Genuine question, why would anyone want to watch gas v S*t anyway? A so called friendly match at the mem fighting all up Gloucester Road etc etc or at prefabricated Ashton soulless arena, fighting In Ashton park and the city centre. Like someone said on here it’s a lose lose for us. Let’s play them in a competitive match a cup game or league (one day you never know) No good can come if it, only injuries to key players.

Who wouldn't want to watch a team play its local rivals if the fans could just behave for one match?
It would be an ideal game for a Nick Anderton fund raiser altogether it's unlikely to ever take place because of the potential for crowd trouble.

Completely agree. Wouldn't be a friendly. Danger of Injuries and let's face it they are light years ahead of us and we'd get pumped. It's a no from me. So we shouldn't play friendlies against any Championship or Prem side? The only issue is the minority of people who want a punch up. Make it a mixed crowd, that way families and friends can sit together and prevent the segregation that turns normal people into complete chimps. Great idea, mix the city and rovers firms together, Chuck them some scrabble and monopoly games and insist they don’t leave until they’ve bonded.

You say you are gas but there is a Chippenham red on that lots place yet you cannot remember the glos cup games but i did ask you age group and you intimated you were older. They were sometimes dodgy but always great to watch, especially if we won.

I don’t think there is any such thing as a friendly between us and the 💩.
I remember the pre season Gloucestershire cup finals, they were always competitive affairs too. The bragging rights mean there is no quarter given on either side. Exactly the way it should be too.
Sadly, because we haven’t had a proper Bristol derby in 20 years, it’s been lost on a generation of fans and management who probably used to watch the games with keen interest. Even our owner probably has no idea how vociferous and passionate it is.
There’s a reason why the Derby always got a sky sports billing was because of how tasty the games always were.
One of my favourite derbies was still Beadles last minute equaliser at the gate as well our 2-0 win at the Mem in 99/00 season. Probably as I’m slightly too young to remember the 2/5/90 and never went.

My first game was Gas0-2 Brighton 31/1/1970 br]I’m 62 years old and I believe no good can come out of a pre season friendly against the City apart from violence before possibly during or after a match like this, and like I said injuries to key players.

What was good about the Beadle equaliser game was that for years and years we had to deal with hoarding being ripped up, players being threatened in their homes, just the full force of the nasty little fks they have assaulting and vandalising our fans and ground, and then gloriously, on national TV they were completely exposed as the criminal gutter trash they were.

I can still see a chubby geezer run past the horse corden towards us only for a copper on a horse to spin around gallop after him and whack him straight across the arse with his asp, then seeing this guys legs overtake his head twice 🤣🤣

Thanks for clarifying nickchippenhamgas i did not feel the syntax in posts was similar but it just seemed odd is all. Thanks for clearing up the Glos cup stuff as i was sure we had exchanged words about it, previously

Remember the Glos Senior cup games well.Geoff Bradford,Alfie Biggs and John Atyeo for the other team.We also had a charity game where we combined with the other Bristol team and wore red and white quarters. We also played Swedish champions Djurgarden at Eastville in a friendly but strangest memory was when the city borrowed our kit for an FA cup game at Ashton as both their first and change kits clashed. In those days the home team had to change in FA Cup games if there was a clash.

Always loved reading and hearing stuff like that and would always be around the older guys, at half time, at Eastville. Good times. My father was of the opinion that Ateyo was the best player of all from Bristol

Correct, he was born in Dilton Marsh and attended school in Trowbridge. Obviously a very level headed chap, as I believe that he twice reverted to a semi-professional whilst with City. Firstly to train as a Quantity Surveyor, and towards the end of his career in order to undertake teacher training - which became his profession. He used to sit just in front of us at Twerton Park (he wrote a column for the local Sunday sports paper), an absolute gentleman.

I know I was in his class. There were three of us in the class who were Rovers. Ateyo used to finish his lessons with, "ok, any questions?" The three of us got together and agreed to put the same question to him if picked, we got picked:the question was "Sir, how did you miss that penalty against Brazil?" He smiled but we could tell it irritated him but to be fair he answered "You will have to ask their goalie that" We had a follow up, "But Sir, Geoff Bradford didn't miss against Denmark" (it was Denmark wasn't it) But the bell went. He did seem a nice bloke though

That was one of the sweetest moments in my rovers supporting history. In the weeks building up we had to put up with the usual sleeping giant crap. I think they had just built the Atyeo stand. It was live on sky (Which was unheard of for a third tier match). The post were lapping it up posting pictures of what a satellite dish looked like. Then you had Baldrick on the pitch before the game hyping it all up. It looked like they had found the promised land they were showing the whole of the country how great they were. Then beadle steps up and completely bursts their BS bubble. It was a lovely goal too. you had what felt like a couple of seconds knowing we were going to score before it hit the back of the net. The elation I felt. Then I could just see all the city fans emptying down the gangways towards the pitch. I seem to recall someone quipping that's the fastest I've seen Pritchard run. Brilliant day. I think for people who didn't experience the derbies in the 80s and 90s you don't realise how nasty it was. It certainly wasn't a minority of city fans. Maybe attitudes have changed but I don't think so and I can understand why the police don't want it to happen. The pre-season is for getting players ready for the season not settling scores
