Have heard some very positive things about this Lad when I spoke to a pal at the start of the week - You may recall I said we were very close to someone at 11ish on Tuesday ... Here he is ... Likes to tackle and can pick a pass ... Pleased with this signing and he is a permanent.
Striker will follow - Have some faith guys. I am expecting a Young Gun from a Premiership set up - WE shall see.

As for Liddle, first impressions is he looks like a boy. If he's that great at tackling, surprised Warnock has got shot of him!

At the end of the day I felt we lacked a box to box midfielder and based on his interview it sounds like we've signed one.
Obviously a slight concern that he hardly featured during loan spells at Forest Green and Scunthorpe but clearly BG thinks he can develop into a good player and at 22 he's still got time on his side.
I would have prefered a ready made proven player with some experience like Sheehan but I guess he was out of our price bracket.
They no doubt had to make sure there was enough left in the kitty to bring in a striker as well.

Absolute liquid Garner signing. Three years older than Mehew with 5 more senior appearances. For someone that's been held up as someone who will develop players, he doesn't seem to have a lot of time for our youth team graduates. He might be decent, but we're stacking ourselves with a complete lack of experience. Maybe I'm old fashioned but you need some in there and we seem to have none past the backline.

Maybe BG is seeing the bigger picture and not being short sighted for just this season. Young players will grow into experienced players but it takes time. This season I will be delighted just to stay in the Div 1 (mid table would be nice). BG can work on his young team and then in a season or two we will have an exciting, well oiled, skilful team that won't look out of place in the Championship. Imagine if Coughlan had stayed and we ended up in the Play-offs and somehow won and got promoted. I guarantee that we would have come straight back down, will have lost all our decent players and probably continued with the drop. BG needs time and we should give it to him.

You do get the feeling though that Garner hasn't a clue about any of these signings, they are just dumped on him and he's asked to improve them and sell them on for big a fee, that's the model. Josh Barrett was signed on a 2.5 year contract and when he joined he was billed as a great prospect last January, even when fit how far down the pecking order is he now. I suppose we will all have to wait until Garner is sacked and the truth will be revealed.

For me when fit he gets straight in.

He's won 3 league games in 23, never won an away game, never won a cup game and can't even beat Oxford. I suggest he worries about the now and not a season or two down the line if he wants to keep his job.

Upson in the middle, although he does not play I expect he helps the younger player's in training and on a match day etc. Apart from him the other midfielders are all in their early 20's.

Realistically we have very little in squad experience and even little in the coaching staff. Upson while experienced is quite a passive character from what I've heard, not quite a Tony Craig with regards to putting him around and his boot up the arse of younger players. In fact, it seems to me Garner is almost threatened by experience and leaders...

Gillingham fans said he was a good leader and organiser. Experienced player's get paid a lot more and you have less chance of developing them and making a profit. That's the main reason, you can see our philosophy now. I agree we could do with a few more experienced player's though.

We'll have a squad that won't look out of place in the Championship. They might be playing non-league football, mind but they wouldn't look out of place in the Championship.

Without experience though it is chucking too many in the deep end to sink or swim and the odds are that they are more likely to sink.

Yes to say BG is looking to the future and not being short sighted is naive on BG's part if this is the case. It's a boring cliche but football is a results business at the end of the day and you need results too otherwise you'll soon be out on your arse.

What’s happened to Luca Hoole or Lucas Tomlinson? Both were held in high regard but have dropped off the face of the earth under BG. And before I get the reply of Mehew/Walker... EFL trophy experience isn’t the same as backing them in the league.

Not every season has to be 'our' season. Sometimes you have to see the bigger picture and plan ahead. But that's okay, you carry on being negative and wishing us to fail.

Hmm, this sounds like an obvious strawman, I don't think I've mentioned the Champions League at all. Nor do I think actively aspiring not to be competitive in the league we're in can be described as "impatient" I don't see how you can plan a Championship challenge by risking relegation to League Two. That's clearly fallacious logic. If you're happy with barely surviving relegation only 4 games into the season then what can I say? You're really getting everything you deserve.
