I expect Heal, Egan and Jones will get released, (If they were not released throughout the season) but have we given pro contracts to any of the youth team?
Last season Lawrence and Greenslade were given two year contracts.

Hoole and Gordan could attract interest from better paying clubs. Bolton must have been impressed by them.

Hopefully Hoole wants to continue to make his name here, would be a shame to lose him and I’d want £1m for him if we were to sell

I think That squad under contract are nowhere near good enough for a top half L1 finish let alone pushing on to higher levels. Personally I am hoping that JB is genuine in wanting to improve the squad and has told Loft to find a new club ... I would also add McCormick and Connolly but beyond unlikely that JB will suggest he has made errors in signing these.

Spot on...
McCormick, Connolly, Coutts, Loft etc etc are not good enough for top end of L1 - i'm doubting the majority of others are too - but I'm not a football manager.

We definitely need to upgrade in a couple of areas to challenge, then it’s up to those already here to fight for a place or just provide back up. Wouldn’t let Connolly go yet.

I agree, it's not as though those players have never performed, it's recently and lack of consistency. Whilst several First XI places are up for grabs, they are decent squad members and can do a job. Too much overhauling of the playing staff isn't necessary an improvement.

I am really surprised by McCormick this season, he only seems to get booked and does little else. I know he had a limited pre season which Joey keeps mentioning but that would have only impacted the first month or so of the season surely?

If we are to be a club that develops young players and sells on at a profit, then we need to have some patience. McCormick is 24, Connolly is 21, even Ryan Loft is 25. If these players came through our own youth setup people would have far more interest in their development. I'm not saying we need to wait forever for a player to step up, but I think all three of the above deserve another season and have shown promise (McCormick prior to last season). Genuinely thought Loft came in at the start of last season looking sharp, and was a huge loss he got injured when he did.

Best signing we could make this summer is a reputable defensive coach imo, think could make a huge difference to the existing players along with the inevitable young defensive loanees. I feel many of the goals we conceded could have potentially been avoided if there was a specialist consistently working with the defenders.

Glad i read the entire thread for once as i think the same and i cannot see us taking the big hit that would come with getting shot of McCormick.

The likes of Connolly and McCormick and maybe even Loft have the raw ability and potential, time for Joey and the whole coaching staff to show what they can do. Hoole has grown considerably in the last 2 years so we know they can do it. Cant be throwing money away yet on at least two of these.

I also disagree with some on saying they aren't good enough, players need to continue to be coached. Joey has a lot of work to bring players that are better than the ones leaving, out of contract/loans. We need to bring in players genuinely good enough to be starting every week.

I get that it would be nice to develop Connolly and McCormick and Loft - lovely ! but there is not the time if we are genuinely looking to improve as quickly as this next season ....
All are great guys i imagine but in the games i attended - (every home game and a dozen or so away)
Connolly at times looked absolutely awful : when passed the ball he looked scared to death - even Belly used to shout at him to move it quicker rather than roll it along the back line. Stumbled around in the box at corners causing mayhem and lost his man in numerous occasions. He will need an absolute rock next to him constantly encouraging him and telling him what to do. Unless he improves dramatically he will be a huge liability in our defensive line.
McCormick - Just didn't see anything of him at all, even in the small cameo performances - maybe JB can get him fired up as i do remember an energetic raw young talent that ran his heart out for us when first here. Would love him to come good.
Loft - Hard working, tough, can give it as well as take it - good for a scrap but not a skilled striker - Personally I think he could make a superb Centre Half - Genuinely.
