When an individual can take a tank out at 2km from a shoulder launched weapon after barely a few days training then I think the tank has had its day . We're in a transition period a bit like the mighty battleships that became vulnerable in WW2 once the Japanese had taken out the Prince of Wales and Repulse. There are counter measures available such as APS and tactics will also play a major part, the death of the tank has long been written but is not upon us yet. Yatton - we have 227 officially and possibly a few more in storage, but only 148 will be modernised. During the 80s we had nearly 1,000 including those held in reserve. One of the main reasons the US has so many is to maintain jobs. We bought only what we wanted and then lost the ability to design and manufacture our own, that's why we had to get the Germans to help with the current modernisation plan. I've often wondered why the US has so many tanks. It's not like they're going to be invaded, and they certainly don't need anything like that number for their occasional forays into the Middle East and a few other places.

Coupled with his vindictive, spiteful nature, it is little wonder that Hodges is far from being Walmington's most popular resident. Even kindly Godfrey one said that Hodges was the, "most vulgar and common man I've ever encountered." Thanks 😊

Looks like there is a 'bun fight' for influence on Putin between the Russian MoD and the Wagner Group. Now, didn't another European dictator have a private army?? "The group has around 50,000 fighters in Ukraine, including 40,000 convicts - many of whom have been offered the chance of freedom if they fulfil contracts to fight in the conflict. Despite Wagner's growing influence, US-based thinktank the Institute for the Study of War said the group is likely still relying on the Russian MoD for the use of military equipment on the frontline. It said Wagner is "functioning more as a parasite" than as a self-contained organisation, which its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin is trying to present it as being." According to some reports, Wagner is using the convicts to soak up Ukrainian fire then using their own mercenaries to then fight what's left. "This is a cemetery for Wagner mercenaries near Krasnodar in southern Russia. Krasnodar region is the Wagner Group's heartland. Their training ground is nearby in a village called Molkino. There is a newly built chapel not far away which houses the urns of cremated fighters. And there is space available for still more graves in this cemetery, when the next wave of bodies come home. Wagner is heavily involved in Russia's offensive around Bakhmut and Soledar in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region. Its fighters have died, Ukraine says, in their thousands. Most likely the bulk of those were convicts, sent in to die like cannon fodder and be buried in a Wagner cemetery far from home. Perhaps after time in Russia's penal colonies they no longer had homes to speak of." news.sky.com/story/ukraine-war-wagner-group-suffers-heavy-losses-as-their-boss-yevgeny-prigozhin-steps-firmly-into-the-spotlight-12790830

Some happier news. "A 12 year-old Ukrainian refugee described as an exceptional pianist says earning a place at the Royal Academy of Music is "like a dream". Kateryna Pyshniuk and her mother Anna fled the Ukraine war after a month and live with a host family in Bristol. Kateryna started playing the piano, aged five, and says playing keeps her mind off the war. After arriving in Bristol her musical skills quickly led to her being offered a place at Clifton College. "Its a dream - when I was in Ukraine I didn't even wish that I would study in London, that I would perform in England, learn at the royal academy and Clifton College - it's a good crazy thing," Kateryna said. "It was like a big present from England to me and I really enjoyed it. It was a very happy day for me." She added she's learning a lot from her new teachers but missed her family as well as her former piano teacher, who "inspired" her love of music. Daniel Robson, director of music at Clifton College, said: "It is a joy to have her here, she's a wonderfully talented pianist - so young and she's been through so much but is still a really happy young person." Looks like Germany are going to agree the Leopard 2 transfer at last, rumours the US may do likewise with their Abrams tank.
That's going to cause a big training and logistical issue with so many versions, both the Leopard 2 and Abrams have had several modifications over the years and I doubt the latest versions will be the ones going.
