Lost interest in the FA Cup Final years ago myself. I find all the play off games' semi's and finals more exciting

I’ve always thought they should take away the champions league spot for finishing 4th in the Prem and give it to the FA Cup winners instead. Would make it much more exciting. It wouldn't because you'd lose the prospect of upsets - PL teams would take it more seriously and not rotate. Plus how is it fair when you only need to win a handful of games rather than be consistent all season.

Only ever been to one FA cup final, two if you count the replay. That was the 1970 cup final between Chelsea and Leeds at the old Wembley on my 20th birthday 11th April. Went to extra time and ended 2-2. Then went to the replay at Old Trafford just over two weeks later and that went to extra time, Chelsea eventually winning 2-1. It was replayed at old Trafford because the Wembley pitch was so bad for the first game it was deemed unfit for the replay. Those running Wembley deemed it was OK to allow the horse of the year show to be held on the lovely Wembley pitch a week before the FA cup final. Two blood and thunder games that will live with me for the rest of my life. If that took place today the teams would have ended up playing six a side. Great memories and all thanks to a Chelsea supporting workmate who got several of us tickets and we went to the games in a hired minibus. Happy days when the cup final really was a cup final and meant everything to the players and fans alike.

To be fair, I enjoyed last year’s FA Cup Final immensely as my son was born in Leicester and supports them, as well as the Gas of course. It was a bit of an upset, it was the first time they had won it and you could see how much it meant to everyone involved, including the owner, whose father (the previous owner) had passed away in a helicopter crash since the miracle of 2016. That was almost a proper FA Cup narrative of old. I loved the Coventry and Wimbledon wins in my youth and still remember a lot about the finals from about ‘85/86 to ‘89/‘90. The problem is that in the premier league era, the big money clubs have been able to field second teams in the early rounds and not really care about progress until they get to around the quarter finals, sometimes later than that. This devalues the whole competition really, when those teams can still, like this year, contest the Final, showing the massive gulf in ability and funds between the top 7 or 8 and the rest. Life moves on. It’s sad. I do enjoy watching the Champions League as a neutral so I suppose it’s just the way the game has changed, for worse and better. We have to be very careful to safeguard our game in the next few years as the dangers are there for all to see.

Lost it's excitement after the huge influx of foreign players and owners. I seem to remember it going down hill (in the eyes of many) in 1999, When Alex Ferguson withdrew Utd from the tournament to play in a world club cup thing.. Sometimes these things get muddled up in my brain after all these years though .. My take was always that the FA forced United to take part, in those slimy attempts to beef up their World Cup 2006 bid with FIFA. Taking a Man United squad half way round the world to take part in a friendly tournament half way through a season, with a title on the line, really doesn’t sound like something SAF would do through free will.

It's 445pm tomorrow actually and yes as a Chelsea fan really looking forward to it. Hope the Reds put put the youth team again as the Blues need some reward world champions champions league semi finalists again and having to sale the club its been a turbulent 9 months.
Only fourth place in prem to play for after the Cup final.
Expect Roman to land his private jet near Wembley and sneak in dressed as a Chelsea pensioner.
Will be 2 nil to the blues.

It should be the last game of the season All league matches should have been completed It should kick off at 3.00pm The sun must be shining Tv coverage:- We must have a celebrity It's a Knockout We must have interviews in team hotels Abide with Me!! Players must be lead out onto the pitch from behind the goal to the left of the royal box for the long walk There must be a white horse! Is that it? Yep, that’s about it. UTG!

I agree with so many on here. I used to love the whole day event starting from 11am. First one I remember is Ipswich winning in 1978. Last one I watched all of was 1995. Since then I just can’t be bothered. It’s partly the saturation of footy, the lessening of its status but I also think I’ve got older and generally have better things to do than spend all day watching two teams I don’t care about. I do miss the way it used to be as it was magic, but last weekend made up for it a thousand times over.

Real shame to see the demise of the FA cup, remember being a kid back in the late 80s and getting really pumped up about seeing it on tv. Can't help but think the downturn came once English clubs were allowed back into Europe after the ban and of course the creation of the Premier league, seeing some of the players now they look almost bored to be there..sad but there it is. The 92 FA cup always sticks out for me going up to Anfield and playing Liverpool great memories

Times change and when i was a wee lad the only live match that was shown on the telly was the cup final. ITV would cover the build up at one team hotel and BBC at the other throughout the day, starting at the hotel with breakfast and we would travel in the team coach as they made their way towards the ground - the excitement building all the time . Compare that to nowadays when there is a live match on every day. I have given up watching premier League on the telly as i am just fed up of watching the same teams all the time. I am far more excited and interested in watching the play off matches than ever i am with the top stuff.

I do love the FA Cup, but I'm missing watching the gas already. Same. I’m delighted that we won promotion I’m still ecstatic that we won it the way we did. I’m deflated that I can’t watch them tomorrow.

And no-one's mentioned kick-off times so as to suit......
Do kiddies today say ''Ooooh....I can't wait for 4.45 to come round''?

The magic from cup final day disappeared a long time ago for me. Perhaps the semi finals being at Wembley have something to do with it but also I’ve little interest in premier league going’s on. The only time my interest may peak is if there is a Wigan or a Portsmouth in the final. Lost it's excitement after the huge influx of foreign players and owners. FA cup or your average UK institution?

All league clubs used get tickets to attend the FA cup final.
In the 80's and 90's, I believe the FC gifted the tickets to the SC who held a draw for a lucky SC member and guest to attend.
If the FA still distribute the cup final tickets, I wonder who gets the tickets now?
Still think the club are missing a trick. If a SC player of the year presentation was held in front of the clubhouse from 3pm, with a BBQ and everyday fans had the chance to mingle with the players while watching the cup final, the bar profits alone would be huge.
Plus the shop could have been open selling end of season stock, a 50/50 draw etc
Who would have thought the prawn sandwich brigade happened at Rovers. Only the wealthy get to have a player of the Year event.
While it looked good, did the club actually make any money? The cost of hiring the Concorde hanger must have been mega bucks, then paying for a celeb to do the mc- ing, probably a private PR company to organize it and no profits from the bars.

It's not all about making money Most probably all at Concorde museum except Lindsay Hipgrave contributed loads of poinds to Rovers over the past few years even when games were played behind closed dies due to pandemic. The current squad are in Dubai so not probably except Joey watching the cup final. The ordinary fans were at Mem last Friday at the Tote End 1990 Night of Champions event organised superbly by John Kayes. Seeing Paul Nixon who travelled all the way from New Zealand was price less Great to chat to Ollie too and his team mates including Geoff Twentyman etc

I agree the sponsors have paid lots of money to help the club and should be given their rewards.
I just think it would be nice for ordinary fans to be given the chance to meet and chat with current squad at the present time. (Obviously it would be beneficial if the club made a couple of grand or three as well).
Oh well, when Keysey organizes the belated 30th anniversary in 2054 maybe we can all meet the current players then. (If we ordinary fans have the contacts to find out about the sold out event, beforehand).
