Given Chelsea are £1.5billion in debt how can they be self sufficient, as wouldn't just the annual interest payments wipe out any TV income? I'm surprised the owners not on the Government hit list, given he's such an high profile Russian. I guess that's what he's worried about hence he's trying to now distance himself from running Chelsea. Indeed Indeed www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59827141I thought he was on the hit list which was read out in Parliament? I did read that he can still fund the club via his accounts in the Virgin Islands, I saw it more as a move to be seen to put distance between himself and Chelsea.

Without the guarantees of funding to cover losses, their accounts (Chelsea) will be qualified at best or not signed off by the auditors. At which point they will most likely be in breach of their banking covenants. It all unravels quite quickly thereafter.

Apparently the Trustees have concerns about taking over the running of the club, and have not yet agreed to it.

Not mentioned as being on any Government list so far, although there is a suggestion if he is ever placed on the list then his assets will be frozen, if they are them hopefully the Government see though the smoke screen he's trying to create at Chelsea.

Abramovich is right at the top of the Navalny 35 List of 'Russian Human Rights Abusers, Kleptocrats and Corruptioners'. This list is taken very seriously in Europe and may influence future EU sanctions against Russian individuals. Abromovich has many valuable assets around Europe including his super yachts which are hurriedly being floated back to Russian ports now, as are Putin's, with whom it has been said he has a 'father and son' type relationship. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navalny_35

Why anyone would have any sympathy for any of the fat cats at the top of the pyramid is beyond me. These people have sucked all of the money to the top together with the chance of anyone else ever winning a trophy. Mr Abramovich is one of the worst offenders in this. Good ridance to him and his like.

They’ve got themselves into a mess through their dodgy dealings and having cosied up to corrupt regimes. They have a simple choice now though - kick Russia out of international football at all levels and regardless of name, or let them win the World Cup by default because nobody (or very few teams) will agree the play them.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich 'trying to broker peace' between Russia & Ukraine, according to spokesperson Abramovich's spokesperson said: "Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since." Roman Abramovich is attempting to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Chelsea owner's spokesperson has said. The Russian-Israeli billionaire handed "stewardship and care" of Chelsea to the club foundation's trustees on Saturday, in a move aimed to protect the Stamford Bridge club. But now the 55-year-old is trying to help bring an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "I can confirm that Roman Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since," Abramovich's spokesperson told the PA news agency. "Considering what is at stake, we would ask for your understanding as to why we have not commented on neither the situation as such nor his involvement. Thank you." Rodnyansky has claimed that representatives from Ukraine's government have expressed gratitude for Abramovich's attempts at help. "I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russia willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution," said Rodnyansky. "They are connected to Roman Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. "Roman Abramovich has been trying to mobilize support for a peaceful resolution ever since. Although Roman Abramovich's influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try. "If this will have an impact or not, I don't know, but I am in contact with Zelensky's staff myself, and know that they are grateful for his genuine efforts." Abramovich stepped back from day-to-day running of Chelsea on Saturday night. He will retain ownership of Chelsea but has handed all decision making to the west London club's charitable foundation trustees. www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12553983/chelsea-owner-roman-abramovich-trying-to-broker-peace-between-russia-ukraine-according-to-spokesperson

Abramovichs Grandparents were Ukranian. Just because Roman Abramovich is a ridiculously wealthy Oligarch doesn't mean he stands with Putin. Utter nonsense Just read an article that If Roman demands his money back out of chelsea they will go bust, lives are more important than football but anciliated things like this may result. He will not have access to that money as all oligarch money is frozen out, this is why he placed Chelsea into the hands of the clubs trust

He is still owner and money has not been frozen out.

I think there’s a lot more to this situation than it just being a case of “Putin bad, Ukraine good”. People are looking at this very simplistically, but ignoring the wider context. The elected (broadly pro-Russian) government of Ukraine was ousted in 2014 by what was basically a coup, backed by the US & EU. Historically speaking, the south and east of Ukraine have seen themselves as closer to Russia, whilst the west and north have wanted closer ties to Europe & the West. As a result of the govt being toppled, pro-Russian separatists in southern and eastern Ukraine started clashing with the Ukrainian military and have been fighting them for the last 8 years, backed by aid from Russia, while the present Ukrainian govt have been backed by the Americans and the EU; they’ve also been trying to join the EU & NATO, which quite understandably has made the Russians nervous, as since it’s inception there has always been the buffer of countries like Poland, Ukraine, Belarus etc between NATO & the old USSR/Russian Federation. All of a sudden the balance changes and NATO is right on their doorstep! I’m not excusing the military actions in Ukraine, but it’s not as simple as people are making it out to be. It’s close to a mirror image of the Cuba crisis but in reverse, it could all have been avoided by refusing NATO membership to Ukraine. The Americans are using their weight to push this, so long as they are not directly involved. Kennedy would not allow nukes in Cuba so Putin is basically doing the same here. There is much more to this than what we are being led to believe and not just about one person.

With Cuba, the missiles were already en route, Ukraine was nowhere near joining Nato. There is no way whilst there remains a dispute over the eastern parts and Crimea. Add to that Viktor Orban would veto membership due to his close ties with Putin. Besides, there is no reason for the US to base nuclear missiles in Ukraine, plenty of other Nato countries do not have them. There is a thread in general chat if you want to join in, this one should be left to the football implications imho.

As for membership of N A T O Putin made his thoughts very clear on this but the agenda was pushed and hard, by the USA. In situations such as these, one has to be careful not to get caught up in the propaganda that is always around, surfing any conflict. I have a couple of extended family who live in lviv but used to be Lwów when it was Poland and seen as the cultural capital of Poland, i had hoped to visit them this year but that is the least of my concerns now and i hope that something can happen to get the madman to withdraw his troops. The Russian people, by and large, are against this but any news is being suppressed. It’s an awful time for all concerned.

Probably not Tilly. The Trustees will be bound by the regulations set by the charities commission and will not wish to be disqualified from holding office there or elsewhere.
