Martin, aka princerupert, started a thread on GasChat on Oct 30th 2017 with:
"Had a very interesting conversation with a close friend of an ex Director. He's convinced that a certain Developer is looking at a takeover with a view to building a number of homes on the Mem site and is still in talks with UWE. I know there's been lots of rumours and BS flying around so I was genuinely interested to see if anyone else had heard anything similar?"

What is this, 20 Questions? Prince Rupert…why post in the first place then given your OP? Seriously. UTG! Calm down mate, clearly it was a question asking if anyone had heard a rumour about the UWE. It was mentioned on twitter (X) earlier. Sorry for the confusion this caused you It's a bit odd you've started another UWE rumour thread after the other one you started in the past led nowhere? If the new owners are genuinely considering the Arena site then it would make sense for them to also consider the UWE, assuming that no further development has taken place on the proposed site in the meantime? The rumours in the past suggested Hani that wouldn't approve funding, if that's true then the new owners might be able to overcome that issue. Although it could be a case of putting out a few rumours just to try and get CI to reduce their demands.

In all likelihood, this is complete BS. However, the one massive benefit of revisiting the UWE project is that Planning Permission was granted. OK, this has now lapsed and a fresh application would need to be submitted meeting the higher standards expected of a project now compared to 2012. But the fact that South Gloucestershire councillors voted 12 to 1 to approve the project and there is an existing relationship between Rovers and South Glos Planners via the Quarters might give a sliver of optimism that this might be a good option.
Wael and family rejected the previous deal and there was a suspicion that UWE engineered this with some of the Board of Governers getting cold feet. So it would seem both parties would have to move to seal a deal.
What has changed?
Rovers - FM looking more unlikely, Greater ambition and need to get a Championship ready venue, Increased financial backing, new ownership structure with greater real estate/development track record, potential frustration with the planning process in Bristol is an impetus, Wael is now the significant majority of the Al Qadi interest, with Hani no longer on the scene.
UWE - (I don't know so much about this) Steve West is still Vice Chancellor and most strategic decisions in a university come from a strong VC, The Board of Governors has changed with no clear indication of interest or conflict of interest in a stadium from their biographies, based on a casual analysis their finances remain robust (costs have significantly increased, but so has income despite the pandemic).
All probably pie in the sky, but maybe, just maybe.

All probably pie in the sky, but maybe, just maybe. It's definitely plausible, whether there is genuinely anything in this is another matter. From a personal point of view, I'd prefer it as it's more local to me and is likely to be built sooner than the FM.
