Impressive attack on the Crimean bridge if it was Ukraine. In the meantime "Russia has appointed a new commander to lead its troops in Ukraine. Sergei Surovikin is a veteran commander known for leading Russian forces in Syria and was accused of overseeing the decimation of the city of Aleppo." So even more devistation coming. Dangerous times Stuart, not sure how much more humiliation Putin will take before he does something reprehensible. From Michael Clarke and backs up something David Patreus said the other day: "NATO members have personally contacted their Russian counterparts to warn them against a nuclear strike, Professor Michael Clarke, former director-general of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), has said. Asked what the West's reaction would be to a nuclear strike by Russia, the defence analyst said the Kremlin had already been warned of a reaction from the West. He said: "When the tactical nuclear weapon threats were raised a few weeks ago, the US and three or four NATO members personally contacted their counterparts in Russia and in the Russian general staff to say 'don't even think about it'. "They won't tell us what they said and nor should they because there has got to be some uncertainty about this in order to maintain a deterrent but what they seem to have said is first of all 'we will not be passive'. "'We won't just condemn you, we will do a lot about it. Second, we won't go nuclear but we will go conventional and we have the conventional power to hit all of your nuclear infrastructure and facilities. If we even think that you're going nuclear, if we see the preparations start - we might attack you'. "That seems to have been the message." Clarke said while he could not be sure if that was the message sent to Russia "there was a general belief that this is what was said". He went on to say NATO was "making it clear" to Russia that it would be crossing a line if it were to use nuclear weapons and warned it would "take Russia on as a military power by conventional means"."

That's very interesting, all a game of brinkmanship which is ok if the other party is a sane rational individual, not sure Putin fits the bill. It will be a bold move if NATO made a pre emptive strike if they see Russia about to lock and load. It really is a desperate time.

Hitler famously didn't use chemical weapons in the Second World War as he thought we had worse and during the 1990 Gulf War it was 'let known' to Saddam that any use of biological or chemical weapons on coalition forces would be 'returned in kind.' I can't see how or why he would use them myself and the "I'm not bluffing" really means he is, but.......

Pretty much what I’ve already said . If he goes nuclear he’s absolutely f**ked so his yes men will suddenly me no men . Or dead men. Putin will have "a heart attack" soon. Or fall out of a window. He will be ousted and replaced by someone more acceptable and who may back off Ukrane (but keep occupied territory) allowing Russia to keep spoils of war but get the world off its back. It is the only outcome that makes sense.

Defence Secretary making an unscheduled trip to Washington, press suggesting this is Ukraine related.
Also, there has been silence imposed on the battlefield which is thought that it may be a precursor to more action by Ukrainian forces. We have recently completed the second batch of recruit training, when the first batch returned it led to the recent advances.
One to watch.

Looks like a Russian withdrawal from Kherson, but could be a trap. Ukraine certainly thinks so and I wonder where they are getting their information!?
I see the Russian ambassador to London is blaming us for their setbacks, with direct involvement too. Almost a badge of honour.
