Let's be honest the striker options are embarrassing when you consider some of the names we've had in the past. When we received a million or so for JCH you would've expect a better calibre of replacement. The whole recruitment process over the past 18 months to two years has been a disaster. I honestly struggle to believe how anyone connected with Rovers - fan, player, manager, owner etc. - looked at Hanlan/Ayunga/Daly going into the season and thought “yep, there’s the goals we need”. Apart from Ayunga having one prolific season 2 or 3 tiers down, there was nothing to suggest we had even come close to adequately replacing the goals we’d lost from JCH. It was painfully obvious on paper and it’s been painfully obvious on the pitch, unfortunately. We were also trying to Steven Humphrys who went to Rochdale. At the time I thought if we could sign him and Hanlan in the close season we would have had a fairly potent strike force. Humphrys has struggled for whatever reason at Rochdale (think he scored against us at the Mem). Equally I thought Ehmer was an outstanding signing at this level at the time and to me has been the biggest disappointed of all - prone to mistake, slow, and an apparent complete lack of leadership on the pitch.

Humphrys went to Rochdale for whatever reason --- so let's not cry over spilt milk. Our current strike force is young, full of potential and that's it. It was asinine to think these three lads were going to score the goals necessary to keep us competitive. Next season these three guys may well do the business. They will have more experience and will be probably playing in a lower standard of football.

If we stay up and the Dons go down, would like to see Piggott here with our exciting young strikers. Hanlan needs a proper rest.

I wouldn’t be adverse to Guiness-Walker either. Fantastic season at Met Police last year and looked so good against us today.

Piggott's looks like leaving the Dons on a free this summer regardless which division they are in, he's apparently looking to move to a Championship club, if he does then they'll get a player worth £1m+ on a free.

I’m lost with this comment? Me too! Gardening leave is when a person is effectively removed from their job/sacked, but still get paid until they get a new job somewhere else, or are brought back into their original role, I think?

Yep, agreed. I think that the both of us were rather confused as to why anyone would say that about a player that has not really done much wrong and had been playing every match until the last couple. Not the most supportive comment from the person that suggested it.

A typical LPGas negative post, then he wonders why posters find him a negative poster!

Well you dont need to be genius that our three strikers aren't very good when they come up against a reasonable defence. Ayunga is quick and has a hard shot but cannot beat a man one on one. Hanlon finds it difficult to stand up and our "academy graduate" well he needs a good pre season following his injury.
It's a shame we (a) didnt get a replacement in for JCH before we let him go and (b) didn't sign some players in the window other than another full back and a goalie. It seems to be working for Burton. Meanwhile we remain the third lowest scorers in the Division.

The 3 strikers we have got all have potential but don't think any of them are 40-odd game a season players yet. Think all three could possibly develop into 12-15 goal a season players in a couple of seasons but they are not there yet and all three of them are very much learning their trade. Still, we are where we are and there is nothing we can do apart from encourage them and hope with coaching they improve. We all knew the squad was short of one or two experienced players upfront.

I agree, but it doesn't help our situation now. The truth is the club got shot of of too many experienced players. If you want to change your team you do it over 3 or more seasons, not over one pre season

Did you not see how he side-stepped the Accy defender before hitting the post in Tuesday? Or how he pushed the ball one side and went the other against the dons defender before forcing a good save out if the keeper? He was marked very tightly yesterday, and did struggle a bit with that, but the more match fitness he gets the more I like him.
