Similar to all the doom and gloom that was posted after the Exeter game. It was a pre season friendly, basically played on The Downs. They mean very little. If they mean little why play them against decent opposition why just play non league clubs? At some point this group of player need to turn up and actually play for the club, apart from TC's 600th game they haven't bothered now for nearly 9 months. Perhaps BG needs to turn to being Mr Nasty as being their best mate doesn't seem to be working.

I think that’s a bit of a leap to suggest they don’t want to play for him because we look lacklustre in a friendly...but it seems a valid point that, if friendlies are so meaningless, why play them against a league side then? By playing a league side there is a certain tacit acknowledgement that you want to test your ideal patterns of play against a better standard so it *is* a learning tool, if it was just about fitness then you can run around and chase a ball against Patchway Town.

Bit harsh but you have a point in they literally didn’t turn up between March and August!!!!!

They're all about getting players fit, having a look at different systems, playing players in different positions, playing trialists, who the majority of the time wont even be signing, giving younsters a run out etc, etc. The results mean diddly squat.

Totally agree and said the exact same after the Exeter friendly. The results of friendly matches are an irrelevance.

Yes the results don't mean anything but surely the performance does? Or does the manager say 'Right lads just run around a bit today, nothing matters, the result or the performance, no worries about passing, tackling it's only a friendly we'll just leave all that until the first game of the season'

There is nothing at stake, they are generally used for the reasons i've already mentioned. Plus these circumstances are completely new, the players haven't played since March, it's understandable that players may not be as up to speed as they usually would be in August. Pre season fixtures really have no bearing on what happens once the season starts. 1 defeat against a club who are a division below us in a Pre Season friendly is no reason for all the doom and gloom

The problem is, BG needed a really positive pre season because he was basically pretty sh** last season. I understand that friendly games dont count but you would really have hoped to have seen something different from last term.

There is no doom and gloom, don't know why people are saying that there is tbh, I'm really excited for the season for the season to begin and think that our transfer business over the summer has been excellent.
Doesn't stop me from pointing out our performance wasn't very good yesterday though. That's not doom and gloom, that's just an opinion based off a paying £5 and watching a stream.

If we did, and we won very game 5-0, you'd probably be saying oh, it was only Manor Farm or Brislington, anyway. Then when we lose by 1 goal to a team 1 Division below us in only our 3rd pre season game having not kicked a ball since March, people are still moaning and it's full of doom and gloom.

No buffering plus replays and free! Once again, exposed down our left hand side for the 2nd goal. Teams will target us there this season for sure. Walsall fans did warn us about that.

Is it about keeping the Gaschat members happy, is it about a high position in an imaginary pre season friendly league table or is there some other measure?

How can you judge a trialist at all if, as Gaschat wisdom would have it, friendlies are only for fitness?

Remember a Paul Buckle had a good pre season, Paul Buckle had more league wins before joining us than BG and a better record as manager than BG has thus far.

I definitely dont want him to fail. I dont think Pre season is that big a deal. But..... I definitely havent seen anything to make me think BG is going to be a success and saying I'm worried about that doesnt make me negative or any less of a fan.
