5 minutes of mistakes that cost us the game:
1) Burton break away down their right but ball still with us. Header back to goalie who comes out of his box as not sure if it will reach box to kick. Terrible kick up by JVS under a little pressure. Defender goes past him to cover empty goal. JVS then goes after clearance and puts 1/2 volley out at nearest point! [JVS dies this a lot; when under pressure he kicks the ball straight out without thinking about distance]. 2) McCormick tries to delay by kicking ball away while out of field and on a booking. The signs were there with this ref in the first half; he was looking for any excuse to penalise our players while letting home offenders off? “Brainless” by McCormick? Gets second booking and sent off! 3) 2/3 minutes later Burton score. First shot (on target). Typical of our season.
Just an aside; apart from Rodman and maybe Nicholson, one gets the impression that when under any kind of pressure, our players when defending, panic too much. We just seem to have “brainless” players in so many instances, even in front of goal. That’s why we miss so many chances.
A game we should have won in the first 45 we lost again. Has happened so many times this season that I don’t think a manager can be faulted.
As someone else said, the luck we create and are getting this season points to a certain inevitability for us?
What a disappointment!
[PS : second goal vs Wigan in injury time was another “brainless” bit of football; giving a free kick away and terrible defending. These points against bottom teams are worth double and spell trouble for us]

That had 0-0 written all over it until the sending off. Its the sort of thing that goes against you in a relegation season. Burton looked average to poor, although I like to think we made them look that way considering the form they have been in.
We have some tough games coming up and another must win against Wimbledon. Maybe we are better off playing the teams mid table and above (Portsmouth, Shrewsbury etc).

Another frustrating night. We create a few chances, can't convert them (we all know why, scratched record) and let a sloppy goal in and cling on for the lose. Nickers clear through. Brandon clear through. Leahy shot. Rodders at the death. No goals.....we are paying the price for our failure to sign an experienced striker at this level and haven't replaced JCH. Smith only has one foot....as fast as he is, you got to coerce him and his like away from goal, not inside so he can shoot unblocked. Goal. Slow and lethargic again in possession, no forward movement, no runs. They played offside first half, but Leahy hardly got forward second. After sending off it looked like they had more players on the pitch than us!? How many times is it opposite when we play v 10? McCormick.....ok, the ref was awful. Inconsistent all night. But you don't give him the opportunity to book you....Luke did and through naivity of youth perhaps cost us the game. We looked broken after that. He'll serve a ban too. Arguably without our best player.....the ref softly books our player to sending off and not theirs.....things haven't been going for us for a while and the one step forward and three steps back is gonna put us in Division 4 and the slide continues.... Poor, tonight. We are a better team than them and played the football first half. But, yet again we are masters of our own destiny and conspired to beat ourselves. Individual and collective errors are costing us matches and we can't find a way out of it.. Wigan and Burton are two nails (in coffin) where we can't find a win in those 4 fixtures. Yet, we've been the best performing team in all those games! Crazy times, indeed... Agree with all the above but we’ve got a bloke sat on the bench for 85 mins , he scored 2 in his last start and looks dangerous when he’s been on for the last 5 mins..... and he wins balls in the air . Play him . Well, yes I agree. But I'm exhausted with the "play two strikers up front" rhetoric. It has worked, Shrewsbury as example, 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 but rarely regularly going back to DC. Pompey, 2 strikers up front concentration on forming link play and runs seems most effective. I like Rodders, Nickers, Oz, but we need the best opportunities to fall to strikers..... don't we? We start with one recognised striker on the pitch and then wonder why we don't score enough goals....like I said above, we are masters of our own destiny sometimes.

I’d have no problem the ref giving McCormick a yellow card for kicking the ball away, if every single ref booked a player for kicking the ball away. But we all know the next game a player will do it and nothing will happen. Because referees in this division are inconsistently useless and are never held to account for the shocking decisions they all make week after week. I can accept referee's being inconsistent , but not the referee being inconsistent in the same game. At least be consistently inconsisitent !

The sending off is really a distraction from another game where we dominated the first half but failed to take our chances. Plus we know our defence usually as at least one mistake a game in them to concede a goal. Barton's got to find a way to get us scoring goals away from home.

