Any more info? I've obviously missed something. He has tweeted something about Putin will obviously give up now FIFA have banned them from football and it is the worst punishment to man. Obviously he is being sarcastic (I hope), but read the room Joey. For a man who like to be seen to be intelligent and well read, I am sure he would see the bigger picture rather than posting flippant tweets on the subject Ah, I hadn't seen that - thanks. I was expecting something a bit more contraversial.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich 'trying to broker peace' between Russia & Ukraine, according to spokesperson Abramovich's spokesperson said: "Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since." Roman Abramovich is attempting to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Chelsea owner's spokesperson has said. The Russian-Israeli billionaire handed "stewardship and care" of Chelsea to the club foundation's trustees on Saturday, in a move aimed to protect the Stamford Bridge club. But now the 55-year-old is trying to help bring an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "I can confirm that Roman Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since," Abramovich's spokesperson told the PA news agency. "Considering what is at stake, we would ask for your understanding as to why we have not commented on neither the situation as such nor his involvement. Thank you." Rodnyansky has claimed that representatives from Ukraine's government have expressed gratitude for Abramovich's attempts at help. "I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russia willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution," said Rodnyansky. "They are connected to Roman Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. "Roman Abramovich has been trying to mobilize support for a peaceful resolution ever since. Although Roman Abramovich's influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try. "If this will have an impact or not, I don't know, but I am in contact with Zelensky's staff myself, and know that they are grateful for his genuine efforts." Abramovich stepped back from day-to-day running of Chelsea on Saturday night. He will retain ownership of Chelsea but has handed all decision making to the west London club's charitable foundation trustees. www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12553983/chelsea-owner-roman-abramovich-trying-to-broker-peace-between-russia-ukraine-according-to-spokespersonUkrainians are not stupid. They know where Abramovich’s loyalties lie i.e. firmly with his ‘father figure’, the one who made him fabulously wealthy and kept the Russian people oppressed and desperately poor. The request for Abramovich to be involved in talks is not because anyone thinks he might be some sort of impartial referee. Abramovich is desperate to avoid losing another big chunk of his fortune following his expensive divorce and needs to present the illusion that he isn’t in Pariah Putin’s pocket anymore. The whole point of sanctioning or threatening to sanction oligarchs is for them to somehow put pressure on the Kremlin Killer in the faint hope that he might have some loyalty to his enablers and compassion for his victims. He doesn’t. If Abramovich manages to stop this appalling unprovoked war then great; he will have earned not being sanctioned, he can take back his football club, have as many visas as he wants and maybe a statue on Maidan. Otherwise it was just a failed stunt and in the future if/when this nightmare ends, he could be appearing in The Hague alongside his master. Abramovich is of Ukranian descent, he is also Jewish like Volodymyr Zelenskyy. But, hey just ignore the basic facts!

I was expecting something a bit more contraversial. Its just poor, and I would think the same of anyone that said it. Given that most of the European football world has stood up and said they wont play Russia in any form, I would have thought some solidarity or being a bit more serious (or nothing) from him Everything right now matters. Football and sport is just another tool to make Russia a pariah state and they shouldnt be allowed to do anything that resembles normality or acceptance

Can't remember Bill Shankly being criticised all those years ago when he said football was more important than life or death. Perhaps if his name was Joey Barton, he would have been!

It’s about context. Shankly wasn’t directly referencing an ongoing war where hundreds of young men, women and children were dying. I don’t really care what JB has or hasn’t said, but your comparison is miles off in terms of context.

Maybe our manager can learn from you. Well, that's me told! I've not been called shallow before. I can indeed be fatuous, it's usually a defence/deflective mechanism when something bad happens in my life. I apologise that it offended on this occassion, in a wider context.

Sorry to hear about your kidney disease and you’ve no need to apologise to anyone for what was clearly a jokey remark which deviated marginally from the outrage and piety circle jerk that is Gaschat sometimes.

I’m being facetious…but of course it’s my opinion. That’s the point of sharing on a forum!

I won't be at tonight's game, but I would like to see some form of support for the people of Ukraine in their hour of need. Maybe a round of applause at some point. Does anyone feel a message to the club may help?
