I get that it would be nice to develop Connolly and McCormick and Loft - lovely ! but there is not the time if we are genuinely looking to improve as quickly as this next season .... All are great guys i imagine but in the games i attended - (every home game and a dozen or so away) Connolly at times looked absolutely awful : when passed the ball he looked scared to death - even Belly used to shout at him to move it quicker rather than roll it along the back line. Stumbled around in the box at corners causing mayhem and lost his man in numerous occasions. He will need an absolute rock next to him constantly encouraging him and telling him what to do. Unless he improves dramatically he will be a huge liability in our defensive line. McCormick - Just didn't see anything of him at all, even in the small cameo performances - maybe JB can get him fired up as i do remember an energetic raw young talent that ran his heart out for us when first here. Would love him to come good. Loft - Hard working, tough, can give it as well as take it - good for a scrap but not a skilled striker - Personally I think he could make a superb Centre Half - Genuinely. Thats £200k-£300k+ in transfer fees down the drain then, plus at least one years wages for each to pay up. Maybe Joey should tender his resignation if he has made 3 such expensive errors? They can be squad players (maybe a loan for Loft) to prove they can compete.

I expect Heal, Egan and Jones will get released, (If they were not released throughout the season) but have we given pro contracts to any of the youth team? Last season Lawrence and Greenslade were given two year contracts. I thought Heal was given a 6 months contract at the start of the season to prove his fitness. He was injured most of last and couldn't show what he could do! Can't find anywhere if he was let go at the end of it or if it was extended....will find out in a few days! As for Jones he has done well at Hungerford alongside Jed Ward....big step up from National League South to League 1 so can't see him being offered an extension....shame as I thought he had bags of potential!

I think JB has made a gaff with some of the signings and the length of contracts rewarding people from last season who haven't been up to L1 standard - he will know that though and will be telling them. Fully expect those that don't step up to be moved on in the January window. As regards resigning - No way would I want that - some of the football he has brought to us has been the best i have seen in years - ( some of the defending also the worst but that will improve with experienced hard men through the door) - Life is never dull under Joe !!

I guess Evans would be one of your examples? He was brilliant in the promotion season and although everyone wanted him to stay we all expected him to leave for better things. He shocked us all by signing a long term deal. This is where the club can’t win. Some supporters want players tied down under contract so we can draw bigger transfer fees if they are sold but also don’t want players to be given decent contracts. The club needs to recruit a psychic to the staff.

Why wait until the January window if they are not up to it by August surely they are never going to be up to it at Rovers? As far as Connolly I can't say I'd call Taylor a "rock" who constantly gave Connolly instructions, perhaps he just needs a more reliable CH alongside him? Although if JB does sign Gibson this summer then I'm not really sure where that leaves Connolly, as he's clearly not up to playing alongside Gibson's at CH.

Cheers for that. Do you think that is his standard or do you think he could have been a league 1 left back in a few years? I thought he looked a good prospect in an FA Youth Cup defeat and probably the only bright spark that night, but subsequently suffered injury problems. He was training with the first team during Garner's tenure and he liked him. Hopefully for Heal he can get some game time in non-league and impress enough to work his way back up the pyramid.

And hopefully majority don’t want to give up on them too soon. Connolly especially I think will be a good back up CB and prove to be the player we saw in the 2nd half of 21/22 season. McCormick I hope but have no idea if he will come good again

I think it's partly confidence with Connolly, and an experienced head back there would help him a lot (or a Connor Taylor, who is mature beyond his years).

Sheffield United prodigy and former Derby County loanee Will Osula reportedly on radar of Bristol Rovers.
Sheffield United prodigy Will Osula is reportedly on the radar of League One side Bristol Rovers.
The 19-year-old is yet to establish himself in the first-team at Bramall Lane and made 21 appearances on loan at Derby County last season. He was recalled from his loan in January and made two league appearances for the Blades in the second half of the season.
Bristol Live understand he features on Bristol Rovers’ longlist for the summer transfer window. With experienced figures ahead of him in the pecking order at Sheffield United, it does not appear unlikely that he could be given a chance to impress out on loan during the 2023/24 campaign.
The Danish forward recently scored a hat-trick at under-21 level for the Blades, playing a key role in their demolition of Bristol City. He also appeared as a substitute in the first-team’s final game of the Championship season, a dead rubber clash with Birmingham City.

Looking at his Wikipedia, he scored 2 goals in 16 games for Derby in League 1. Both coming in the same match against Accrington Stanley. He also scored 3 goals across 3 FA Cup games, all coming against Torquay in the first round away draw and replay win at Pride Park. Both these opposition teams were relegated. On these stats alone I wouldn't say he was an upgrade on Josh Coburn, but if he spends less time being fouled to the ground it could be better to watch!

Idris El - Mizouni …. Ipswich town and been on loan at Orient.
Allegedly a person of interest.

I’d be going for Matthew Pennington of Shrewsbury. Solid at the back, scores a few goals, experienced and out of contract this summer.

I'd imagine most of L1 will be interested in signing a player who played a full season for table topping Leyton Orient and is now likely to be surplus to requirements at newly promoted Ipswich. If they now want to sell him, rather than loan him out again, they'll probably want a decent transfer fee.
