A friend of mine had a mini stroke two weeks ago. He was sent straight to Southmead Hospital, given a CT scan within half an hour, and results were ready within three hours. I suppose it all depends on the urgency and severity of the case. I frankly wonder if legal reasons come into this. The medics may wish to thoroughly check before making a diagnosis in case of repercussions. Say the wrong thing and they could have lawyers all over it. I was in hospital for a few days before they were able to discover what caused the problem with my heart - it had been damaged by a virus, and I'd also had a silent heart attach a couple of weeks previously (which was a shock to me). They had carried out various tests, ECG, Echo, Angiogram, MRI scan etc before they got to the bottom of it. I then had to spend another week in hospital while they tried out various meds, in order to get me on the right combination and dosage.

So glad you seem to be over the worst and on the road to a long healthy future. Best wishes to you and good luck, although I don't think you need it. You'll be on here writing your scribbles for many more years. Just a quick tip. Might save reading time if you could list the tests you haven't had. 👍

I can add Chronic Kidney Disease to the list, diagnosed last year. Kidneys were damaged by the medication I was taking for Heart Failure - my own fault as I didn't go for blood tests as regularly as I was supposed to, so it wasn't picked up early. On the plus side, last year is was Stage 4, but it's now stabilised at Stage 3. When the cancer was diagnosed, I was practically playing with a full deck. On a serious note, I'd urge everybody to get things checked out if you have any concerns, and if you have a schedule for check-ups - learn from my mistakes and adhere to timetable.UTG and good health to everybody!

I've had my 3 month check-up and heard the magic words "NO CANCER". Check ups every 3 months for the first two years, after which the chances of the cancer returning begin to diminish, so checks will be at longer intervals. I know that I'm so lucky, given the original prognosis, and very grateful for all the positivity from so many people, which spurred me on to fight this awful disease. UTG So pleased for you with that good news. My good lady is a survivor of Breast cancer ten years ago and skin cancer about three years ago. I still tear up when I think of those difficult times and I am so glad we got through it. Fortunately my wife is a positive person and does not let it define her, in truth she’s far more brave than I’ll ever be. So thanks for sharing your experience. Please keep sharing and keep winning.

Couldn't agree more with your last paragraph. My oncologist told me in no uncertain terms just how stupid I had been and how very lucky I was. I knew for years I had a problem and being the typical man was too embarrassed to do anything about it.

Really pleased for you Tilly. Since I have been following your progress/ battle I have also been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. I had no symptoms at all but have had blood tests every 6 months. After a higher than usual result, (PSA12), then a few other checks was told I had cancer and then more checks later that it had not spread. I have had my 1st radiotherapy session today, 19 to go! Everything points to a successful outcome!
Sorry to repeat myself but …….. I had No symptoms at all, only voluntary tests, they have got it early. The tests are not too bad and far better than the potential alternative!

Holding positve thoughts for you. I found the radiotherapy was OK, one of the technicians was a Swindon season ticket holder, so we had some good banter each time he was on duty. I also got my first tattoo, when they pinpoint the places to be targetted by the radiotherapy.
