The police have a say on friendlies? Wow. But if it was a cup match or same league, they'd have to deal with it..

If we can't have a game lets have a bout, Joey in the Blue corner Nige in the red, wonder how that would pan out?
On a more serious note it would be great to get a friendly game on!

Not sure that they can but they can insist on policing it both inside and outside the ground which the hosting club would have to make a large contribution towards.

Not up to date but you will get an idea of how police costs work at football matches. www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/cost-policing-bristol-city-bristol-1841307

Assuming it's at AG and it will be a sell out then the clubs between them should be able to afford the police bill? Alternatively why not play the game behind closed doors and broadcast it live on iFollow?

Alternatively why not play the game behind closed doors and broadcast it live on iFollow? I think the last time we played a pre season friendly was during the Atkins era. It was planned to be staged at Ashton Gate but as the planning proceeded they realised that due to Summer concerts their pitch wouldn't be ready. The game was switched to The Mem and we lost money on the fixture after paying the police and expenses. The police actually supported the fixture being played as they wanted to use it as a training exercise. A shame that we paid for it.

yet these are organised protests with full backing by our finest. So by rights the organisers should foot the bill

We played them for Carey’s Testimonial at AG in 2012.
Low crowd, knock about game, got smashed 3-0. I was at the mall being dragged round the shops, damn sight better way to spend a day than entertaining a ‘friendly’ against that lot. Hideous idea IMO.

Was a awful day, seem to remember quite a full away end though and plenty of people up and at it. Our young winger getting a kicking and barely ever appearing again.

Was that the game where Rogvi Baldvinson or whatever our Faroe Islands international was called made his one and only appearance before leaving again about 5 days later?

Danger of Injuries and let's face it they are light years ahead of us and we'd get pumped. It's a no from me.
