Would be curious to hear Gi or Knowall's opinions on this signing. They've been very quiet on the transfer front. Seems they don't care about the actual football, only the politics and the skullduggery that must make them feel ever-so-important. Knowall hasn’t posted for some time and I believe his health isn’t what it could be. If that’s the case he’s probably got other things to attend to and at the end of the day this is only football.

The likes of Craig, Nichols, Reilly, Sercs & OC etc were probably all on very good L1 contracts, the likes of Ehmer and Baldwin now having to accept just whatever's being offered this summer in order to keep up with their mortgage payments etc. I'd estimate (without anything to back this up) we've shed about £10k p/w off the wage bill right there alone. A good bit more than that I’d say.

Sad to hear that oldgas, of course I absolutely wish knowall a swift and full recovery if he is not well.

Apparently our wage bill was higher than Coventry’s last season . This lad only really broke into their team last season by the sounds of things , so I doubt he was on a huge wage. Hopefully he’s the playmaker we’ve been crying out for . Utg Generally speaking, wage bill relates to success - i.e. those paying higher salaries will typically finish higher in the table, as per the 2018 book Soccernomics. That said, we have absolutely WASTED high-paying salaries in recent years, with Bennett the most notable current scapegoat. Sounds as though BG is trying to implement a salary cap (with one eye on the future rules impending) and offer more incentivisation rather than solely big wedges. Imagine being a Sunderland fan ! 😂

I can see i will have to acquaint myself with Twitter , Twatter whatever and follow Wael to get first hand knowledge of signings,! We seem to be building a very impressive squad and some one is doing a very good job of selling the club and its vision to players who you would think were out of reach, well done to all and welcome Zain!

Well it makes logical sense, doesn't it? Higher salaries typically attracts higher quality players which in turn typically equates to a higher league position. It's not a shock that the Manchester clubs regularly finish above the likes of Burnley! Like I said though, we've just overpaid on poor players in the past but it seems as though we're trying to correct that at least now.

He comes across very well in his first club interview. Sounds like an ambitious lad and clearly ready to kick on!

Any idea how much we paid for the lad? Seeing 750k quoted on social media 😂

Seems hungry (even dropped the p-word a couple of times ) and obviously has winning experience in this league. If last season is considered his breakthrough year lets hope a change of scenery helps him really kick on. He'll be approaching his peak age at the end of this contract so I'm excited to see how far he goes with us. UTG

If anyone thought it was a mistake letting an injury prone Liam Sercombe go then they can rest easy. This guy will grow with us and IMO, better than Sercombe that we signed 3 years ago. Welcome to the gas Zain! I think I'll wait until we've played a few games until I make a judgement on that or any of our summer signings. I think we've got a list as long as the M32 of players that have had quality potential that have come to nothing. Glad to see a bit of optimism on our terrible signings. Well, that's 2020-2021 relegation sorted. What are your hopes and aspirations for League 2 in 2021-2022? I always thought part of being a Gashead was that feeling of optimism and hope at the start of a new season. Perhaps I'm a bit old fashioned when I see a bunch of quality signings and am excited about the start of a new season. Signed nice and early and straight into pre season training. Bit better than a lot of other seasons I could mention..... Perhaps I'm stupid for being optimistic....

Any idea how much we paid for the lad? Seeing 750k quoted on social media 😂 I would be surprised if it is anything like that amount, I guess we paid Coventry the rest of his contract (1 Year Division 1 wage) and offered him a salary increase. I suspect his 3 year contract with us plus what we paid Coventry might make £750K but I am only guessing. Clearly a Liam Sercombe type of player - 7 years younger and maybe better (that is a big complement because Liam was a really talented player). However the biggest signing of all is yet to be made (JCH) that one we may not get over the line.

Tremendous signing, just what we needed, a creative midfielder who is looking to assist & score, brilliant.
