Just saw an advert for 6 nations sponsored by Guinness with the tag line "never settle" which I thought was quite clever.
Closer to home, there was an article saying that City's women team are hoping for an average 7,000 crowd at AG next season.
Hopefully the club will help promote the Gas Girls more next season and they can continue the rise up the leagues.
Who knows, if the popularity continues the Gas Girls may be playing in the top women's league at the fruit market stadium.
In the short term it would be good if they could play a game or two at the Mem next season.

Money talks and professional sports women now have the ability to train and develop as well as their male counterparts.
Hence a more watchable product, more supporters, more money, etc.

Meanwhile, with greed being at the centre of all things FIFA, the big child aptly named Gianni INFANTino says the equivalent of “well it’s my ball and we aren’t playing if I don’t get it my way” by potentially not broadcasting the women’s World Cup as he wants more money than is being offered… I mean, I’d like Rovers to sell James Gibbons for £1m this Summer but he isn’t worth that and it therefore won’t happen. Market value and all that!! www.independent.co.uk/tv/sport/fifa-world-cup-women-gianni-infantino-b2331180.html

What league are the gas girls playing in these days Looks like they just missed out on promotion from the SW premier They were top once they finished their games but Torquay took enough points from the games in hand to win the league. Only 1 promotion spot guaranteed as I understand it. Great season again tho. And for the development side. 👏

Congrats to Gas Girls on another great season, just missing out on top spot, sure they will go on to win the league next season and continue their climb up the pyramid, believe i am right in saying that Rovers were pioneers in the women's game before morphing into Bristol Academy and Bristol City? Will be interesting to see if Bristol City's hopes of 7000 materialise, you don't always get what you hope for in life! Meanwhile hope Gas girls get support they need and deserve as they strive to join the big boys ,sorry girls!

Your right the original Gas Girls were regulars in the top division 20 odd years ago and I believe played a couple of WFA cup semis including losing to Arsenal at the Mem in front of about 3,000. When the club was in serious financial trouble (when are we not!), we could no longer afford to subsidise the Girls and they moved from playing at Cossham St and became Bristol Academy. I believe when they got back into the top division again, Lansdown rebranded them.

A lot of England euro winners will be in opposition. I don't think the crowds will be there to watch City per se, but I am sure a lot of Arsenal, Man U, Man City etc mens team supporters from Bristol may go along for novelty. No doubt there will be the occaisonal free entry for City and rugby fans, and for Uni students, plus a lot of hype from the marketing dept and press and the men's team will turn up to support and sign autographs and plug more merchandise sales. Would not surprise me that for the top games they get several big gates.

Not sure about the pitch part but as for crowds. Perhaps a bears/city season ticket will also include entry to city womens games. Pantsdown obviously pushing for Rovers to be the 3rd biggest football team in Bristol and 4th biggest sports club. Part of his nobody will know who we are campaign no doubt.

City's pitch is a desso hybrid (I believe some real grass, some artificial).
Whereas we spend a few hundred grand digging the Mem pitch up every year and not let it settle, they paid big bucks to get it laid and then only have moderate costs each year to keep it in good condition.
Obviously if we are moving in 5 years, unless we can relay a Mem pitch at the Fruit Market, it would be a false economy to get a desso one now.

Playing up to 4 games a week, if City have mid week games, still seems a lot for a non artificial pitch.

And for the development side. 👏 Unlikely but if one of the promoted teams from the other leagues doesn’t decide to get promoted or they fail the requirements to be able to play in the higher league (things like stadium criteria etc) or a team in the higher league withdraws then the girls still might have a chance to be promoted… what they have shown this season though is that they are more than good enough to play at the level and if not the level above…. In terms of what level they are at , they are currently step 5 I think which is equivalent to National League in the men’s game and if they got promoted I think they’d be going up to the equivalent of League 2…. City Women just got promoted this season out of the championship so will be going into the women’s premier league… If you think that it was only 2018 or 2019 (I think) the Community Trust re set up the women’s team and it is entirely ran by volunteers, it’s amazing progress and a fantastic achievement to get to where they have… Mavis , Nathan and the coaching team deserve a lot of recognition as do the Community Trust and Supporters Club ( and a few other local firms) that have sponsored the 2 teams (1st and Development Squad (who have done equally as well))…. I’ve watched a few games this year and they play fantastic football and the games are genuinely good watches 👍

The issue we’ve had is drainage and blocked drains meaning too much water that seeps to surface causing the pitch to be overly soft and cutting up each game. Our excessive wet weather this season has exacerbated the issue. Even on hybrid pitches you have to dig up and re-seed every off season as part of the regular maintenance . The challenge is City have a modern stadium with newer and cleaner and better drainage whereas the Mem still has drainage from Victorian times underneath it and we can’t do anything about that really….

How do their ticket prices compare to ours? Currently it’s free to watch the gas girls - I think it’s something like £5 or £10 to watch City’s women… but we play at Lockleaze sports centre and city at their training ground or in Ashton gate

Awful pitch as I recall and we were well beaten.

Can't remember much about the game (think we lost about 4-1) but think it was an early ko and the punk band The Vibrators were playing in Dagenham's bar that evening. The bar was plastered with posters for the event. At the semi final game at the Mem, they had all the stars like Rachel Yankee but Helen Done had her in her pocket. Think we lost 3-0 but it was 1-0 with about 10 minutes to play. In truth we never really looked like scoring but the manager Tony Ricketts (ex Bath) organised our defence really well.
