u Ayunga hasnt been given a proper chance especially with Hanlan. They could make a lethal pairing. Start Ayunga instead of Daly next time? Yes, they had 2 great identical chances but we should have six fielded them. Too many clear cut chances missed. Good win though. October is where we need to pick up points! UTG I liked Daly contribution today, he seems to like to cut in from the right and there's potential. I like Ayunga contribution too, but with Hanlon could be great, I'm just concerned they're too young. Ayunga is still learning his trade and agree he hasn't been given a chance. We need a jch replacement..... simples..... unless anyone is suggesting Hanlon is the replacement? In that case, we need a suitable strike partner... because if someone marks Hanlon out the match, whom comes in to step up? I think age us irrelevant; you may get better with experience but Ayunga seems to fit the JCH mould; he also seems to have good control and a pretty good shot UTG

Three points are three points. No matter the quality of opposition. We did a lot of things well today & the victory was fully deserved. Now for a very tricky assignment at Sincil Bank.

Way too early to say we’ve turned a corner but plenty of positives today. The keeper and three centre backs keep a clean sheet. The two wingbacks were excellent and BG should be praised for the brave switch in dropping Leahy who has been the best outfield player this season. Westbrooke had a good second half after being a bit wasteful in good positions first half - the step over for Nicholson’s chance was very clever and showed great awareness. Up top Hanlon was a real handful and was unlucky not to get a second. Hope we use this as a springboard for the upcoming games and that the fans give the new signings a fair crack - Baldwin and Westbrooke already seem to have been picked as season scapegoats by some ‘fans’. Great post, very much agree. Those 'fans' have gone very quiet, obviously not happy that the result doesn't fit their agenda! Not at all - not taking anything away from the win - and I am mightily relieved that we picked up three points today - but honestly we were sh**e 1st half and only really improved when Nicholson came on 2nd half. Even the commentators admitted that we only “shaded” the first half and let’s be honest, Northampton were poor. Relieved we’re off the bottom but not convinced about Garner yet. I hope this is the start of a good run, but I won’t be getting his face tattooed on my arse just yet . . .

Solid and slick performance it looked like we had grown ups on the field today, the manager got everything dead right - well done Ben. BH and DT look superb acquisitions though I would love to see Ayunga up front with Brandon. Baldwin took his goal superbly the ball bounced kindly for him and one tenth of a second later it was in the net, no goalkeeper in the world would have saved the shot.

Good result and certainly more positives than in our previous games.
However, one win at home against a side that are likely to go down can't wipe away the record of 15 defeats from our previous 23.
It is a start and a step in the right direction though.
I was still disappointed with the first half to be honest. Looked like two poor sides to me and many of our failings from the first 5 fixtures seemed to still be evident. Defence a little uncertain at times, Westbrooke and Grant ineffective and no real chances or shots from our front 3.
Second half much better. We started brightly and good play from Hanlan won us a penalty that was well converted. Soon after Northampton had a man sent off and from that point on we got well on top and probably should have scored more than the close range effort from Baldwin.
Pleased and relieved to get the win, encouraged by many aspects of our second half performance but Northampton are a poor side and we didn't really dominate until they went down to 10, so I'm not getting carried away. It remains to be seen whether this was a one off or if we can continue the improvement and pick up more wins over the coming weeks. Follow this up with a win at Lincoln and I'll start to believe we've turned the corner.

Would it have been more realistic (in terms of value) to keep jch with all his goals he may score? Every club has been propped up by their owners, we're not unique... There has to be a value for losses and a replacement value, I think we need another striker, unless you think Hanlon takes the wage if jch...
