Haven’t started one of these in a while, so here we go. Rovers face Oxford tonight at the mem. I’m sure it will be a tough game with the decent run of form Oxford are on, let’s hope we are more up for it than when we faced them a couple of weeks ago, we all know the danger that their number 9 possesses. Need to build on the clean sheet and better performance at Fleetwood. 5-2-1-2 again? Worked pretty well at the weekend. COYB.

Good Luck Axe, at least you have the requisite number of posts to start the Matchday thread. Too many Rookies lately, and they wonder why we’re in free fall FFS.

Hoping their winning run coming to an end will be the start of a little winless run that we can be a part of, happily take a point tbh but if we play well I think we can win. Utg!

To be honest when you’re losing games like we are playing anyone becomes a pain in the arse lol hopefully after beating us so easily a few weeks ago they will take us to lightly, catch them early with a goal and defend for our lives! Haha

Go 3-4-3 with Nicholson, Hanlan and Daly up front. Time for Hanlan to stop falling over at the slightest touch. Refs have sussed him out.

With games coming so quickly and 1 goal in 12 I’d be tempted to start Ayunga and give Hanlan a breather. Especially with Daly back fit we can go with the old big man / little man combo and use Nicholson from deeper. If we try and out football oxford we will lose, they’re a better footballing team than us. So let’s go more direct, try and make it a scrap, and try and play in their half a bit and Ayunga’s size would help us with that.
Or we protect Daly and go:
Ayunga Nic - Oz - Mac Grant - Lid Lea - ? - ? - Williams
Rovers do have the habit of surprising us and playing better against good teams but on paper this game only has one winner. Pray I’m wrong though, wouldn’t be the first time!
Snap your hand off for another 0-0.

Nice one Axe, good luck pal
I don't see many changes to the team that was put out against Fleetwood and we certainly need Liddle to gain experience in the league if he is going to be called upon this season following all the injuries... he certainly has a decent opportunity to stake a claim especially with all the contracts up in the summer for the 'experienced' lads. I'm sure Tis will have a long shopping list of decent experienced players he would like come summer, but a decent run of performances from Liddle in the holding midfield role could really give him something to think about for sure.
Grant looked damn good now in a couple of matches and certainly was p!ssed right off we didn't win that game on Saturday, that's the level of passion we love in our midfield generals, so lets hope he steps up again tonight. I talk about these two as I think with our new formation 5-2-1-2 or 3-4-1-2 what ever you want to picture it, these positions hold massive importance in protecting our back line.
We are going to need this tonight along with being stronger in our aerial battles and energetic in the press up top. I saw countless times against Accrington that Daly pressed them so well that the usual key pass from the back from our opponent was rushed and either resulted in balls out of play or a turnover. It is due to this that I am more than hopeful that we can win 3 points tonight.
I'm going for a 2-0 to the gas. That first goal to lift us into a solid performance and then a goal on the counter as Oxford push for an equaliser.
UTG!

Sam Frost suggested yesterday Tutonda may start over Leahy. I think he changed his mind in the post today haha - Despite being leggy Leahy will probably retain his place... or something along those lines. I am DESPERATE to see Dave again but I totally understand why Leahy is favoured and I think he has done well for us this season apart from a few blunders (but look along that back line - they have all had blunders) Either way I'm glad to see that Dave is coming back into contention once again following his disappearance. Canny wait to force the missus and the kids into doing the Conga when he scores! Do do do... we've got Dave Tutonda...

The next 2 home games are massive
I’d definitely start with Hanlan and Daly up top if we are to stick with the 3-4-1-2 formation of late.
We need goals, we need wins and we desperately need these 2 to form a partnership.
Starting with Ayunga up top on his own is asking for trouble.... he’s not ready to perform that role yet.
If we can pick up 4 points in the next 2 I’ll be much more confident of staying up.

+++++++++++++++++++ Day +++++++++++++++++++++ ************ Ehmer ***** Kilgor ***** Baldwin ************** ++++++ Williams ++ Grant +++ McCormick ++ Leahy ++++++++ ********************** Nicholson ************************* ++++++++++ Hanlon ++++++++++++++ Daly ++++++++++
Bench: Jaakola, Harries, Rodman, Liddle, Westbrook, Oztumer, Ayunga
It will interesting to see Jaakola is fit enough to start or still a couple of games away. If fit he would start I would have thought. Let's assume he Is'nt for my prediction for tonight;

Fear we’ll be in for a similar game as we got at their place - we’ll set-up with wingbacks who won’t be able to get forward because their 3 in the middle will dominate our 2, meaning we’re on the back foot for the majority of the match & our strikers become isolated.
But hopefully not...