We dashboard for ya's (please ignore if you dislike stats) Plenty of positives before the red card with another in form team kept at arms length for so much of the game. We are sooooo much better under Joey despite what the results have been. Soon, when it clicks, someone is going be on the end of a hiding from us. So with Macca seeing read I believe that to be a one match ban so he will miss the trip to Hull which is a shame as he plays a vital part of this new structure Joey has us playing. You wonder if Ledley might sign and fill his boots? Other than that it's Upson, Liddle and Hargreaves OR Westbrooke drops (like the formation change last night) and we add Oztumer/Daly in the attacking role (this is if we want to keep as close to the team and shape as we have been) Other options would be Jonah leading the line and Hanlan dropping slightly back. Be an interesting 2pm twitter refresh on Saturday for sure. Attachment DeletedEnjoy!

I'm not convinced we are unlucky because we have a player rightly sent off and keep conceding silly goals, often in the second half. That's not bad luck. It's just the hallmark of a poor football team.

Being new on this forum and an old got I do wonder if it's lack of discipline at home or school which make members on here resort to personal abuse. Being a sensitive soul I don't like industrial language and while I am admin on a group on Facebook I ban those swearing or threatening others perhaps my standards of behaviour is higher than most but as Capt Tom used to say Tomorrow will be a better day Peace and love All opinions matter but not the abusive ones..Make Gas chat great but remembering this. The morning after the night before and here we are again feeling despondent and fed up.
Another new face and the same pattern of events... a mini period where we look to be progressing and then 3 steps back
I really wanted to believe in this squad, I really did, but it now seems apparent that we will probably be watching this team in League 2 when we return.
Such a bad thing? For me the club needs a good hard look in its own mirror. What went wrong? Why? How can it improve upon the mistakes it’s made? We will be left with an inflated squad, an inflated coaching set up whilst paying off managers no longer with us.
In short, a top end league 1 budget now expected to get out of an even more physically demanding division!
It’s a mess, and could become even more of one if Barton’s court case goes against him
And when crowds return will the pent up frustration lead to a toxic atmosphere or will supporters (like me) who travel long distances to perhaps 10-15 games a season simply find better things to do on a Saturday? Let’s face it, there aren’t many eye watering clashes in League 2 to jump out of bed for.
Looking at the fixtures left I’d be amazed if we avoided relegation now. We’ve had our chance against poor teams and bottled it.
The farce of our inability to structure a balanced squad will ultimately be our downfall.
I’ve said before it’s been a good season to not be watching, but I do feel these players would have benefited from our vocal support. With such a young team, we’ve been bullied too often by really poor teams. That’s been the biggest lesson of all perhaps, you need to build something slowly and retain experienced heads in this division.

We navigate a path through that. Yours is an opinion, but it's one of hundreds. You don't get to demand how the place is run. Your moral stance is not inherently superior to anyone else's.

That's the way it looked like to me, just my opinion. Conceding so soon after going a man down was very frustrating. At least we have looked better defending set pieces but it doesn't really matter much if we cant score.

Two poor teams, one in better shape than the other
Loads of half chances not taken
One bad decision to get the red card
One banging goal to win the game
Nuff said really

Just two wins against the bottom Nine clubs says an awful lot. Poor sequence of results and must admit beginning to worry about staying up now.

I can’t see us staying up ... we have seriously under performed against the worst sides in the division and without a true goal threat we have little to offer.
I only hope now that JB and his team stay with us next year in L2 and help us try and get out of it.
Sadly I think we are stuck with most of these under performing players for another season at least and that will mean mid L2 at best.

Although the sending off changed the game I think that there was not enough action taken to reorganise. We seemed to stick with the same players and the goal came from the side that had been weekened by the sending of.

Just a minor blip, onto Saturday and back on track. You cannot allow for Parks referees in league football. I like what I’m seeing in Joey Bartons Rovers especially the renewed effort we saw occasionally under Tisdale. Rovers do miss that bit of aggression in the middle of the park which Ogogo brings.
