I think some would like to get back to the days when there was a higher percentage of English players, say 1992 to 1994 for example. We did really well in international competitions during that era !!! 94 went well.. Players like Earl Barrett, Keith Curle, Andy Sinton, Andy Gray, Geoff Thomas, John Salako, Carlton Palmer under Graham Taylor…….great days !!!

Got a hard fought 0-0 at Maine Road that season with one of our youngest ever sides and also drew 2-2 at the Mem live on Sky towards the end of the season. For the 0-0 didn't we have Mark Smith and Mike Trought at centre backs, both teenagers. Probably Trees and Challis at full backs. Very young team. Also remember being cheated when Justin Skinner scored a disallowed header for no reason in the league cup at Maine Rd in a draw up there in the early 90s. Back four of Stephane Leoni (22), Steve Foster (23), Mike Trought (18) and Trevor Challis (23). Rest of outfield was Lee Zabek (20), Jamie Shore (21), Rob Trees (21), Guy Ipoua (22), Jamie Cureton (23) and Jason Roberts (20). Average just over 20.

That's 15 years. They were miles behind, so had to spend big early on to catch up. Their net spend is less over the last ten years though and less since Pep took over. Don't the 115 financial charges they face fall under Pep's tenure? Not sure where this idea City are white than white is coming from, when they are facing charges no other club is facing.

We had a loanee from Man City some years ago but DC hardly played him. Maine Road was a very large pitch and I reffed there once.Much preferred the Baseball Ground where I could keep up with play!!!

John Ward signed Alex Henshall on loan from them, but didn't really do much when he appeared for us. He's 29 now and playing for Melksham Town.

First problem we had was the fact it had printed along the side of the coach " West country branch of the Manchester United supporters club " With a lovely United badge to boot. Second problem the driver only knew his way to Old Trafford. And third problem the coach was pelted with bricks and bottles as we left Maine Road.

Thought liukako had a great game in the city defence. Crucial goal line clearances.

Yep ok , same division and still at the Mem 😂 But it’s the hope that dreams can come true that keeps us all going! 😉 Don't know if it’s been mentioned elsewhere on here but luck etc. played a part in Sheik Mansour and his Abu Dhabi lot rolling up at Manchester City. They had been looking around for a decent club with potential to buy. They narrowed it down to Everton and City and City won because the Commonwealth Games had just been held and City were going to take on the brand new City of Manchester Stadium whereas Everton’s Goodson Park was a bit ramshackle with little ground around it to develop. City had plenty of ground to develop. The rest is history. The PL could have been very different. UTG!

Wishing for an Inter win but it’ll be Man City. Cue having to suffer the media gushing over an ‘historic’ achievement the next few weeks that only took over a Billion Pounds to achieve🚮🥱 Their net spend is less than Man United's over the last ten years. No doubting they over spent early on, but they had a lot of catching up to do. Over the last few years, they have been a well run club, selling players at the right time and reinvesting the money. How much did Chelsea spend during one year and he did they do? I'm glad they won, will shut up a lot of the jealous fans of big clubs, who just say, they will never win the champions league. Especially Man United fans, who moan they buy the league, even though they spend less. Then they also moan they want the Glazers out and want someone who will spend more money. Their net spend would be lower though, as Pep rocked up when their greatest players and the whole spine of the team was already ready made. Kompany, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, David Silva and Aguero were there already. Look how much they're spending now they're having to replace a few. You can't really compare it to Man Utd or Chelsea, completely different scenarios. I find the overhyping of Pep and Man City nauseating. Pep is not in the same league as Clough, Fergie or even Sir Bobby, his peers achievments far outweigh his too imo. He took over a ready made Barcelona team with Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Ronaldinho in it, where Frank Rijkaard was already winning CL's and league titles, he failed at Bayern where the managers before him and after him, Jupp Heynkes and Hansi Flick did what he couldn't do and won the CL so he jumped ship because he couldn't handle the pressure and he took over City when their best ever players and the spine of the team we're already there too. Wow he's won the same amount of CL's in the last 10 years as Roberto Di Matteo and he hasn't even been a manager for 7 years!! Zidane x3, Ancelotti x2, Luis Enrique, Klopp and Tuchel have all won in that time. Plus lets just brush under the carpet the 115 breaches hanging over them...That's not made up. The Brown nosing of Pep and this Man City team is absurd and nauseous.

Especially Man United fans, who moan they buy the league, even though they spend less. Then they also moan they want the Glazers out and want someone who will spend more money. It’s all just one big bore fest. Would love to see if Pep could win the league with 3 or 4 academy players in the side every week. Lewis, Palmer & Foden lets say. He’s done it at 3 clubs with the unlimited resources, interesting to see how he’d do testing himself with the home grown lads in the side as regulars. Indeed. I'd like to see him try and win a CL with Porto and Inter, I mean he couldn't even manage to with Bayern, the managers before and after him managed it. I'd like to see him win a Bundesliga with Dortmund 2 years on the trot breaking the dominance of Bayern, or win a CL and league title with Liverpool. I'd like to see him win a double in his 1st season not finish 3rd. I'd like to see him take over a side who had just finished 10th and win them a title. I'd like to see him win 3 consecutive back to back CLs. I'd like to see him win a CL within 6 months not 6 years. That's what Mourinho, Klopp, Ancelotti, Conte, Zidane and Tuchel have done, then I might give him more credit, but he hasn't had to do any hard graft, winning trophies at Barca who were already winning them under Rijkaard, failing to win a CL with Bayern when the managers before and after him did what he couldn't do so he jumped ship because he couldn't hack it, then taking 6 years to win it with Man City and even then he did everything he could to mess it up by dropping Kyle Walker for no reason whatsoever and only managed to scrape a win because a far inferior Inter side with far less recourses managed to miss 2 absolute sitters. Just like he did against Chelsea by dropping Rodri for no reason. He's nowhere near to going down as the best in history. Absolute nonsense. This brown nosing of Pep is absurd. People are being completely brainwashed.

I suppose when i mention the lack of English players in Man City's team and hark back to the old days i really mean 'home ' grown British players as opposed to English, one fact recently touted in the press was that Manchester United have featured players from their academy in every match day squad for some 4000 plus consecutive games, regardless of your thoughts on Man utd ,i think that's pretty impressive, mind you being a Rovers fan for close on 70 years it don't take much to impress me!
