If I’d not watched the game and just saw the score with both sides having had four shots on target I’d have thought we’d given it a good go - especially since it’s one of the leagues worst teams going away to a side pushing for promotion with the best attacking options in the division. But having watched us deservedly go two up but go on to lose is very dispiriting. The ref was generally poor, gave them the benefit of the doubt on most 50/50 decisions but on the big decisions he was right. He gave us the penalty in the first half and he was spot on with Days red card. Two players attacking a 50/50 ball, they were bound to collide and whoever got the ball first was going to win the free kick. Unfortunately, Day was second and the ref had no choice but to send him off as the striker would have been through on goal with nobody to beat. Hopefully just a one match ban? He’s made some important and brave saves recently and is far better and far more experienced than JVS. Beaten by two quality strikes and let down by his defence for the third. If he was poorly positioned for the free kick then every keeper in professional football around the world is wrong too. I don’t think we sat back second half. Both in regard to league position and quality of players Charlton would be expected to dominate. We gave them a right scare first half and they were always going to up their game, it was more their doing than ours that we ended up so deep and penned in second half. Just a shame we couldn’t hold out for a point and the usual stupid defensive mistake, this time by Kilgour, has cost us. Still hopeful of staying up though. UTG. That’s pretty much how I saw it. I do think that if we’d had a bit more experience and a bit more fight we’d have come away with at least a point though ? We’re a soft team that is nervous without the ball and the only fighter we’ve got is a young kid on loan from Chelsea who’s been brilliant in his application and determination whether he’s having a good game or not. That just goes to show how Badly we’re lacking leadership in the core of our team. What worries me is that was obvious right at the start of the season. What a cock up Garner and Tommy made. Tisdale and Barton have had to be pretty much work with what they have.

Our ability to just inexplicably shoot ourselves in the foot at crucial times in matches this season is an excruciating way to (probably) go down.
Talent-wise I don’t think we’re a bottom 4 side, but we’re just an accident waiting to happen.

Tisdale had the January window and failed to bring in that leadership that everyone could see we needed

You see defenders get sent off for pretty tame fouls if its obvious that they’re attempting to prevent a certain goalscoring opportunity. So yes I do. Let’s be honest, if their guy isn’t wiped out he’s heading it past day, getting on the rebound and scoring it an empty net. It’s not about the strength of the challenge but the context. Feel sorry for Day as I said but I’m not going to defend him just because he’s a Rovers player. Do you think Day was attempting to prevent a goalscoring opportunity, or trying to make the header? Because your first line suggests he meant to foul him... I'd need to see it again, but the ball looked like it had gone miles away from him - something referees also take into account usually. Personally I don't feel sorry for Day in the slightest, he's just simply not good enough. I feel sorry for us for having to pay his wages to make mistakes week in week out and come the end of the season he can go back to Cardiff or sign wherever without an issues, whilst we're potentially in L2. Day knew he was caught in no mans land and needed to at least make an attempt to put the attacker off, he also paused for a slight second and went in for the header late. I don’t think its anything cynical and to be honest I can’t blame him for attempting to challenge, just it was always going to be a foul in that scenario if he fails to make contact on the ball and takes out the player instead. There wasn’t too much wrong with his performance, it’s always frustrating when your keeper concedes 3 out of a total 4 shots on target but the first 2 are good strikes and the third is a bit flukey. He blows hot and cold as a player, one week he makes some decent stops and the next he is caught lacking.

Well that was frustrating after being 2-0 up, and perhaps a little expected after letting them back into the game so soon after scoring our second goal; we could have had 3 or 4 first half. I haven't seen any replays yet, but for what it's worth I'm not convinced Baldwin fouled Stockley(?) for the free kick for their second goal. I'm not sure who headed the ball for their third goal, if it was Aneke then surely it was offside (maybe Kilgour did head it, I need to see a replay). Again with Day's red card, did the Charlton player head the ball? Because if he didn't then surely it was a 50-50 collision and no red card! So frustrating, it's so stressful watching these games almost knowing what is going to happen.

We certainly seem mentally fragile and the players almost view dropping points and conceding goals as inevitable as us watching at home.

Garner and Widdrington culpable but Tisdale doesn’t get off Scot free. We look like we’re improving under Barton. 3-6 months ago we’d have got mauled tonight but we were in the game. That’s the most I can recall seeing us take it to Charlton as a Gashead. Particularly at the Valley. That includes a handful of away games at the valley too.

Do you think a Defender would of been sent off for the same challenge? I don't think so. It seems that Referees make up new rules for Goalkeepers, they give Free kicks for them for nothing, but also send them off like tonight for a nothing challenge. I do find it bizarre. You see defenders get sent off for pretty tame fouls if its obvious that they’re attempting to prevent a certain goalscoring opportunity. So yes I do. Feel sorry for Day as I said but I’m not going to defend him just because he’s a Rovers player. I'm not defending Day. All I'm saying is, that if that was Alfie Kilgour or Jack Baldwin making the same challenge, basically a 50/50 ball in the air, I don't think they would of been sent off.

I'm sure he would have signed more if given the choice. From the BP and notes I’ve heard anecdotally he put all his eggs in one basket and got no chickens. Which would be fine if we had a few Rory Gaffneys and Matt Harolds.

I think they would to be fair. Whether intentional or not if you go into a challenge and make no contact with the ball and prevent them continuing in to a clear and obvious goal scoring position then they would get a red. It looked worse and more spectacular because both players were at pace but even if Day had made only glancing contact and the player goes down it’s always going to be a red because he’s through on goal.

Might not have even been a foul but when it’s a keeper and he’s way out of his area and the forward gets to it first it’s hard to argue against a foul. And as he was the last man ( I think - I haven’t watched it back ) it’s probably a fair red card too. It’s a real sh**ter because I think Day has been decent for us overal , he made three very good saves in the game tonight and I think he’s a much better keeper so far for Rovers than JVS has been. If it’s JVS for three games now then I’m worried.

For what it’s worth, and I’m incredibly biased, I think that was an absolutely fair red tonight. If we weren’t given that on the opposite foot I’d be livid.

Disappointing to lose after going 2 up, but sounds like we were unlucky. We're showing more fight and have found where the goal is. Joey needs to keep the players chins up and Clint keep working on that defence!
First caller to 20man saying we should have brought Ollie in 🙄 do people ever move on?
