It will be interesting to see how Barton's comments about Ehmer is taken by the rest of the team, who ironically are the ones who voted for him as captain at the beginning of the season. Therefore Barton saying 'How can that be the leader" could be seen as a slap in the face to the others too and may backfire, although what is there to lose? True but also, they made the vote very early on and it would probably come down to how much of a Captain Leader Legend he has been away from the small widow us fans have been able to see of him. Some may welcome the decision cuz the vote may now have seems incorrect but at the time seemed right. (all before the season started i think) True. very risky tactic though as if he is a popular figure at the club he may lose some of the others, but im sure he would have weighed this up beforehand. Players will know Ehmer has been poor, but still may not agree with the manner of how this was played out in public. Something had to change though and the squad shaken up. Hopefully it works for the better but we will see. Never boring at this club is it!

Calling out a player for poor performance rarely has a motivating effect. In fact usually the opposite. I think everybody has been disappointed with Ehmer. I suspect the player is unhappy also. He came here with a solid L1 reputation and his game has simply disintegrated. If Barton is so unhappy with Ehmer the solution is obvious. Do not pick him again for the rest of the season and hope some other club takes him in the summer.

The only way this 'may' have a positive effect is if Ehmer was a disruptive and unliked individual, although posts ive seen from Gills fans describe him as a lovely bloke so that's highly unlikely. It may be a warning to the rest of the players to either shape up or get out, but id have done all this behind closed doors personally.

In all honesty, it seems completely unnecessary - just say it all to Max behind closed doors. I honestly don't really understand what it's going to achieve? I mean, had Max failed to turn up to the last match and gone AWOL then fair enough. But his behaviour must be appalling to have been singled out in the way he has - what other reason can there be? I mean yes, he's been sh**e - but again why pick on Ehmer? One or two exceptions and they've all been utter garbage. When you read Max's words on Barton's Fleetwood appointment it makes it look like he hugely respects him and even considers him a friend. I appreciate that it could be very much be one-way and not reciprocated by JB (certainly seems that way obviously) but blimey - his words yesterday were pretty much unlike anything I've ever seen! Utterly savage!!

I’m crystal clear in what needs to be done,” he said. “I almost feel like a surgeon who knows the operation, knows what parts of the patient need to be cut out, but there’s a time that it needs to be done and I’ve got to do that in the privacy of the operating theatre. But Max Ehmer, he is f**king sh** The second part might not be an actual quote But simon that's what he thinks, going to be a massive overhaul in the summer, can't see Tommy and joey seeing eye to eye over targets, one of them will have to go and my money's on Tommy going.

Utterly savage!! It’s an old trick which I’ve heard of before. New manager comes in and makes a beeline for the top dog. Whether that’s Max is debatable, given his performances, but he will be one of the higher paid players and is the captain. So, humiliate him, either in public or on the training ground, but enough to make the players sit up and take notice. Hopefully they will not want to be next in the firing line and will duly perform miracles. It is high risk but Max doesn’t seem the type to barge into Barton’s office and have it out with him. Everything I’ve seen, read and heard suggests to me that Barton is running out of ideas and is even preparing the way for relegation. I’m waiting for our wannabe Einstein to state that well known proverb “May you live in interesting times”. or even “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. It’s only a matter of time.

So basically its Penney - Campbell again.... Only this has gone public from the clubs manager and not terrace talk / rumours?
