Watched it and thought it was decent. Inter were great. Aggressive, mischievous and really unsettled the typical Man City play. WRT an English club etc. It's not is it? Foreign club, money, owners, manager, players, with a ground in England. The whole Premier league as an institution is a sell out. From an English perspective, even though there's not many of them, in my opinion, winning tournaments like this can only be a good thing for the national team. The more players we have reaching the finals and winning major club tournaments the better. Oh yes and giving young players the chance to play against men in a cup competition will improve English players! Pizza time.

Have you checked how many English players played for Liverpool in 1984? Had a look. Mainly UK players but minority English. 2004 is when the club was sold to foreigners. The state of that leagues ownership is embarrassing imo. Billionaires playground.

No united in 99 but well done city. Amazing team, deserved that even if the final was a bit dull. Dull, really ? I guess we all view things differently but, for someone who normally never has interest, i thought it was a great game and and Citehh were very lucky to win. Great to see though

Spoke with the hippy from FGR for maybe 5 minutes , if that and he said English players are much more expensive, i couldn’t get into it as my knowledge is very poor with this

A lot of talk about how much Pep has spent at City since hes been there.
Chelsea, Barca and Juve have spent more. United spent 7m less.

Apologies for changing the subject but I found your usernames player, a real joy to listen to, keeping it real innit bruv 😂 I remember him when at Citehh, staying at a local fuel station and staying there for around 2 hours, paying everyone’s fuel. He also had circa 15K on him and the Police asked him what he had so much on him and his reply of because i am rich, still makes me laugh even now. Seems the powers that be did not like him being incredibly kind

Remember them having a torrid time and the united fans absolutely loving it. Remember the city centre being rammed, for them and Newcastle but i never saw any aggro.

WRT an English club etc. It's not is it?Foreign club, money, owners, manager, players, with a ground in England. The whole Premier league as an institution is a sell out. In an ever-changing world it’s the nearest you’ll get. It plays in an English league, has predominantly English fans watching them, so yes it’s probably the nearest you’ll get to one. And of course you’re probably right about the PL being a sell out to the richest owners/countries etc. But you need to be careful (not you gh79) but generally what you wish for. If you try to turn the clock back and make teams that qualify from a country’s top league have a team that’s determined by nationality then I think that would condemn English clubs to being second rate and not part of the elite. And whilst us BRFC a fans might not think that would be important I think it probably would be. Money, players, ideas all filter down to us in the end. (Not as much as we would like obviously!) I’m afraid that stable door was shut when the PL, originated by greed, forgot about the pyramid of clubs that got left behind in the EFL back in 1992. Ever since it’s been a losing battle to maintain the old stuff. I think previous qualification rules also included the need for players to have come through clubs’ academies and that was the reason why clubs started filling their academies with foreign youngsters, which has had an impact for youngsters. But, remember halifax was right, the best ever European Cup win was Celtic (also against Inter Milan). Went 0-1 down early on and then proceeded to batter them before winning 2-1. The ‘Lisbon Lions’ with all their players born within reach of Glasgow were a great team. But it will never happen again with such a home-grown team. Truly remarkable. UTG! ps. I agree with you it was a half decent match. I enjoyed it and whilst I have no affinity to Manchester City I am pleased they won. They play football the way it should be played imo. And good to read what others said about the myth it’s money that does it. Money is important obviously at that level but despite what Liverpool and Man U say over the years they’ve spend more than Man C in one case and just under from the other club. The difference has been a manager who’s innovative, creative and plays the right way. He even gives younger players from their academy a chance to play first team football. Something I wish BRFC would do more of! 😉

Yep, was making more the point that United fans are saying Peps bought the League etc and they've spent pretty much the same in the same time frame and are so far away from where City are. In that time City have finished above United every year and got further in more imporant trophies accumalating in more prize money. As you said also recieved decent fees (572M as opposed to the 268M United have recieved).

That's 15 years. They were miles behind, so had to spend big early on to catch up. Their net spend is less over the last ten years though and less since Pep took over.

For the 0-0 didn't we have Mark Smith and Mike Trought at centre backs, both teenagers. Probably Trees and Challis at full backs. Very young team. Also remember being cheated when Justin Skinner scored a disallowed header for no reason in the league cup at Maine Rd in a draw up there in the early 90s.

We did really well in international competitions during that era !!!
