This could get very, very nasty if that's true.

Hungary (and Turkey) stonewalling over Sweden and Finland's Nato accessions and EU funding for Ukraine.
They are themselves hoping to receive EU funds which have been held up - coincidence??

Belarus Foreign minister dues unexpectedly. Some rumours he was intending on being a middle man but clearly someone disagreed. "He attended a conference in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, earlier this week, and had been due to meet Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday. "Foreign minister Vladimir Makei has passed away suddenly," news agency Belta reported, without offering any further details. Before presidential elections in 2020 led to large anti-government protests in Belarus, Mr Makei had been among those trying to improve Belarus's relations with the West. He had also criticised Russia. Once the protests began, however, he said they had been inspired by agents of the West. And after Russia invaded Ukraine, earlier this year, he claimed the West had provoked the war. A few days before it began, on 24 February, he promised there would be no attack on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus, before being proved wrong shortly afterwards." news.sky.com/story/belarus-foreign-minister-vladimir-makei-dies-suddenly-state-news-agency-says-12756042

Another oligarch died today, falling down the stairs at his French home. In the meantime: Oligarchs are the elite, wealthy Russians right? Like Abramovich. And now a 2nd has had an "accident". I assume these 2 have spoken out against Putin recently? I always thought the Russian wealthy were all very buddy buddy with Putin.

Funny how none of the original "justifications" have come to pass yet we have millions displaced, hundreds of thousands of casualties and Russia recruiting prisoners as front line soldiers. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Russian_businessmen_mystery_deaths

Zelensky is off to the US in hs first overseas trip since the invasion, probably looking to shore up support as the Republicans tend to be a little more sceptical. Reports he will be getting a token amount of Patriot missiles.
In the meantime, "Since Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February, the US military estimates that at least 100,000 Russian and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or injured, along with some 40,000 civilian deaths. The UN has recorded 7.8 million people as refugees from Ukraine across Europe, including Russia. However, the figure does not include those who have been forced to flee their homes but remain in Ukraine."

Yes read that earlier, the last paragraph is very sobering, can't believe this is happening in the 21st Century,we are going backwards not forwards very dispiriting.

All this for non existent nazis, non existent secret bio labs, non existent Nato membership...... Not sure how this plays out now, do we redouble support hoping Ukraine force a withdrawal? I can't see the total reoccupation including Crimea nor a voluntary withdrawal back to pre invasion lines and definitely not pre 2014. Putin could be overthrown but no certainty of someone better and every chance they would be worse. "General Winter" has yet to appear, that will cause a lot more suffering. Next spring/summer could well be decisive.

Next spring/summer could well be decisive. We have to carry on supporting,he can't be allowed to win or be seen to have won,if he goes back to pre Feb he will just rearm and have another go in a few years time. Perhaps the answer is to force him back to pre Feb lines, maintain the embargo, starve him of the ability to resupply then hope for a better leader when he's gone to negotiate with. Challenges I see are: Will the Ukrainians buy that? Will the West get fatigue and crumble? Will the Russian people but it as there are many who believe that it's all the West's fault. There will have to be a rapprochement or we will be reliving this for decades.
