Do like Hargreaves industry and his appetite to be involved. Will be a big season for him but then again I thought the same about Deon last pre season!!

Really encouraging performance in the second half, played with a lot of purpose and energy, passed the ball around nicely.
Certainly will have given Garner a few selection headaches going into the first game of the season because the likes of Hargreaves, Little and Mehew seem to be all staking their claims. I thought Josh Grant looked good too.

any tickets left on 'that' Bus? seriously though i reckon Ben will be pleased with what he saw tonight, i was any way, every one looked good on the ball, retention was good ,restricted Chelt to very few chances especially second half, we def looked more creative and threatening second half ,trialist looked useful first half at left back though did lose his man once or twice, all in all a fiver well spent!

Enjoyed that, especially the second half. Mahew also looks like a prospect, certainly knows when to pick out a pass. Agreed, BORIS 2, the second coming!

Centre back will be interesting this season. Looks certain we will be playing 3 at the back and we were all assuming it will be between kilgour, ehmer, baldwin and harries but seeing Kelly and little playing there gives garner even more headaches. Both looked really comfortable in that wide centre back position.

I think we could do worse than start a few of them against Ipswich and treat it like a friendly, we need to see if they can play a tight first half against decent opposition the way they played a second half against a Cheltenham team who left a few gaps compared to the first half. I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that our second half side (of youngsters) looked more dynamic than the first half side.

We've one, possibly two, friendlies still to go why do we want to mess about treating the Ipswich game as another friendly, with no home fans that game looks very winnable.

Rovers much more dominant in the second half Mark Little and Cameron Hargreaves stood out for me. The player on trial in the first half didn't seem completely familiar with the role he was asked to play but the way he slotted in his his goal was quality and he had an excellent touch on the ball, not a grinder but definitely a player - I liked him. All in all more encouraging than the effort against Forest Green.

It’s the league cup- with no fans for a while we won’t make any money from a cup run and we obviously aren’t going to win the bloody thing. Ipswich is a good chance to warm up for the first 3 games which are all against games we will struggle to take points from. A good a chance as we will get to identify if this second half tonight was more due to our ability to take the game by the scruff or Cheltenham slacking off and leaving us space.

Couldn't watch it but sounds like a big improvement on the previous friendlies. Looking forward to seeing the highlights.
It's important that just as we shouldn't get too downbeat after a pre season defeat, we also don't get too upbeat over this.
I hope that BG is doing exactly as he says and simply gearing us up for the pure purpose of day 1 of the season.

100% sure the trialist is Devante Cole. What position did the trialist play? I thought Devante Cole was a centre forward.

Cheltenham looked the better footballing side and we seemed to struggle when they made the midfield compact and we had Upson not offering our back line an outlet. Grant looked better in that sense in the second half but he had a lot more space to play in so it’s a bit swings and roundabouts and we need to see more of the second half players to properly evaluate who our best starting XI is. Nicholson looked pretty good in the first half. Personally I thought the trialist was hit and miss.

For those earlier on in the thread who were asking where Rodman, Daly and JCH were tonight. Apparently Rodman has an ear infection and JCH and Daly have come down with a bit of a sickness bug, nothing serious according to Garner.

First half wasn't that great. Maybe a slight improvement on Saturday but not much. Too many sideways and backwards passes and nobody apart from Nichsolson seemed to show any urgency or desire to get forward. Other than the goal on the stroke of half time - which was well worked and well taken - I don't think their keeper had a save to make and I can't even remember us having a corner. Cheltenham looked brighter and created the better chances. Ruben Reid hit the bar and Jaakkola had to make a couple of decent stops.
Second half much better. The defence looked more comfortable and brought the ball forward instead of launching long balls from the edge of our own penalty area. They were giving the midfield possession in better areas and Mitchell-Lawson and Hargreaves were very lively. Mehew also did his chances no harm with an encouraging display. As axegas says above, we played with more purpose and energy and could in the end have won by more.
I'm now seriously questioning what I originally thought would be our best 11. Stand out players tonight were Nicholson, Little, Hargreaves and Mitchell-Lawson. In the second half - for the first time in pre season - we actually looked like a team that knew what they were doing.

What position did the trialist play? I thought Devante Cole was a centre forward. Played left back but the goal scored was that of a striker. Would seem odd to bring in a centre forward for a trial and then play him at left back. Then again BG hasn’t got a clue and we are relegation certainties!
