I suspect the UWE bigwigs might attend the same Bristol corporate events as Rovers board members so a conversation between them could well be struck up over something they had a mutual interest in. UWE: “How’s it going? I hear the fruit market possibility is looking precarious “ BRB: “Not too bad, the FM with multiple interested parties is always going to be a difficult proposition to disentangle” UWE: “What about revisiting the UWE stadium idea, it got very close at one point?” BRB: “Are you still going to be greedy bastards?” UWE: “Well it’s our land so yes” BRB: “Thanks for the chat, see you at the next function “

I said on here that I wouldnt be surprised if the arena doesn't go ahead once the housing has been built and that I wouldnt be surprised if UWE was a better deal than the FM. A thought... are UWE more in need of money than they were previously?

Unfortunately, UWE is a dead duck.
Plans for new student accommodation on existing car parks, the necessity for replacement car parking and the potential relocation of courses from the Glenside campus to Frenchay are well-advanced.
Was worth investigating but three years too late.
SGC planning portal will confirm. ( For those who state "source").

Isn't that from this evening though? So they could've read that on here and then posted?

A thought... are UWE more in need of money than they were previously? They seem to have plenty of money if they are building a new campus to replace the one presently based at Glenside, unless they are now looking for money to fund the build? www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/future-huge-campus-doubt-uni-8804336I've no idea what land they have spare at Fenchay but where is this going to be built, as surely they can't still have unlimited land to develop?? As far as the Areana, something will have to use the hangers unless they are going to suffer a wonky pub type fire or be declared unsafe for other reasons.

Pretty certain if Rover offer enough money they'll soon changed their plans re the accommodation, the Glenside campus move might be an issue if that's earmarked for the same site.

What great news!! Surely it's true? We can have a little 'don't like the location' meltdown again. All those who didn't like UWE because it was too far from the centre, were replaced by all those who didn't like the FM because it was too close to the centre. Now we can start all over again. 👍 Compared to The Mem and the FM. There is actually nothing at all nearby, if fans wanted to go to a pub. But whatever. Don't believe any of it now.

Rovers had planning permission for a new stadium at The Mem with the cost covered by student flats. Given that since then there have been other local schemes to build new students flats and more are planned, why were the Mem plans never revisited?

If we can’t help but f**k up the building of a semi permanent structure, what chance a whole 21st century stadium? Close to zero, but it’s not going stop 400+ pages incoming. Good fun though utg

This rumour is like a dog chasing his tail! Someone puts some nonsense about the UWE on here, everyone 'bites', someone on Twitter thinks the UWE is back on as they've read this thread, people on here see the Twitter post and assume this thread must therefore be true as someone on Twitter has said the same thing.........rinse & repeat and we'll be at 200 pages before you know it!

My guess is that the deal we had with Opal (who pulled out during the 2007/08 credit crunch and then went into administration a few years later) was - for once - very good for the club and not so good from their side...otherwise given how much student accommodation has been built in Bristol since, I can't imagine why the idea didn't attract any other student accommodation providers once the first ones pulled out...

Fake News ...
The Mem is being redeveloped.
First the South stand and the South West stand next to it will be finished and look pretty good.
The Thatchers end will be a two tier seated stand and the gaps- around the East stand will also be covered and seated.
West stand will be revamped and refreshed.
All this over the next five years max !!
