I don’t think there will be any cameras although I’m sure there may be some clips and photos on their website in the coming days. If he has a later start time Tues and Weds I might try and pop up and see how he’s doing. It’s a big ask going from one pro career to another, I think Jimmy Bullard, Roy Wegerle and Julian Dicks all tried. Cricketer Peter Trejo is also giving it a go at the moment. From what I’ve read Rodders came close to a golf career in his teens before reverting back to football. Good luck to him. Random fact about Julian Dicks. He once scored 87 goals in a season for Boco Boys in the Hanham Minor League and in the same team was Mark Cooper (who went on to score the winner at Eastville in the Minor Cup Final). Useless fact over. As you were. …..and his brother probably had 87 red cards in a season!!!

Just on the note or expensive transfers out, when we sold Marcus Browning to Huddersfield for 500k (in about 1998 was it?) me and a few mates thought that was good business and we mugged them. Browning was a reasonable player but half a mil back then was a lot of money.

I played a pre season friendly against Grantley and he was wearing a bin liner and a jumper underneath his shirt! At one point we went in for a block challenge and it must have looked like a 4 v 1 on a newtons cradle as I went backwards about 2 feets!

Browning was a reasonable player but half a mil back then was a lot of money. Saw Gravy for Wales v Holland (Bergkamp, van Hooidonk, Seedorf etc etc) at the Arms Park. At half time it was 2-1 to the Dutch and Seedorf hardly had a touch as Gravy was man to man just running after him. They took Browning off after 55 mins and Holland then went on to win 7-1.

I think we probably need to thank Big Mal for that price tag, he really bigged Marcus up when he was our Manager, built his midfield diamond around him I seem to remember.

Converted him from a striker to midfielder as I recall. I think he still lives in Dorset and was working as a window cleaner. He coached Wimborne’s youth team in the Junior Premier League a few years ago - his son was a decent midfielder and played alongside my nephew.

Not quite on thread, but Malcolm Allison described Marcus Browning as a great athlete, a real athlete, on many occasions. I am not a great fan of horse racing or betting but I was pushed to have a bet on the Grand National in 1995 and saw the name Royal Athlete. I thought of Marcus B and bet away, thinking I had wasted my £5. Anyway, the horse won, at 40-1 according to google. I enjoyed spending my winnings and am sure I toasted the health of Marcus and Big Mal on more than one occasion.

Will always remember that goal at Villa Park though

I would love James Wilson to replace or play with Collins after his contact expiration at Port Vale. A really gifted player with good technical ability.

He was on course for a place on the Football League list as ref was fast tracked I remember reffing a match at Whitehall for Bristol inner city academy v a Dorset side U15s and Browning was their first team coach No idea if he continues to ref matches.

He can't be that gifted if PV have released him given that they've hardly set L1 alight this season? James Wilson is a class act and very good centre forward but sadly injuries have held him back. Looking at some of the messages following the announcement it's clear he's held in high regard at Vale. "One of the most talented players to pull on a Vale shirt for a very long time." "Good luck James, really sad to see you go. You are a class number 9, one of the best we’ve had." "If it wasn't for injuries would be up there with the best strikers in the league. Definitely up the there with the best players I've seen down vale" "Absolute legend, one of the most gifted players I’ve seen in a Vale shirt. Thanks Willo for the pleasure, talent and goals you brought to Vale and all the best for your future."
