My parents moved from Winterbourne to Portishead a month before I was born . Remember going to my one and only cricket game at Taunton as a kid , Ian Botham Joel Garner etc …… I wasn’t exactly hooked as I was only interested in footy but decided then my cricket team was Somerset. Been meaning to go again for yrs but never got round to it. Maybe this summer ? I grew up in Winterbourne. I remember Phil Purnell joining in with a kick about with us kids at the Rec while visiting his parents who lived around the corner. I’m sure he played for Winterbourne cricket club for a while even during his early football career (but could be wrong about that). Caz May is related to Phil Purnell, just saying.

Phil Purnell did indeed play for winterbourne along with my brother. Phil is a good friend of my family, good cricketer in his day ! 💙🏏⚽️ I remember reading that, after leaving Rovers, Nick Tanner had arranged to visit Phil (I think he might have been going to watch him play cricket. Nick asked if it was okay to bring a friend along - Phil was gobsmacked when John Barnes walked in. yes remember that well! The players of that era were regular visitors at my mothers house! 💙Utg Happy memories 🤩

Cricket ? I played for St.George, my Dad for Hengrove, Brislington, Imperial, Robinsons and many more. The last day of the Ashes in Cardiff with Monty Panesar batting was (almost) as good as last year's 7-0, but it still isn't Gas. Old Georgians? I briefly played for the Youth Team. I think Bernard Hall played for them !🤔🤔🤔

He did indeed I remember playing against him and as at the time being a young lad and a bit excited to play against a Rovers player I tried to launch him out the ground first ball, didn't end well for me. Do you, by any chance, remember a big lummox called Steve McCennerey AKA Mac, he played wicket keeper for winterbourne and , prior to him marrying well and now living abroad, used to be a close friend. Proper Keith Moon type character also for purdownpoacher1 thanks Hi KP The name dosnt ring a bell🤔 Keith Ford/ Martyn Williams were the wicket keepers I remember! 🏏🏏🏏💙Utg

Ah great some news on the stand then...oh no, just people talking about feckin cricket. Move it to General Chat! The two can be related. Assuming no slip ups, the starting point can't be long off. The new roof will give cover, the sides extra cover. The segregation in the mid can be on or off, changing the rows by one, two or even a third man. Sorry

Yep suggest if anyone else wants to keep talking about cricket they start a new thread as it isn’t everyone’s bag and isn’t on the topic here of new stands in a football stadium.
