I was shocked when I heard that Joey was sacked, I have been a regular supporter since 1963 . I think his team, that he recruited is the best in depth and quality in that time. The team spirit and fighting spirit has been first class. We have new owner but you must know your history before you can plan the future. I am not confident the replacement will measure up well and we will put the club back years..

I totally agree, there’s a lot more to this sacking than ‘ form ‘ we will probably never know ! I think when a full compliment of players were back in action, plus obvious need for a striker Things would have improved, I’m hugely disappointed that all joe’s hard work and sacrifice Hasn’t come to fruition ! Good luck to AM tomorrow ! Utg 💙

I think the combination of injuries and and a really hard fixture list should have been taken into consideration. The only teams we played below us are Cambridge A ( top at time ) and Wigan H ( false position).
A fairer target would be to judge him by the end of November bearing in mind its mostly bottom half teams we play. For sure sack him if the target isn't meet.
If we won our game in hand we would be mid table. Therefore : I think he's been very unlucky. Well done Joey you got us promotion and a comfortable position.
Finally looking at this year's squad. There are 5 loans and 3/4 over 33 years. We spent fees on one or two players. I personally don't see this so called massive investment in our squad. Not to the extent when we would spend nearly a million a season 20 years ago. One year we spent 350 k Evans 250 S.Jones Andy Thompson and Martin Cameron. That's not including Roberts Cureton Hayles Latvian Ellington Zamora Lambert etc.

Not sure why people are surprised he was sacked , he’s spent quite a lot of money ( transfer fees / wages) and results just haven’t been good enough. If you talk the talk you gotta walk walk . Wish him luck elsewhere but not sure he’ll get a gig above league 2 and would he want that ?

Meh.
Average manager who did an average (at best) job with a ridiculously good budget.
That's without even factoring in the public outbursts and multiple court cases.
Onwards and upwards.

No one knows how big our playing budget is it's just snapshot opinions. All I know 20 years ago we regularly spent between £500k- 1 million every season for many years.
In the last 2 years we paid fees for Taylor Connolly Rossiter maybe £500 - 600k. By next summer 5 will go back on loan : 3-4 will retire leaving us with about 4-5 on contracts. I don't see that a massive massive budget. A competitive budget but nothing it's been made out.

This season Wilson, Woods, Hunt, Martin and Friend wouldn't have come cheap (wage wise - even if for 6 months to a year) The loan players usually have some percentage of wage contribution. The players from L2 who have since had wage increases. Just because we have loans or players out of contract next summer doesn't mean they don't contribute to the budget.

Compare that to the squad 23 years ago. Foster Thomson tilson cureton Roberts astafjevs ellington hillier meaker frankie Bennett Mark Walters . That squad would of costs over £2 million and goodness knows the wages for hillier from Arsenal or Mark Walters . I was talking to some ex players and the fees / wages were one of the best in division one.

75 Div1 league games, PPG 1.04 I’m just going to post this from now on 👍 Diabolical record as a manager in league one for us and a human being. Delighted he’s left and we can move on.

O ye we did that when Joey got the club promoted back into Division 1.

Like it or don’t he wasn’t good enough and that’s why he’s been sacked. Support the club….not the manager

Yep, thank you for being so sh**e at your job Joey that we no longer have to deal with the absolute w**ker you are representing us. The OP was to thank Joe Barton for his efforts while with Rovers, every one on here knows your extreme hateful opinion of JB so why choose this thread to spill out more of your unpleasant ramblings? You condemn JB for the person he is but it seems to me that in a personality contest between you and him ,you would come a very distant second ! Thanks for your efforts JB and good luck in the future.
