I wonder why he was told he could leave coventry by robbins. I know it sounds negative to post that but it does make me curious.

Very Positive; it makes a change not signing a Josh or a Jordan or a Jack or a Jonah so that is good? Maybe our team formation and players will be based on initials? With JCH and Josh Hare and Jakolla? And Barrett and ...... we could maybe play 9Js and 2 Jokers?
PS So that means Z may have to wait some time to start?
Welcome and Good Luck

Apparently our wage bill was higher than Coventry’s last season . This lad only really broke into their team last season by the sounds of things , so I doubt he was on a huge wage. Hopefully he’s the playmaker we’ve been crying out for . Utg

Cant be encouraging for Josh Barret. As I'm sure his role in the squad is the number 8? Or am I wrong If Josh Barrett is as good as Garner told us this will encourage to get his fitness and stamina up to the mark so he can fight for his place. If Zain is as good as everyone says, and Barrett is pushing him all the way then we could have 2 quality playmakers. When was the last time we were able to say that? Hopefully there are exciting times ahead.

Hopefully he’s the playmaker we’ve been crying out for . Utg Generally speaking, wage bill relates to success - i.e. those paying higher salaries will typically finish higher in the table, as per the 2018 book Soccernomics. That said, we have absolutely WASTED high-paying salaries in recent years, with Bennett the most notable current scapegoat. Sounds as though BG is trying to implement a salary cap (with one eye on the future rules impending) and offer more incentivisation rather than solely big wedges.

Hopefully there are exciting times ahead. I actually liked the look of Barrett (apart from his weight) when he started with us because he looked like he could actually control the ball and pass it positively? He would be better if he played more in the middle than on the LHS? Same applied to Sercombe? Hopefully, he has lost some weight and got a lot fitter during the break. And gets the chance to play a few games in a row to give him confidence. One of the few players we had who I think looked like he was a midfield creator.
