I don't know about others but I know several Eastern Europeans who have families back home, If I was them I would feel very worried right now. We have to respond or this won't stop at Ukraine.

Well Macron has egg on his face. Thought he came back with a peace deal after meeting Putin. F*cking idiot. He was played ,a Neville Chamberlain moment, this is all so like the late 1930s and yet we haven't learnt, if you look at Putin's speech he wants NATO back to pre 1997 boundaries which puts 13 East European Countries at risk,he's told us what he's going to do and were going to have to step up if he threatens Poland etc . As for Macron been played for a fool, the West needs to look at the hard evidence in front of them and unfortunately start to prepare for a much tougher military stance, history of tells us appeasement never works.

Respond how? The UK has what, 3 nuclear subs, Russia has 51. We have 10,000 troops, Russia has 900,000 with 2 mil in reserve. I doubt if we added everything Europe has to offer we wouldn't stand a chance.

Not that it’s going to escalate like that in anyway.

He either gets defeated or he’ll March on and take all the other previous soviet block countries. It’s sh** or bust. Remember that Trump has been his biggest fan alongside other far right loons like Farage who calls him a genius.

Doubtful with only 26% of the US public wanting to get involved at all . They’ll only join in when the rest of Europe is on the brink of collapse.

The army isn't ready for this type of conflict, it's been allowed to atrophy skills and its equipment is obsolete. On the ground we are outnumbered, outraged and outgunned. The army in 1939 was, relatively speaking at least, in a better shape. We (UK and Nato as a whole) have technical superiority at sea and in the air. Not that this matters, it's all academic anyway...hopefully.

Ahh, ok. So he lives in Brislington. Doubt it, he has an economics degree and 20 years experience, unlike most of us plebs, so would live somewhere upmarket. St Anne's probably. 😃 None of that’s relevant. You’re only all getting salty because all you do is read the paper and think you know it all. Then when something goes against that, you act like little playground bullies. Sadly for you, and club broadsheet, it makes no difference. You could put my windows through and you’d still be wrong. I’ve been to Russia twice, I can speak basic Russian too. If you stated your credentials, my guess all any of you could say is “I read the BBC website”

We are just facing what the rest of the world had to deal with post war. The US has bases all over Asia and Europe and were the dominant power for a lifetime. You should see China now, it makes Britain look like a dump. Ha ha, really, you think? Try communicating on your chosen platform. Try making any sort of statement that is critical of the leadership. Try living in one of their "apartment" blocks. China is a dystopian shithole with a facade of steel and glass. Have you been there? How do you know about these things?

Stuart do you think he will stop at Ukraine bearing in mind his aim is to roll NATO back to pre 1997 I'd normally say he'd stop at Eastern Ukraine with perhaps a puppet government installed for the rest, but his ramblings recently have come across unhinged. Not diplomatic, but Ben Wallace saying he's gone "Tonto" is probably accurate and scary. Sweden and Finland are looking at Nato membership, wonder how this will affect their choices. Edit: Unless the Ukrainian forces capitulate or the government surrenders, 150,000 troops is not going to be enough to take over the whole country, not by conventional wisdom anyway. They'd need two or three times that.
