Good to see us not dick about with it at the back too. Nice direct quick tempo football the way it should be played at this level and the players looked much more comfortable. Not going to get carried away , Northampton looked a poor side but it’s a building block for us to push on now. That’s probably the most encouraging thing I’ve read. We surely aren’t good enough to play without some sort of tempo. Dithering and allowing opponents to reset is criminal at our level. That was the difference today.

That was much, much better! The second half (of the second half) was a joy to watch and I feel like we got a glimpse of what BG is trying to do, with things starting to click today. It is a shame that it took a penalty and a sending-off to push us to play in a higher gear, but step it up we did! Very encouraging stuff overall. Hanlan and Tutonda particularly stood out for me. UTG!

Poor side Northampton so get the result in perspective. Still concerned about the gap in midfield which poorly links midfield and attack. Nicholson looks a big improvement. Not impressed so far with Westbrooke, bit too lazy,he passes to the guy next to him and when he goes long it's often misplaced. Hanlon and Tutonda excellent today. We had 17 shots, 7 on target and could easily have won 5-0.

Could it be we made them look a poor side as they have won at Shrewsbury this season and there loss was to Hull who I think will be in the top 6 at the end of the season. Yes there style is poor but it's no different to what GC did really.

Poor first half. Much, much better 2nd half. Good work lads. I might even watch EFL Goals tomorrow morning, for a change.

We win and with a good performance, showing improvements and yet still people have to criticise something.
I find it funny that when we lose, some get angry that BG uses excuses. Yet now we won, those same ones start giving excuses why we were fortunate to win. Couldn't make it up.
Not sure why some people can't give credit when it's due.

Just listened back, he said great buzz around the club and one of the things is the stadium in the pipeline as well Yeah, that's what I thought I heard I just laughed when he said that. I don’t think that an injured player would be given that sort of information in case he blurted it out. Oh, hang on.....

Way too early to say we’ve turned a corner but plenty of positives today. The keeper and three centre backs keep a clean sheet. The two wingbacks were excellent and BG should be praised for the brave switch in dropping Leahy who has been the best outfield player this season. Westbrooke had a good second half after being a bit wasteful in good positions first half - the step over for Nicholson’s chance was very clever and showed great awareness. Up top Hanlon was a real handful and was unlucky not to get a second. Hope we use this as a springboard for the upcoming games and that the fans give the new signings a fair crack - Baldwin and Westbrooke already seem to have been picked as season scapegoats by some ‘fans’. Great post, very much agree. Those 'fans' have gone very quiet, obviously not happy that the result doesn't fit their agenda! My only agenda is an improvement in performance and results. A win against a water poor Northampton isnt really much of a barometer is it? I was impressed with a few players today however and you can only play what's in front of you. Hopefully the team can gain some much needed confidence and kick on from this.

I thought the back 3 today looked shaky until we went 2-0 up. Im sure this clean sheet will give the defence a much needed confidence boost. Hare looked solid and was unfortunate not to score when he hit the bar. Tutonda was brilliant. So much confidence in his own ability. My man of the match today. Daly and Hanlan ran their socks off and im glad Hanlan got a goal, even if it was just a penalty. I wish Daly got a goal because for me, his work rate deserve it. I thought Grant didn't have a great first half but had an excellent 2nd half. Hopefully he can build on this. Westbrooke and McCormick grew into the game as it went on. McCormick especially. Was my first time watching him and he impressed me. Overall, me personally, I was looking for improvements and I feel we got it. All over the pitch. Definitely a lot of positives to take from this. 3 points, clean sheet and just a couple of points outside the play offs now

Looks like the Northampton players have to shower in a different part of the ground to their changing rooms.

Well done BG and the team. Came into the match under pressure and responded well. Credit where credit’s due. Good to see BGs half time talk have an effect with an improved second half. Really good performances from Hanlan and Tutonda and the defence. And good to see Nicholson back playing. Shame we couldn’t get a couple more goals in that last 10 mins. Glad Baldwin scored a good goal it should give him some confidence. We needed a win and we got it, hope we build on it for the rest of October. UTG!

Despite poor opposition, other than maybe Grant, I dont think anyone had a particularly bad game and for once it was also nice to see us actually improve after the break!

Agree with most on here regarding Hanlon and Tutonda being stand-out players today, but also thought Daly was excellent. I think Westbrooke has looked decent in each game so far, and am far more puzzled by Grant to be honest, but we all see games differently. As a few have said, hopefully this breeds confidence and we play with a bit of a spring in our step. Worth noting we are above Blackpool, Fleetwood, Oxford, and only a point off Pompey etc after playing 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the league... lets see if we can build on it!

Looks like the Northampton players have to shower in a different part of the ground to their changing rooms. Not sure where but they don’t have an away changing room. Away teams are currently using the Presidents club bar.

Not sure what your comment has to do with what I said. We won. We played well. We showed improvements across the pitch. People are quick to attack BG when its not a good result yet slow to give praise when it goes right. People moan when BG gives excuses yet come up with their own excuses why we were lucky to win, such as "poor side Northampton so get the result in perspective".
Of course we are all entitled to our opinions but but why can't we be pleased with the 3 points before all the negative break down of certain aspects of the game itself.

Looks like the Northampton players have to shower in a different part of the ground to their changing rooms. Noticed that before, very strange they can't use the visitors changing rooms but can wander over afterthe game and presumably use the showers in them.
