Welcome to the gas Ben. As per normal negativity reigns with a new signing how about we give the lad a chance before we criticise him for being either not tall enough, not experienced enough or not a 20 goal a season striker. Of course in an ideal world we'd have brought in a guaranteed goal scorer but this isn't football manager, there's a reason they aren't easy to sign

Developing young players is what is being preached as our philosophy, it’s not just BG but what Wael wants too. Also, tried and tested don’t come cheap. I’m genuinely interested in what the forum members think in terms of who we could realistically recruit that fits what many want which is an experienced and proven 20 goal a season striker Fair enough, who has had success with that model before? What sort of transfer fees did they get? We’re they able to sustain their league position? What was their ratio of experience to youth? I mean, I assume we haven’t just decided to do this without investigating whether it was viable at league one level first right? ......right? Coventry maybe? Is this new approach not worth a try or do we want to go back to signing loads of journeymen? We make losses every year and that is now being compounded by playing matches behind closed doors - can we expect Wael to fund expensive wages for experienced, proven players out of his own pocket?

It’s a new thing mate, we are the originators and so far it’s working fine. We are 15th so in line with approximately where we have finished for the last 4 seasons. Pretty much all these signings are free, just need some More decent Performances to get the prices of them up and we start the money ball - simples So playing a youth team at league one level, worth an inexperienced manager is a completely new wheeze the club has dreamed up? Oh great, that’s put my mind right at rest. I wonder why nobody has thought of fielding a youth team and cashing in big time before? Odd one that.

Well for a start Mark Robins had been about a bit so at least the manager had some experience and knew the EFL, that’s not the case with us. Our manager has no experience, never played in the lower leagues and his coaching experience is at prem level. So not a great start. And surely Coventry had some experience? Literally playing a youth team in what is reknowned for being a very physical league is a completely new one by me, I must say. I’d wager that if this was a viable plan Darragh MacAnthony would have been there done it and bought the T-shirt before the lightbulb even went on above Wael’s head considering that Peterboro’s model is all about scalping champ clubs for up and coming players. Imagine telling him you can scalp them with literally no outlay start with! He’d be over the moon. So it concerns me that we are the ones to try this when we don’t have any experience of what it takes to make it succeed in the first place.

Another young, lightweight central midfielder. As others have said it appears an odd transfer. What did you make of the win on Saturday ? I thought we were poor first half but grew into the match second half, especially after the red card. We lacked a bit of cutting edge to put a very poor Northampton side firmly in their place.

I’m genuinely interested in what the forum members think in terms of who we could realistically recruit that fits what many want which is an experienced and proven 20 goal a season striker Not sure we're expecting 20 goals a season, 15 would do, there's plenty of L1 clubs signing that type of striker, Taylor and Pitman etc, having sold JCH for £1M+ it's not like we can't afford a striker. Personally I think BG & Weal are deluded if they think they can turn a bit of kids into a competitive L1 side, before they then start selling them for a £1M+ each, every successful team as some experienced players. I was responding to 365 who wants a 20 goal a season striker. If we are lowering the bar which experienced 15 goal a season players are currently available and will fit in our budget? With the club making no money and being propped up by Wael’s own cash and having recently cleared a £20m debt did anyone seriously expect Wael to spend a significant lump of the JCH fee on signings with commitment to long and expensive contracts?

What would you be after then? A 30 year old striker then upson and rodman to play? Would that be better in your opinion bud?

Has anyone made up his wage yet? If not I'll start.
How the hell can the club justify paying this lad £5.5k a week?
Take it away, Topper.

Not the most logical signing at first glance, but maybe Ben feels that the new guy will get into the first team very quickly. If not them the signing is hard to understand.

What other chairman is saying “let’s throw the experienced lads out and get a youth team in, oh and an experienced manager along with it, that sounds like it will work” As I said above, there are far better run clubs than us that would be doing it already if it seemed like a viable approach. I worry that we are guinea pigs for an experiment that is going to end up looking like a really bad idea and that it was obviously a really bad idea to start with. If your scouting network is good enough you don’t need to worry about signing players like Bennett because your vetting process would weed them out. I really don’t think we spend half as much effort scouting our players as people think otherwise how do we end up with the likes of Timmy Abraham?

Not sure how our CMs work out between right footers and left footers but it has been clear that in 3-4-3 the two centre mids can get overloaded and overworked and so it would be useful to have a couple on the bench if we need to switch to 3-5-2 and also cover for injuries or fatigue. It also seems like if anyone is going to get a chance to shine to the point of being a saleable asset then again midfield might likely be the place they do so, therefore it’s not that daft to ensure you have a ready made replacement in the building should your playmaker be sold or your loan starlet(s) be recalled in January, which is a frequent occurrence with us. If you also subscribe to the view that whilst Hargreaves might just be first team ready but Mehew, Walker and Tomlinson are a season behind him then this surplus of midfielders is not quite as large as we thought, the paucity of weeks when we could actually pick Barrett for first team duty hasn’t helped either. Yes a forward who knows where the net is needs to be signed before the deadline, and at this stage they are more likely to have got their goals in PL2 or 5th tier and below unless TW can pull a rabbit out of the hat...but we all knew another CM was on the cards, l guess some people are just disappointed it’s not Sheehan. Hopefully when Ben’s settled in a bit then we’ll have forgotten all about him!

Out of interest how many of the starting 11 need to be experienced players for it to be deemed not a youth team ?? Jaakola, Baldwin, Ehmer, Leahy, Little, Rodman & Upson have all played plenty of games. Our policy as a club now is to recruit young players with a sell on value so logically that's what the recruitment team will be looking for. Of course a bit of experience is needed but it's doesn't guarantee a thing, I seem to recall there were plenty of experienced players in the last Rovers side that were relegated from league 1

I hope the lad does well, I really do!
I just feel it's a bit of a weird signing in the sense that we have enough central midfielders and especially with Mehew getting praises and doing well.
Let's this lad hasn't used up all of BG's pocket money and we have enough to sign a striker.

Amazing the negativity on this site when we sign a player people haven’t heard of, a few weeks ago when we signed Tutonda from Barnet there was a similar reaction, a couple of appearances later people are now saying we found a gem. So welcome to the gas Ben , give 100% for the shirt & hopefully your career will go from strength to strength.
