UK MOD estimates that Russia has suffered half a million casualties so far, grim milestone.
One independent report about the battle for Bakhmut suggests that Russia suffered 20,000 fatalities, mostly ex prisoners under Wagner. Ukraine lost 9,000.

I think we're probably reaching a point where the West is now busy working out how to prolong the war as long as possible. Russia can't afford to lose or withdraw, so it will continue to attack, whilst the West will *just* make sure Ukraine can defend itself, which will keeps Russia occupied for what could now be another 3/4 years. Otherwise why are we (the West) not ending it now by either diplomacy or force...? |

Summit in Switzerland this weekend, Putin has laid out his preconditions:
"Vladimir Putin has set out what he said were Russia's preconditions for starting peace talks with Ukraine.
He said Russia would be ready for such talks "tomorrow" if Ukrainian troops withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk regions and if Ukraine gave up its plans to join NATO.
If Ukraine agreed to those conditions, he said Russia would cease fire and start negotiations."
I wouldn't trust him either. Nothing about Nazis or biolabs. Funny that.
