Seeing as Barton is getting his way I'm expecting promotion back to L1 is a minimum for this coming season. Bookies offering 11-1 for us winning the league.

It’s quite a demeaning role TBF. Getting his own players out on loan and working with the kids. It is indeed a role that screams “we aren’t paying you off but we hope you will resign”
To be fair I got taken in by Tommy. His signing doomed us. It was top ambitious, too much of a gamble and fundamentally lacked strikers.
As for wanting a yes man, he was almost a yes man himself. The vision of youth being the future basically led him to trying to do too much with too little. “Yes I’ve got all these kids cheap but they’re good enough”

Well he's got a degree in Sports Science, organised events for Knowsley Council, worked with Puma as a sales and contract rep. and also with a sports and entertainment firm called Wasserman before becoming Director of Football at Fleetwood Town FC for 18 Months. EP says he's a long term ally of Joey. Read he was a house guest of Joey's in his Bristol digs. Does that CV not cut the mustard ? Basically Joey's mate then. At least Wasserman are a big agency in the football world. But no, what you posted isn't really anything to shout home about in terms of a player recruitment cv. Didn’t Alex Ferguson use his brother as a scout? I don’t really care who it is as long as they deliver results and are trusted by the manager.

I don’t get the blood thirst for Widdrington getting sacked. It’s Wael having to fund it so if he values his contribution so be it.

Hopefully they can build a squad to get us the results necessary for promotion then. Good luck to them. 🤞

Yes widdrington played his role in last seasons failings but so did everyone else involved with team. All 3 managers, widdrington, Starnes, the coaching staff and Wael himself. We don’t know the ins and outs and what goes on behind the scenes so if Wael decides widdrington is needed to be kept around the team and still in place on the board then that is what will happen. I just hope things can be pulled back together this coming season and we can get back to winning ways. If we don’t, we can expect another relegation fight on our hands

Agreed last season was terrible, but the recruitment wasn’t too bad before that. If Joey messes up, we will have to redo everything again. Maybe that’s why Widdrington is being kept around. But still putting a lot of faith in Barton. If Wael were to turn back to Tommy in the event that things go tits up with Barton, then Tommy would be well within his rights to say he wouldn't be sloppy seconds. This situation is so odd! As long as he’s being paid, will he be that bothered??

Seeing as Barton is getting his way I'm expecting promotion back to L1 is a minimum for this coming season. I'm not normally one for that sort of thing but it appears he has literally been given carte blanche to do what he wants so I would agree he has no excuses next year.

That is so odd that just a few hours before this announcement I asked the question where does Widdrington future lie with the club on another thread , it is going to be increasingly difficult for him at Rovers and his long term future may well be elsewhere. He did do some good recruitment work under GC but even then the final say on signing of players would have been with the manager.

Bloody Hell where is Widdringtons self esteem - he has been well and truly hung out to dry and should walk away if he had any pride.
That said we should of sacked him ... bank account topped up every four weeks - win for him.
Hopefully next update see Starnes put into the club shop as a mannequin.

Tommy Widdrington role changeThe Club can confirm that role of Director of Football has been removed from the Club's Board of Directors structure.
Tommy Widdrington will still serve as a Director and will be in charge of outgoing loan deals and will be tasked with ensuring the strategic vision of the first-team is adhered to at both U23s level and within the Club’s Academy.
The move has been made in light of the Club's recent relegation.
Earlier this week, Chris Gibson MBE was appointed to the Club's Board of Directors, as a non-executive Director.
Club President Wael Al Qadi said, "As a result of our relegation and the position we currently find ourselves in, Joey and his team are now fully in charge of the recruitment process. We have therefore eliminated the role of Director of Football.
“Tommy will remain on the Club's Board and will be in charge of creating a loan department, that will be tasked with establishing relationships with other clubs.
"Tommy will also be responsible for mirroring the first-team philosophy, that will be set by the first-team Manager, across the Academy structure.”
FFS Wael, grow some balls and just sack him. This Mr Nice Guy persona doesn’t work in football. You’re in effect continuing to pay someone who’s been influential in our demise over the past 3 seasons.

As was mentioned earlier he is under contract so wael has taken the easy way out and found something else for him to do as opposed to paying him off in a lump sum. Widders could always have declined the offer.

Perfect job for Widders as he brought this sh** into the club its only fair he gets them out again. It will be an interesting season and yes automatic promotion is a must and very early days to see how likely that will be. Fingers crossed we will sign some goalscorers

As long as he’s being paid, will he be that bothered?? There are such things as pride in your work, job satisfaction and ambition. Perhaps TW possesses one or more of these things? If he wasn’t happy, he wouldn’t have accepted the new role??? So that suggests he would still help out, if Barton got sacked. He’s still a director. He’s still working with the club. So now sure why pride would come into it??

I've had jobs I've not been happy with but stuck with it to keep a roof over the family's heads. I guess it's no different for Tommy as he's not exactly going to walk into a similar job. I suspect if something reasonable did turn up then he'd be off.
