Cambridge won the tactical battle hands down, and their strategy started well before the game with the complimentary comments about us from their manager. Gas failed to find a solution to Cambridge packing the midfield. Future opponents will be quick to replicate a similar plan. No reason to throw the toys out of the pram as yet, but worrying that we couldn't or wouldn't adapt. JB's post match interview seemed to indicate that he felt players were not following instructions from him and the coaching team. Really!

Think Cambridge have gone top with that win, shows how poor this league is. Perhaps it shows what that works in the premier league with top players doesn’t work that well in league 1. Perhaps it shows that the way Cambridge play will work with the right players v a team in the same division that try and play like Man City.

Really! put quarters shirts on cambridge and it was like watching us under coughlan. Which was also very effective and got us in to the top 6. One things for sure if we stick with our plan A and don’t adapt to different games and mix it up when we clearly need to then there will be no top 6 for us this season.

It was interesting chatting to their fans in the clubhouse after the game.
They couldn’t believe how ‘nice’ and lacking in physicality we were.
One guy told me how different it was to playing Stevenage just a few days before…. Big lumps displaying the dark arts, not nice to watch, but they beat Cambridge up and took the points home.
I’m not saying we need to go down that route, but we definitely need to wisen up to the majority of teams in this league who will try and frustrate us and bully their way through a match.
We are still a very young team and I applaud the way we are trying to play, but if we have any hopes of getting out of this division we will need a balance of skill and wise leadership on the pitch to get us past the likes of Stevenage.
Not sure I’ll be in any rush to drive that way to watch that one!!

I was watching the EFL highlights show last night and there was something I noticed a lot of teams do that we don't.
Shoot.
Lots of goals being scored from players having a pop from outside the box, either going straight in or someone bundling in the follow up. We've got the players to do it but seem to favour getting the ball out wide or trying to walk it in. Time for Joey to tell them to get their shooting boots on.

Yes, this fixation on trying to walk the ball into the net is no good on so many occasions and is rather tedious. In women's football there are a lot more shots on target and the crowd loves it!!

Drives me mad!
I can hear my old man’s voice, if you don’t shoot you don’t bloody score!!
I sometimes think the modern game over complicates what is the aim of the game. Get the ball near the goal and then try and put the round white thing in the net!!

Would you play 3 at the back? We don’t, In my opinion, have a squad with obvious wing backs? We are over loaded with wide players who can change along a front 4, Collins, Sincs, Brown, Thomas, Vale, Evans…. We are set up as a squad to play 4-2-3-1 Although we were poor Saturday, i’m not sure who I would drop out of Taylor and Crama? UTG

UTG Personally I think we are always at our best in a 4-2-3-1 which allows us to get as many of our best attacking options out on the pitch as realistically possible. If Wilson were to come back into the team I would slightly side with Taylor over Crama in a four - Taylor has looked very safe but less ‘flashy’ in his defending and whilst Crama has looked really good he made very big mistakes v Barnsley and Charlton which we were extremely lucky to get away with. Nice to have this is dilemma and strength in depth with Connolly now looking fourth choice.

Mangan suggested that we were supposed to be hitting balls for the full backs to run on to, firstly that seems easier said than done and, secondly, both our full backs seem reluctant to make forward runs.

I read we were supposed to be hitting cross field balls over their full backs - for Collins/Sinclair and Thomas.

I think our plan B to over come the congestion in the middle of the park was to ping balls out wide to Thomas and Collins. The quality of these balls mostly was the problem. So I’d say we set out with plan B, but it just didn’t work. We never got to change it until we were one down.

I can't recall us hitting one which worked, the only one over the top which did work was the chance Collins missed, which was down the centre of the pitch.
